Understated opulence claims this spacious and well-kept townhome, the decor throughout the whole of it of the highest quality and carefully chosen. The front door opens onto the entrance hall, a closet close at hand to receive coats and shoes -- the pale hardwood floors gleam underfoot, unsullied by tracked-in mess from outside. The living room beyond the entrance is all dark woods and pale earth tones, comfortable couches and armchairs and a thick soft rug laid down beneath. Two large and painstakingly aquascaped aquariums flank the entrance to the dining room, with several brightly coloured species of fish within. Most of the rest of the wall space, notably, is taken up with shelves -- shelves crammed with books of every subject and genre. A study branching off of the main hall is cozy, small, done in pale blues and lined with books as well around the large computer desk and smaller futon, though these rarer books are cased behind glass. Another securely locked door leads to the basement, and another to the full bathroom downstairs. The kitchen connects to the living room; in contrast, it is sleek and modern and well-appointed, stocked by someone who takes their cooking seriously. And takes their alcohol equally seriously -- to one side of the kitchen there is a fully-stocked bar. The back door to the kitchen looks out on a small well-kept garden. The ringing of the doorbell in the early evening is answered by a tired-eyed Gaétan, giving the colourful visitor on the doorstep a frown but letting him in regardless. Jax just nods his thanks, slipping his shoes off at the door and heading straight to the kitchen to unpack the containers of food he's brought with him. He doesn't actually /leave/ the kitchen until dinner is prepped and warming on the stove, the table set, tea brewed in a pot on the counter, slipping over to the living room doorway to lean against it for a moment. Matt has been napping in his favorite armchair, a variegated green knit blanket wrapped around him and an ancient copy of /Alice in Wonderland/ lying in his lap. His winter-pale complexion looks even worse than when Jax had seen him last, vaguely echoing the days of his illness. He's awake now, blinking puffy red eyes clear and looking up at Jax. When he rises he takes the book with him, clutched to his chest like a security blanket, though the actual blanket he lets slide to the floor. He doesn't hug his visitor, just walks up to him and drops his head to the other man's shoulder, letting out a long, shaky breath. Gaétan is sprawled on the floor in front of the crackling fire, laptop out in front of him. He glances up when Jax reappears in the doorway, but soon looks back at the laptop screen. Desi is lying on the couch, legs draped over one arm and head pillowed against Lucien's lap where /he/ is buried in email, a Nook propped up against her thighs. She glances up at Lucien, glances back at her book, shifts, quietly, to let her brother stand. /He's/ looking tired, too pale, eyes shadowed, a drag to his step as he stands and slips past Jax and Matt -- hand trailing lightly against each of their shoulders in passing. He goes to get two plates of food -- on his way back out, stopping to press a soft kiss to Jax's temple before he delivers them to Desi and Gaétan. Takes his seat again. Jax's arms lift, squeezing tightly around Matt. Curling around his back, one hand lifting to wrap fingers against the back of the other man's neck, curling into his hair. For a long time, just -- holding. Tight. |
