"Alright, you're officially my favorite shark."

Location

<NYC> Tompkins Square Park - East Village

Small but popular, this tree-lined park is a perfect centerpiece to the eclectic neighborhood it resides in. Home to a number of playgrounds and courts from handball to basketball, it also houses a dog park and chess tables, providing excellent space for people watching -- especially during its frequent and often eccentric festivals, from Wigstock to its yearly Allen Ginsberg tribute Howl festival.

It's been a cool wet day and now it's a cool damp evening. There's a break in the rain currently, at least, though the park is grey and muddy and the lingering wet and chill means it isn't hugely populated. There's a smallish knot of people by one (not actually active) fountain, loitering within earshot of the lively violin strains of Wieniawski's Scherzo tarantelle. Even if they are content to /listen/ to the music most of the small group of lingerers aren't, actually, getting all too /close/ to the tiny busker at the moment, the very small blue sharkboy dressed in black corduroys and dark red sweater, perched with his violin on the edge of the fountain, not all that many bills currently in his open violin case. Shane doesn't seem all that concerned, at any rate, bow dancing skillfully over the strings.

Rasa is hanging out as well, half sitting on the edge of the fountain, hir toe tapping in rhythm of Shane's tarantelle. Hir head bops a little, the veil around hir head swaying with the movement. The edges of hir hijab rest on the shoulders of a long sleeved, purple top, black gloves covering hir hands. Ze is wearing jeans and rainbow colored chucks. Ze eyes the crowd a little, mostly looking for anyone who looks less like they are appreciating the music and more like they have a bone to pick with the violinist.

Wearing one of her thinner coats, Anette has taken an evening stroll, out casually enjoying the (relatively) warmer weather. Though she had no intention of making her way towards the fountain, she picked up on the violin playing from a distance. Pausing a moment to appreciate the sound, she eventually veers her path towards it, easily picking out the small group and joining them. At the sight of the very blue Shane, she raises a curious brow but says nothing, instead merely listening to the music, appreciating the music for what it is. Eventually, she reaches into her coat pocket with a gloved hand and pulls out a bunched up five dollar bill before dropping it into the case. It's now that she realizes Rasa's presence, mid money drop. She freezes, yellow eyes widening a bit and less than pleasant looking. But she merely drops the money in and takes a step back, turning back to Shane to continue to watch him play.

Shane's smile is quick and warm (and veeery sharptoothed -- it makes one couple lingering in his crowd hurry away, and another man chuck a rock into his case instead of any coins) at the drop of money, head bobbing in a small nod to Anette. Shane's nose wrinkles up at the rock, but he says nothing, smile still lingering on his face. "Don't suppose you got any requests?"

Rasa rolls blue eyes at the rock thrown into the case, watching that figure leave. Ze doesn't notice Anette at first, but looks over just in time to catch her glare. Hir eyes turn black when ze makes eye contact with the owl woman and ze tenses. Ze shakes hir head and remains where ze is. "I love the tarantellas, but I am not good at the the names and composers. Do you know any others?" Ze pauses and considers, "Or, you know, what your kind audience wants. I'm just a bum enjoying the music."

For now, Anette ignores Rasa, focusing on Shane's playing, a brief frown appearing at the sight of the rock but she's on her best behavior. "Unless you can crank out Metallica on that thing, I've got nothing," she says with a slight grin at the mention of suggestions. "So, you must be the other shark then."

"I think what my kind audience wants," Shane sweeps his bow out towards the people beyond, "is for me to burst into flames or something, but that's more my Pa's shtick than mine." His nose twitches, brows lifting as his smile twists juuust a little crookedly to Anette. "Yeeep. I'm the other one. B's meaner monsterier brother." He is teetering on the rim of the fountain, violin still tucked beneath his chin, bow swinging at his side. He lifts it again after a moment of consideration, though, setting his bow back to his strings -- with a little more /vigor/, this time, harsher, more staccato. No classical, this time, instead a quite easily identifiable technical rendition of Metallica's "Master of Puppets". Unplugged.

Rasa snickers under hir breath, head shaking slightly. "Yeaaah, you can play anything. You're showing off now." Ze rubs hir fingers against the concrete of the fountain before ze gets to hir feet. Hir head bobs along with the music now, keeping a wary eye on Anette.

Anette can't help but grin when the recognizable notes hit the air, nodding her head to the pseudo-metal. "Alright, you're officially my favorite shark," she says. "Ok, ok. So you can play some oldschool Metallica. If you can manage the entirety of Bohemian Rhapsody, then I'll be impressed." As Rasa rises, the grin falls ever so slightly and Anette turns her head to watch her, not moving or speaking up herself, just watching the ther one until she picks a spot to stand, before she turns back to watch Shane.

The change in music does, at least, earn Shane a couple more dollars tossed his way. He dips his head to the women who throw them in, staying perched where he is on the rim of the fountain. His gills flutter in a brief silent laugh. "You have bad taste in sharks," he says over the music, "but you paid me so I won't grudge you it. And I can't play /anything/ or school would be a shit-ton easier. Are you two going to fight? Because with all this glaring -- I mean." He pauses, frowning briefly through the next couple measures. "Just give me a heads up so I can pick appropriate theme music."

"No, No." Rasa raises hir hands in a small surrender, "I have no intention of fighting. I'm just... being careful." Ze gives a little shrug and steps back a little. "I have no animosity toward Anette. I'm okay. Just here to listening to the music. However, if this causes a problem, I can be on my way and see you at home." Ze glances back to Shane. "I never said you could play everything /well/. That could be what school is for."

"Oh trust me, I have very good taste in sharks," Anette says grimly, glancing towards Rasa and letting hir answer first. "We have a bit of a past...and future. I have no intention of starting a fight either. Not here anyway." She looks over to Shane and offers a thin smile, only a tad forced. "Just listening to the music as well."

Shane lowers his bow at the end of a verse -- not /actually/ quite the end of the long song, though sans actual words or the rest of the instruments its unlikely most of his audience will care much anyway. "Yeah, I've heard the, uh, story. B's twin, remember?" His grin is sharp and bright. "Anyway, I don't know what school's for. Killing time. And money."

"We don't have a future, no matter what you think." Rasa replies, shaking hir head again. "What happened in that dream? It's not going to happen. I don't know how much clearer I can be about that." Ze exhales moodily, looking over at Shane. "You don't have to say that to make me feel better. I'm sure there's stuff about school that you're enjoying. B sure is. Enjoying hir school. And you're going to a great school too - one that is just kind of perfect for you and your music."

"Well, we had /something/. And whether or not that you think that future will happen doesn't mean I trust a damn word you say. Don't know how much clearer I can be," Anette says, literally turning her back to Rasa as much as she can while still facing Shane. "Right. I guess you would know about me and B. Surprised you're so easy about it, figured you'd want me dead, too." She takes a deep breath, running a gloved hand over her hair, trying to redirect the conversation into something not quite as dark. "What school are you going to?"

Shane's brows just lift. There's a small flutter of his gills as he looks over at Rasa, but he's quiet as he lowers his instrument and hops down off the fountain. He crouches to scoop the meagre handful of bills and coins out of his case and tuck his violin away. "You ever lay a hand on my sister, we gonna have issues, but I could give two fucks about some delusional motherfucker screeching about dreams. I run a freak cafe and she's a transgendered shark who owns her own successful robotics company, we get death threats weekly from people way the hell scarier than you." His tone is bland, his shrug kind of bored. "I go to Juilliard. What do you do? In the present, I mean."

"Yeah, well, I opted out of five years of torture that brought me to that point, but that's more of a personal benefit rather than anything to do with you." Rasa rolls hir eyes and steps back. "Bah. Do you want to get out of here and get something to eat? I'm kind of starving." This is focused on Shane.

"Last I checked, B and I had made...well, I wouldn't say friends but we play nice now," Anette says, her teeth gritted as she calms herself, avoidng any outbursts. "Though I don't see what's so delusional about wanting nothing to do with the people who ruined your future. I don't take betrayal lightly." As Shane lists off their resumes, Anette can't help but raise a brow, a faint grin present. "I don't do much. Nothing as impressive as owning a business or going to Juilliard." To Rasa's explanation, she merely glances over, lips pressed tightly together. "Well then, I guess in five years we'll see if that works. And don't let me keep you. Like I said, I just wanted to enjoy the music."

"Yeah. Guess we'll see." Shane snaps his violin case closed, straightening up with it in one hand. "Don't worry, though." Now he sounds downright chipper. "I'm sure there'll be plenty of torture ahead. One way or another. C'mon. Let's eat."
