Liv and Jack

2015-11-30

A roomate and girlfriend in mourning

Location

<XS> Computer Lab

All modernism in contrast to the old-world elegance of most of the mansion, this room has been dragged into the twenty-first century wholeheartedly. Rows of top-of-the-line computers provide internet access to any students who lack their own in their rooms, and sleek tablets give the mansion's artists a place to practice their digital art when the art studio does not suffice. Whether knuckling down to pull an all-nighter on a research paper or simply killing time browsing, students can be found in here at all hours in front of the glows of the screens.

Due to the recent rationing of food, less people are electing to skip meal times. There are, however, exceptions to the rule, one of them being Liv who has decided to use this time to sit in the computer lab. Her attention doesn't appear to be too focused though, merely flipping through one page to the other, trying to focus on the more visual ones though she doesn't seem overly concerned with words. Eventually, she gives up, X'ing out of the website and burying her her face in her hands, elbows resting on the edge of the table. No sniffles or other sounds to suggest she's crying though. More like she's...hiding.

When it comes to hiding, Jack knows how to do it pretty well. He's been in the library and computer lab since he woke up, hiding out and distracting himself with his work. He hasn't even gotten changed, still in the same jeans and hoodie he wore the previous night. He's only left long enough to retrieve his meal, eating quickly and then rushing back to the computer lab. Backpack on, he pauses when he sees Liv. Not sure what to say, he just stands there for a few moments.

Liv takes a deep breath and eventually lifts her face away from her hands. When she notices Jack, she merely looks at him. No words, no facial expression, nothing. Eventually, she offers him a faint smile and a small wave before turning back to her computer. Still, she does reach for the chair beside her and, as she begins attempting to distract herself with the internet again, pulls the chair out in invitation.

Jack's empty hood remains impassive as he meets Liv's gaze but his shoulders droop slightly. He eventually takes the offered seat, glancing at Liv's monitor for a moment before starting to log into his own station. After a few moments, he gets what he wanted loaded up and scowls invisibly. "{Damn...}" he trails off in Spanish, checking his email inbox but finding it devoid of new messages.

Liv smiles faintly as Jack sits down beside her. Funny cat pictures and epic fail videos rotate on her screen, none of them seeming to do any good. As Jack speaks, she can't help but glance over to his screen, frowning slightly. Turning back to her own screen, she quickly brings up her own email and, typing for a few second, sends an email to Jack's account. Should he open it, all that appears is a generic Shutterstock photo of two people hugging, both with morose, almost mournful expressions on their face as they hold each other tightly.

Jack starts opening up some files he has saved after checking his inbox. When the window flashes to indicate a new message though, he brings his inbox back up quickly. There's a pause when he sees the message is from Liv and Jack glances over at her. His hood tilts to the side at the image and he sends and reply back. Another stock photo but of a question mark. As he clicks send, he looks over quizzically at Liv. Liv opens the email and thinks over the question mark, tilting her head. It takes her a few moments of clicking before she leans back again, another email in Jack's inbox. It's the original photo again but hastily edited in a basic paint program. The girl's hair is now green and the boy has a poorly drawn arrow pointing to it with the letter 'U'. Below this is a picture of smiling Sergio, taken at the Halloween dance in his Xavier costume.

The new message has Jack blinking as he looks at the edit. He tenses up when he gets to the picture of his roommate, closing the e-mail. He sits there for a moment before standing and moving over to give the green-haired girl a hug.
