Peace and Quiet in the Library

Location

<XS> Library

Xavier's librarian might hope the library is a quiet place to sit and study, but with a school full of teenagers that is not always the case. Nevertheless, it is certainly a treasure trove of knowledge, well-stocked with a wealth of books on its high shelves. Its reference section is vast, though its fiction is as well (much to the delight of many of its students.) The wide octagonal tables and smaller armchairs are often crowded with students, though the whispered conversations that often take place leave some doubt as to how much work is getting done at any given hour.

Right now inside the library, it is mostly quiet at the moment, with a few students littered around, though this could change at any second. Embracing the quiet as she types away at a laptop is Ghost, who is typing quite furiously. The purple teenager is barefoot, dressed in a shirt and jacket, wearing a pair of jeans..and a fedora. The fedora has a little note saying PRESS tucked tightly inside, like those of the old fashioned journalist hats. To her side on the table is a bagel, which is half eaten, as Ghost has both her hands focused on the laptop.

In one of his longer breaks between classes, Dorian has made his way into the sizable library in search of a short list of books scribbled onto a sheet of notebook paper. Dressed in a loose blue tank top with a logo faded beyond recognition on the front and decidedly threadbare looking jeans, Dorian looks more like he rolled in off of a beach somewhere. The outfit provides a clear view of his physical mutations; the dark thick fur on his back fades to a finer coating of tawny fuzz on his chest, interrupted occasionally with the thin lines of surgical scars, just visible above the neckline of his shirt. His tapered, dark fured tail hangs from beneath the hem of the shirt, occasionally twitching or swaying in agitation, but otherwise largely motionless. New to the school, Dorian looks decidedly lost as he wanders between the high shelves, muttering quietly to himself as he references the paper, looking up at the signs directing between the different genres and sections of books. At this point - he has likely wandered past Ghost's position at least 3 times in an attempt to find his way.

On this chilly, rainy Wednesday (a perfect WINDSday, if you're into that sort of labeling of a blustery day), Rasa is taking refuge in the library as well. With all of hir classes done for the term, ze is quite content to wander in and look around for some pleasant break reading. With no classes tomorrow and no where to go for the very abrupt holiday, ze is content with a little fiction. Ze is wearing the baggiest of gray sweat pants, a hole cut in the back side to provide some room for hir tail. Hir top is positively swathed in an enormous navy blue sweatshirt, one that could probably fit the largest member of the Xavier's team, with a little slip of a shirt, robin's egg in color, peeking out from the bottom. Ze has only slippers on hir feet, bulky socks sticking out the top. Hir face, hands and tail are all a peachy orange shade, reminiscent of someone attempting to describe a 'human' shade for a crayon instead of something that actually resembles flesh tones. Hir hair also looks a touch 'drawn on,' a mop of overly curly black hair creating a cloud around hir head.

As ze enters, ze pauses at the desk to peek around for Mallory, pulling away when ze is sure she must be around doing something else at the moment. Then, ze wanders the room quietly, not exactly racing off to find a book, but enjoying the quiet ambiance of a school finally at peace. That - or the pacing Dorian is doing is very distracting. Ze studies him for a moment then wanders over, offering, quietly, "Can I help you find something?"

Also distracted by Dorian's continual pacing past her, Ghost turns around, slightly annoyed by the interruption, her yellow eyes glaring at Dorian. "You lost or something? I'm trying to work here, if you can't tell, and your constant pacing is bugging me.". She grabs her bagel, taking a bite, before continuing, still with bits of food in her mouth. She then points her finger towards one of the aisles. "I believe fantasy is that way.". She then notices Rasa, taking a glance at her, before looking back at her laptop.

Dorian perks up visibly when Rasa approaches and offers help, nodding emphatically with a sheepish smile. He ruffles his hair with a free hand, glancing between the other student and the list of books before answering, in a hushed but babbling voice, "I... yeah. I was trying to find the... um, well, newer books from the Redwall series, because they really only had the old old stuff in the common area and some of them were kinda ratty and hard to make the words out on, so I was hoping that there were more here. Maybe, but I've never actually /been/ in a library, and it's kinda big and I keep getting turned around, and, well, yeah." And then Ghost snaps at him. The young man flinches, taking a step back away from the girl with the laptop, his shoulders slouching, small rounded ears flattening into the dark curls of his hair. "S...so..." he starts to apologize, instead catching himself and signing the word instead, "I didn't mean to be a bother, or interrupt, or bug you." He glances in the direction indicated, still hunched defensively as though afraid he'd be hit.

Rasa listens quietly as Dorian explains what he is looking for, but hir coloration darkens as bronze begins to filter in from hir hair line, appearing somewhat like a blush. Curls of black start stretching out toward the center of hir face, but a deep breath pushes them back. "Yeah, they're right..." Ze pauses abruptly, turning to narrow hir eyes at Ghost, head tilting in confused annoyance. Ze turns once more to Dorian and smiles a little more, though it definitely looks forced. "Ehhh... Don't listen to her. The library is free space. If she needs to work somewhere quiet, she could use the study or her own room." There's a small, pointed glance in Ghost's direction, as ze raises a hand to gesture. "The books are up that way. They are pretty easy to find since there are so many of them."

"Well, excuse me, but the news doesn't write itself.". Ghost snarks back over to Rasa, before turning to Dorian. "Sorry, didn't mean to be so harsh on you, you just, passed me like three times and it was getting irritating.". She pauses, taking another bite of bagel, before speaking. "I've never actually read that series but my brother was a fan last time I saw him, so. More into noir myself.". Ghost then finishes her bagel, before typing away at her laptop. "Oh, and by the way, it /is/ free space, which is why I'm here. I never told him to leave, just giving him a hard time.". She smiles, before looking back to the screen.

After being directed towards the books twice, Dorian retreats another step in the direction indicated, nodding slowly, "Th...thank you. Sorry to be a bother, again, I really wasn't trying to. I just, well, I just got here, and it's all kinda new and daunting and --" he clamps his mouth shut, exhaling in an extremely long breath. One arm crosses his body to ruffle at the fur on his shoulder, making the thick fur stick up in odd directions - he still flinches away faintly from being addressed sharply. "I... apologize. I babble. And I need to learn to stop it, because I know it's annoying, but, yeah," the fuzzy student manages to keep it to one run on stentence this time, at least. "I can go. I don't want to be a pest, and since I am actually free to go if I'm annoying people, I prefer to leave. Not being able to leave is not good. Just makes things worse," he explains, in a somewhat round about way, unconsciously tracing the scars that edge his fingers. Rasa rolls hir eyes at Ghost and shakes hir head. "Like she said, you don't have to leave. I'm going to walk away though, because her petty comments aren't worth my time." Ze smiles and offers Dorian a shrug. "Please forgive my departure. I hope you find your books okay."

Ghost shrugs at Rasa. "Suit yourself.". She then turns to Dorian to reply, spotting the scars on his fingers, before speaking, kind of apologetically. "Look, I was, uh, being a bit of a bitch. You don't need to leave. I'm just having a rough day and need to send this in, you did nothing wrong, it was all me.". She sighs, before going to finish her bagel, before realizing she already had finished her bagel. "Wait, where did my bagel go?"

Dorian nods, but looks a bit confused when Rasa departs, offering an uncertain wave towards the other student. "It's... it's ok. I should go and find the books I was looking for before I forget where I was going again and come back through and annoy you more. Even if I don't mean to," Dorian prattles on, stepping back further in the direction of his goal. "And you at your bagel, I think? I mean, unless you had another one, which is entirely possible," he offers helpfully, though he sounds anxious, as though afraid he'll be blamed. "Thank you, for, um, pointing out where to go," he bobs his head in thanks before turning on the ball of his foot and scampering down the correct aisle this time, apparently anxious to get away.

"Yeah, I think I ate it.". Ghost scratches her head, before looking over to Dorian one last time. "Alright then, cya.". She tips her hat towards his direction as he leaves, before getting back to her laptop, typing away at her work, happy for peace and quiet again. Atleast, until more people show up, that is.
