Kaine Jack

In Absentia

2015-03-04

Jack and Kaine take a break to work out after dinner.

Location

<XS> Gymnasium - B1

For a mutant school, this is a pretty standard gym, even if its sturdy construction to handle mutant powers is less standard. Still, it is designed along normal lines; setup for a basketball court, standard equipment -- punching bags, rubber mats, standard assortment of balls, weight training equipment, the usual fare. It is large, and as well-appointed as the rest of Xavier's tends to be.

Exam week has many students spending their nights and much of their free time studying. And while Jack has been one of those studying, he's decided he needs a little break too. So after dinner, the invisible teen's made his way down to the gym. At the moment he's at one of the punching bags. Of course he looks like just a pair of sneakers and a pair of workout shorts floating by a punching bag that's being hit by something invisible. He's humming a song though, something from Queen someone had him listen to as a joke and it got stuck in his head.

Kaine apparently decided on hitting the gym after dinner instead of watching a movie. He's wearing a loose fitting black tank and a pair of gray jogging pants. He's just moved off the weight bench, and anybody paying attention would note his max is up near 175 now. His next place is the punching bags, where he noticed Jack, well, his clothes. "Hey Jack." he greets lightly, wiping the sweat from his brow. "How's it going?" he asks lightly, turning his body sideways in relation to his chosen bag before delivering a few light jabs.

Jack glances over when he hears his name, having been focusing on the task in front of him. "Hey Kaine," he replies, pausing to hit the bag a few more times. He gives it a harder punch before he speaks again. "It's going alright. I think I'm doing well enogh on my exams. Not bombing 'em completely anyway," he says with a sigh. "Things going okay for you?"

"Suppose so. It'll be what it'll be." Kaine replies, stepping in with his right foot to deliver a left hook on the bag. "Trying to talk Hailey into hanging out in New York sometime. Feel like the reason she's such an ass is because she either doesn't really have any, or went a good while without friends. Good friends anyway. Likely a bunch of woe is me cutters." He hits the bag a few more times before straightening up. "Don't like the idea of people not having good friends."

"I dunno. Lia's her roommate and says she's never been all that nice," Jack replies. "But good luck if you can get her to be less...irritable," he says. "Not have friends can make a person...testy though," he agrees, punching the bag with a bit more force than before and making it sway a little more. Standing up straighter, he lets out a breath and uses his TK to grab his towel from where he left it.

"Hopefully. Think there might be a chance." Kaine reaches up to run his fingers through his slightly damp hair. "Besides, like to start going out with groups into New York once things get less crazy around here."

The towel floats in the air as Jack wipes some sweat off himself. "I wouldn't mind going out there with more people. Hopefully more people will want to go when it gets warmer." "Probably the only thing stopping them now." Kaine twists his upper body left and then right, then stretching until his back gives an audible crack. "I know it's going to stop me going a lot of places when it gets hot. If it doesn't have air conditioning, and it isn't water? Not going be very comfortable."

Jack grabs his shirt the same way he did his towel, slinging it over his shoulder rather than putting it on. "The cold and the tests," he shrugs. "Lots of places wouldn't let me in anyway either so unless we want to hang out at Evolve or a couple other places, I'll be ending up sticking around here," he says.

"Likely the same amount that'd let me in." Kaine purses his lips slightly in thought. "Feel like gills aren't a great reason to not take somebody's money."

Jack sighs a little, his expression turning into an unseen frown. "People suck," he says. "I got chased out of most of the shelters I tried to stay out just for being a mutant. Heard plenty of others have stories like that too."

"That they do. And the more stories I hear? The less I think we're going to get along with them." Kaine frowns a bit as well, giving a slight grunt. "Hopefully I'm wrong."

"Definitely hoping you're wrong," Jack replies, stretching. "Hopefully there are some good stories out there too and we just haven't heard 'em yet," he adds.

"For some reason I doubt it." Kaine reaches up to secure his hair in a bun. "But hopefully we end up straightening things out. Probably won't be until we're fifty or sixty, but things gotta get better."

Shrugging once more, Jack lets out a thoughtful noise. "I wonder if there's anyone around I could borrow a set of hair clippers from," he remarks, changing to a less depressing subject.

"No idea." Kaine replies with a slight shrug. "Should be able to pick up a set not far from here."

Jack laughs a little. "Might have a problem with that. They're expensive," he remarks. "I want to cut my hair soon...getting longer than I like it. Could use scissors but it is not easy," he shakes his head even if that's not seen. "So what've you got planned for tonight?"

"Not very, cheap set works just as well as an expensive set." Kaine points out. "And I'll probably stay up till two or three and catch another movie, then probably sleep in a bit and catch a shower after everyone else grabs one."

"Really? Huh, never actually looked for one to buy," Jack admits. "I used to just...sneak into barber shops after hours and use their stuff when I needed to," he says, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. "Sleep in? Don't you have any tests tomorrow?"

"Yeah. Just don't have to get up to catch a shower while it's still warm. Ten or so extra minutes are better than none." Kaine reaches up to rub the back of his neck.

"That's true," Jack reasons. "I try to get my shower in before bed so I don't have to scramble for one in the mornings," he says. "Scared the hell out of someone a month ago when I went in there first thing in the morning," he chuckles.

"Like to catch one before I change for bed, and before I head out in the mornings." Kaine explains. "Not exactly a morning person though. Not a thing to get me up, but I'm not fully aware of what's happening for a little while."

"I'm used to getting up early," Jack says. "One of those rare, morning people everyone says doesn't exist," he says with a laugh.

"Yeah, well it was nice to hear from you. Gonna wash up and head back up." Kaine says with a slight nod. "Take care, yeah?"
