Gabriel, Tess

In Absentia

2013-11-30

Gabriel meets Tess, has a /lovely/ conversation!

Location

<NYC> Central Park North

Central Park North is slightly quieter than its southern counterpart, being further uptown and slightly out of the bustle of the City - insofar as one can escape the bustle of the City even here, in the acres of green and blue that make up Central Park. The reservoir is in the northern half, providing miles of jogging and biking trails along the clear water, as well as benches for people to sit and rest.

Tess is sitting on a bench in central park, eating some bread from plastic discardable bag and staring at a piece of paper. She's not wearin a whole lot of clothes for the weather, which is just above freezing, but doesn't seem bothered by that.

Humming to himself, Gabriel walks towards the bench. Dressed in a warm jacket with a grey undershirt, a pair of jeans, and boots, the young Hispanic man looks towards Tess. "Oh, hello! Do you mind if I sit here?". He smiles, sitting down if allowed.

Tess scoots aside, shooting Gabriel a stinkeye but shaking her head. "It's fine." She grabs the bag and shoves the piece of paper inside it, grabbing more bread and chomping down on it like she hasn't eaten in months.

Gabriel just smiles at Tess's expression, his eyes flashing briefly as he sits down. "A bit cold, isn't it? Lovely day otherwise.". Gabriel is then reaching into his pocket, pulling out his cellphone and checking messages on it, before continuing. "Must be some good bread, eh?"

Tess shrugs at the comment of temperature, "I don't mind the temperature." She tears another bite out of her bread, "And I haven't had a proper meal in a couple days. Some guy bought this for me."

Gabriel tilts his head, his smile slowly fading. "Yeah, I know what you mean. I was holed up in my apartment for the last week or so up until all this shit ended. Luckily the zombies are pretty much gone, so things should go back to normal sooner or later.". Gabriel returns to tapping at his phone, slightly angrily, sending a message to someone. "It's a bit cold for my tastes, though. But, everyone is their own person, I guess.".

Tess shrugs, and instead of replying immediately she tears off another bite from that bread. After she swallows she says, "I mostly stuck to abandoned places." She doesn't particularly look like she's got, you know, more property than what she has on her body. Even that's torn, worn or simple hand-made plastic jewelry, which she probably made herself or bartered for. "This is some tasty bread."

Gabriel sizes up Tess with his eyes, and quickly stops, going back to his phone. "Well, then there was probably a lot of places for you to stick to. Whole island was pretty much abandoned.". he looks into the satchel at his side, before closing it back up. "I'm Gabriel, by the way. Nice to meet you.".

Tess shrugs, "Nice to meet you too, Gabriel." She doesn't give her own name, though. She finishes up this loaf of bread. "So why are you talking to me?"

"Because you seem interesting. Also, you're the only person here, aren't you?". Gabriel smiles again, not looking up from his phone. "Also, I'm bored. That's really all there is to it.". He grins, laughing.

Tess gives Gabriel the stinkeye again. "So you just talk to whatever interesting person you encounter? What if I was some mutie freak in a poor mood and decided to set you on fire for bothering me?" Because in Tess's mind, that's totally something that could happen.

"Then I'd take you out with me.". Gabriel grins again, though his tone seems to be serious as he says this. "But I do hope you don't set me on fire.". He flashes his eyes again, still grinning. "Though, I don't think that's going to happen anyways.".

Tess has this look of disgust. "So what you're saying is that you're an insane mutie-loving masochist. Okay." She moves even further to the side of the bench.

"I don't think I ever said that, actually.". Gabriel laughs a small bit, but also moves further away from her, to give her space. "All I was saying is, I don't go down without a fight.". He smiles, still tapping at his phone. "What's so wrong with mutants, anyhow?"

Tess replies, "What isn't wrong with them?" She starts to get up, dropping the piece of paper from her bag, and starts to walk away. If Gabriel picks it up, it's got some info on a shelter for mutants.

Unable to resist temptation, Gabriel looks down at the note, and just grins, his eyes flashing. "Yeah, I guess they are pretty awful. Just, horrible, disgusting things.". He is still on his phone, just grinning. "Just, ugh.".

Tess noticed Gabriel picked up that note and read it only after his comments, she tries to snatch the paper. "Give that back." To wit, her hands are colder than the air right now, not by much, but definitely quite cold.

Gabriel just hands the paper back to her, his hand touching hers in the process. He feels the freezing cold on her skin, and just keeps grinning. "I was kidding before. I have absolutely no issue with mutants, actually.". He then goes back to his phone. "Nice meeting you."

Tess gives Gabriel more stinkeye. "Idiot." She then stomps off, this time not leaving anything behind on accident or on purpose.

Gabriel waves her off, as he continues with his phone, just sitting there. "That was quite satisfying.".
