<XS> Great Hall

The largest room at Xavier's, the Great Hall is designed to hold all of the mansion's residents and then some. Built for the mansion's bigger functions, it serves as the school's dining halls on ordinary days, and ballroom when needed. On school days, long trestle tables stretch across the hall, high-backed chairs with plush cushions offering seating for the students.

The Great Hall is bright and bustling for the 12:10 lunch block. The trestle tables fill up fast with friends laughing and chattering away boisterously. Voices echo throughout the large room and create the illusion of a much greater crowd than there is.

Sergio finds a table and sets down his tray out in front of him, slinging his backpack to his feet without much care. In his chair, he's allowed to get his food a little bit ahead of the rest of the student body, which he uses to his advantage when scouting out the best place to sit. Under one of the room's windows, he cranes his neck to try and spot his roommate who, of course, he's saved a spot for.

Trying to spot Jack usually isn't easy. Floating clothes are easy to miss in the crowd of other mutants. Eventually a tray of food floating in front of a Nightwing-logo t-shirt and pair of worn jeans can be seen approaching Sergio's location. He'd been hoping to spot his roommate and offers an unseen smile when closer. "Hey, Sergio," he greets, setting his tray down and shrugging his bag off his shoulders. "How's it going?" he asks as he slips into the saved spot.

Sergio smiles broadly, leaning back in his wheelchair, "Good." His hands probe in front of him for a carton of apple juice, which he breaks the seal on, "I mean, I suck at math but I've made my peace with that." He laughs, eyebrows raising expressively, "What's up?"

"Something we've got in common then," Jack laughs. "Going alright other than having to deal with some asshole this morning," he says, shoulders rising and falling with a shrug. "Did better on that quiz last week in chemistry than I thought I would," he adds, popping some food into his mouth. Of course to anyone watching it looks like the food just pops out of existence.

“Listen to /mild mannered/ Jack Raynes calling somebody an /asshole/,” Sergio muses, taking a sip of juice. “Man, I can’t even imagine that life. Earth Science has me like, I don’t know. My science is not tight. My science is loose.” He drums the carton, laughing, “You know, if you ever decide to be a master thief or super spy, you could probably just pop a precious jewel or secret computer USB into your mouth and sneak it out.”

Jack's collar moves a little in that subtle way that only happens when he shakes his head. "What would you expect me to call him if I'm so mild-mannered?" he asks with a hint of amusement. His juice seems to open itself as Jack uses his telekinesis on the foil. "Science is science to me. Most of it is hard to figure out," he chuckles. "Dude...those things probably taste terrible."

“So does this,” Sergio laughs, lifting his fork up with his other hand and picking at his chicken parm. He waggles his eyebrows, “But somebody’s gotta do it.” He takes a bite. “I don’t know. ‘Jerk?’” He brings up his wrist to cover his mouth and nose as he holds back a snort of laughter.

Laughing, Jack eats a bit more before speaking up again. "I dunno. This stuff tastes pretty good compared to dumpster dives," he shrugs again. "I actually did...think that'd be cool though. Being able to sneak something like a USB drive in and out of places. Just put it in a little plastic bag or something first to protect it," he muses aloud. "I'll restrain myself next time so I don't shock you again."

Sergio quiets at the mention of trash picking. He peeks over his tray of food at the empty space that is Jack with something that could be called admiration. "Thank you. I have a sense of-what's the word?" He stuffs his mouth before it occurs to him and too excited to wait until he's done chewing, he brings a hand up to cover his chewing as he speaks through it, "/Propriety/."

Jack hums a little at Sergio's excited reply and then chuckles. "I'll be sure to keep it PG-13 then," he jokes. "Just some annoying guy trying to get me to sneak into the girls' locker rooms for him," Jack rolling his eyes is almost audible. He pokes at his food a few times before taking a bite.

Sergio suppresses a grin, theatrically rolling his eyes, "What an amateur use of your power, c'mon." He tries to cut through his chicken with the side of his fork, but it's too tough. "That lost it's appeal after like, a week." The telepath points towards Jack with his fork, "Now, if he wanted you to break into the office where they keep everyone's permanent records, we could talk." He's joking, of course.

Jack laughs at that, sleeve lifting as he lifts a hand to cover his mouth. "Pretty sure they have that place guarded against invisible students. Or at least watched by telepaths," he says. He pauses mid-sip of juice. "Come to think of it...wouldn't those all be digital these days?" he asks, shrugging again.

“I guess we’ll just have to go with my original USB plan, then,” Sergio furrows his brow, sighing theatrically with a shake of his head. “No, you’re right. Would never dream of trying to get anything /really good/ out of this place. Pretty much anywhere else, though, in the entire world, is less prepared than this place.”

"Really good, huh?" Jack asks, leaning back. "What do you have in mind? Stealing corporate secrets? Blackmailing politicians? Messing up people's blogs?" he jokes.

“No way,” Sergio turns up his chin, narrowing his eyes in amusement, “...to the blackmail. That’s sinking too low. And the blogging is probably too low for my taste, too. Yes way to the corporate espionage.” He pokes at his food, not really eating it, “When they picked me up, I got to help the X-Men find people who needed help after this big storm happened. Because I can slip into places nobody else can. When we’re both X-Men, they’ll probably use us for more stuff like that.”

Because I can slip into places nobody else can. When we're both X-Men, they'll probably use us for more stuff like that. Rescues."

"We can finally discover coke's secret formula!" Jack suggests playfully. "And then make Pepsi and Dr Pepper get into a bidding war for it," he adds. Jack drains his juice before attention focuses on Sergio. It's his turn to give a look of admiration when Sergio mentions search and rescue look. "Man...that's pretty awesome," he murmurs. "I don't know how much use I'd be in a rescue. I mean I'm just invisible and my TK isn't all that good for lifting big stuff."

“You’re going to have to do better in Chem if you want to /understand/ the formula,” Jack’s roommate leans back again, grinning, “Yeah, but I can’t even move anything when I’m ‘invisible,’ y’know?” The teen puts air quotes around the word invisible. “I’m pretty much useless besides being able to talk. It’s all about getting creative on the fly.”

"Oh, I don't need to understand it. Just make sure I know someone that does," Jack reasons. He chuckles though. "Yeah but you can get places and reassure people and relay info," he shrugs. "You're right though. All about adapting."

As the bell for the lunch period to end rings, Sergio’s smile doesn’t fade. He turns to watch as everyone begins to rise up around them and filter out towards their next class. “We’ll revisit this,” he assures Jack with a pinched expression and a nod, though what exactly they’re revisiting isn’t exactly clear - nonsensical planning? Bending at the waist, Sergio heaves up his backpack to hang off of the back of his chair and makes to put away his tray.

"Definitely," Jack agrees even if he isn't particularly sure what they're revisiting. He's enjoying the conversation too much. Standing, he stretches his arms over his head. A few people passing by bump him and a couple mutter things about not seeing him. Jack just shakes his head again though. "Don't worry about that, man. I'll get it. My next class is real close," he offers when he notices Sergio getting his tray.

“Thanks,” Sergio wheels back from the table, eyebrows waggling, “Mine isn’t.” With a grumble, he shakes his head and glides himself forward. In contrast, most passersby are very polite about seeing Sergio, and accommodating the space he takes up even with the chair, “Later, Jack!”

"Don't mention it, man," Jack offers, gathering up both trays. "See ya later," he calls as he parts from his roommate.
