Marrow, Nicoleta and Toma

In Absentia

2013-12-11

The Wonder Lupei twins and Marrow meet whilst buying smokes. No one gets injured! Except Toma.

Location

<NYC> Clinton

Despite its rough and tumble reputation of old, Clinton has come far from the illegal gambling and shakedowns of Prohibition, and the gang warfare of West Side Story. Clinton has now become the industrial supply center for midtown Manhattan, with hospitals and the light industrial and commercial businesses required to support so many thousands of people. The neighborhood has become quite expensive, but many actors still cram together in small apartments due to its proximity to Broadway.

Despite the cold the Morlocks still need to venture above ground, especially when they're low on essential supplies after the strict rationing of the quarantine. And thus Marrow is out and about without her bone-platemail for a change. She's even standing in line of all things, in a short queue for a magazine stand, waiting to buy her favorite things in the world (after violence that is). Sweet sweet cigarettes.

The Wonder Twins, Toma and Nicoleta Lupei, stroll down Clinton, chatting in their native tongue of Romanian. Nicoleta stops, spotting the cigarette vendor, before pulling her twin into line, the two behind Marrow. Toma protests, still in Romanian. <Wait, why are we stopping? Do you really need cigarettes? Don't you have two packs left?>. Nicoleta scoffs, turning to her better half, before angrily objecting to his cries. <There's no such thing as too many cigarettes. Everyone in this line understands that, otherwise they wouldn't be in this line.>. Nicoleta turns to Marrow, speaking in Romanian still. <Amirite?>.

Marrow turns, rolling her shoulders and adopting a scowl. "Da fuck you want?" she snaps, straightening to her full height in an attempt to loom. "Is that some what'cha call it... Japanese. You've got the poncy fuckin' outfits for it.."

"Romanian, actually.". Toma clarifies, backing up from the angry Morlock. Ventin, however, isn't easily intimidated, and smiles cheerfully, before flashing a look at scorn at Toma. "Well, I was trying to tell my twin here that there isn't such thing as too many cigarettes. He doesn't smoke, which is lame, and is complaining that I already have too many packs. I'm trying to tell him that cigarette are pretty important and everyone needs as many packs as they can get, right?".

The cranky Morlock blinks slowly. "You high?" Marrow wonders, attention flicking between the two twins. "And it depends, you don't want so many packs that they get in the way. Not with all the assholes roaming the city. 'less you feel like feeding the last of the fuckin' zombies. But you gotta have enough for yourself, for company and some stuff incase you score anything to have with it."

"No, she's much more peaceful when she's high.". Toma clarifies again, before getting elbowed in the ribs by his sister. Nicoleta then responds. "I only have two packs so far. I'm basically dry. Need more.". Toma turns to Nicoleta, groaning. "You're going to get lung cancer.". Nicoleta quickly quips back, twin argument happening. "I am not going to get lung cancer. Lung cancer's like, super rare or something.".

"Well, depends how long you live don't it?" Marrow points out. "You get old and you get sick, but hey everyone has to die from somethin' right?" She shrugs. "'less you're cheating an shit. Gotta be a few mutants who'll live forever."

"Fuck, I wish I could cheat at that. Live forever, it'd be great.". Nicoleta laughs, as the line advances. Toma shakes his head, sighing. "Living forever sounds sad. Friends dying, family dying, you'll outlive everyone. Who wants to do that?". Nicoleta growls at her twin, /almost/ smacking him. "Stop being such a downer, Toma. Fuck.".

"Outlive everyone? Fuck that sounds god damn hilarious," Marrow proclaims with a grin. "Still yah gotta be practical. You start livin' forever and some fucker will turn up and try stick you in a lab. Heard enough mutants bitchin' about being in a lab to know it ain't any fun." She glances between the twins, shuffling backwards to keep her place in line. "You gotta name?"

"A name costs one in turn.". Nicoleta grins, before taking a breath. "Nicoleta. That's all you need. He's Toma.". Nicoleta grins, as Toma gets uneasy about the lab comment. "Yeah, uh, I don't really want to go into any labs, thanks.". Nicoleta laughs, and turns back to Marrow, grinning again. "Your turn.".

Marrow shrugs. "Shouldn't you claim you're a count or somethin'?" she asks dryly. "Like off Sesame street." She pauses and spits of globule of something into the gutter. "Names Marrow." The Morlock takes another step back, now to the head of the queue, and waves at the guy behind the counter. He mutters something and begins reaching for a few packets of cigarettes. Evidently Marrow is a regular here.

"Like what?". Toma says, in turn to Sesame Street. "What's that?". Nicoleta rolls her eyes, elbowing her brother in the ribs again, such love. "It's a show for toddlers. The Count is this vampire guy who is obsessed with numbers or something.". Toma is still confused, so Nicoleta changes back to Marrow. "Nice to meet you or something, Marrow.". After Marrow gets her cigarettes, Nicoleta heads up. She quickly specifies her kind, pulls out cash, and grabs the packs. "This kind is the best kind.".

Marrow chuckles as she shoves her smokes into various pockets in her battered black leather jacket. "After going through all that zombie shit /any kind/ is the best kind. You two come here afterwards? Or had the bad luck to move to the big city before?"

"Been here a year. Spent the apocalypse looting and slaughtering. Good times.". Nicoleta grins, pulling out one of her new cigarettes and lighting it, placing it in her mouth. Toma just seems uneasy about all of this. "She did most of the killing, actually. I just carried a hatchet.". Nicoleta laughs, turning back to Marrow. "Place is shit, but better than home. More violence, less fighting, IMO.". Toma tilts his head at Nicoleta. "I'm pretty sure that's contradictory.". Nicoleta barks back quickly. "No it's not.".

"The fighting is the /fun/ part. What's the point in violence if you haven't earnt it?" Marrow asks philosophically, ambling a little way down the street so she can lean against the wall. "An axe is a good choice. Hard to break, easy to use and not as obvious as a sword. You an axe girl too?" She fixes Nicoleta with an appraising up and down stare. "You don't look like you're got the arms for anything bigger."

"Well, yeah, they were out of chainsaws at the hardware store, all the nuts bought them up. Also, I used a fire axe, not a tiny hatchet. He's the one who uses the baby stuff.". Nicoleta clarifies, taking a drag of the cigarette. Toma pouts, looking over to his sister, but spaicing so she doesn't hit him again. "Atleast I'm a better shot with firearms.". Toma states, Nicoleta scoffing. "But you take five minutes to take a shot. You'd be killed by anything faster than a walker.".

"Movies lie. Chainsaws aren't worth shit for people," Marrow says with the certainty of someone who has checked. "A fire axe? I guess it's a classic for zombies. Personally I much prefer a good knife, needs a little force to break the skull but you can keep up a decent pace." She digs into her own pocket and pulls out a cigarette of her own. "Anyway you kids have fun. Places to go an' shit. You know how it goes."

"Damn, never thought Evil Dead would lie to me.". Nicoleta tilts her head down, obviously saddened by this information, but then tilts it up, waving towards Marrow. "See ya.". Ventin takes a drag, as Toma also waves. "Goodbye, Marrow!". Nicoleta turns to Toma, a saddened look in her face. "Damn, next thing I know it'll be impossible for a group of teenagers to stop military attacks. Fuck.".
