"You need to learn to share!"

Location

<XS> Music Room - FL2

Wide and spacious, seating in this soundproofed room comes largely on the sweep of gentle risers that afford the teacher an easy view of all the budding performers, and add another dimension to the acoustics of the room. Instruments of all types are carefully stored around the room, and a grand piano, immaculately upkept, takes the position of prize near the back. In a nod to the eclectic studies of the students, digital mixing equipment and turntables rub shoulders with the classical instruments. Music stands sit in front of most of the seats, and the only windows look out out over the side of the school grounds.

From outside it's faint, thanks to the soundproofing; the rhythmic rattle-thump of a small kebero that spills very muted beats out into the hallway after dinnertime. The hand drum is being played with a good deal of enthusiasm and no small measure of skill; Lyric, inside, in bright red skirt (intricately embroidered in silver and a lot of mirrorwork), black and green top with flowing sleeves, red scarf wound and tucked neatly around her head and beneath her neck, has the drum held under one arm as she dances with it around the room. Eyes closed. Her backpack is discarded in one corner of the room.

The door pushes open, then closed again. Then open again. This time to actually let K.C. /in/, a small frown on her face. She's plainly dressed; baggy carpenter jeans, similarly baggy Xavier's sweatshirt, a canvas tote bag hunt over her shoulder. Her brows are creased, eyes focused more on the floor than on the other girl; her head shakes slightly as she edges around the room towards the piano. "No --" Then catches herself, signing this instead: 'No.' And then, 'Loud'. And then: 'Wrong time for drums'. Her frown remains as she sets her tote down by the piano bench.

And then there's the Ellins. One pushes open the door after poking her head in at hearing the sounds. There's a small sign then,'I didn't know we had a music room.' She DOES have to mix in fingerspelling, though. Painfully slow sometimes. Still, the Ellin walks in. And is soon followed by another... and then another... and... Well, soon there are five of her entering the room looking over it in an impressed sort of manner. 'OMG. Does anyone mind if I hum?' Three seems to be the designated signer among them this afternoon.

Lyric doesn't look up at the first opening of the door, though when K.C. actually enters her eyes crack open. She offers the other girl a warm smile -- though it twists a little lopsided when K.C. signs. Her drumming stops; she hitches the strap of the drum a little higher up on her shoulder. 'Never the wrong time for drums.' This is /firm/. Her head tilts slightly to one side, a hint of amusement creeping into her expression once Ellin joins them. '/I/ don't mind.'

'Wrong time,' K.C. insists again, more emphatically. 'Piano time now.' She gestures, just as emphatically, to the piano. SEE? Piano. RIGHT HERE. As though it had not in fact been there all along. Her frown is not going anywhere, it seems: 'Piano time,' she reaffirms this, 'not humming.' Though she relents momentarily, very graciously allowing: 'Maybe hum quiet.'

'No. Only piano time for you. Drum-time for her. Hum-time for me. See? Why would it ONLY be piano time?' Her signs are short, sharp, aggressive in their motions. The Ellins meanwhile have begun to array themselves near the back of the room, signing a quick 'thanks' to Lyric, now. And then they begin a series of nonsense vocal excersizes to clear up their chords, warming up. Lovely gibberish. 'Besides, she was here first. I'm Ellin.'

Lyric's smile fades, lips twisting to one side as she watches Ellin's signing. She edges back towards the door as the Ellins move to the back of the room. 'How long is piano time?' she asks K.C., her own brows furrowing slightly now. 'Probably hard to practice with distractions.' This is offered to Ellin's question, with a shrug. 'What are you humming anyway?'

'No, piano time.' There's a frustration in K.C.'s words now; she's started to sit at the bench but stands back up, gesturing once more at the piano. 'This is always piano time. I'm always here. I /know/ you're Ellin.' Her hands clap over her ears after this, face scrunching up in annoyance at Ellin's humming exercises.

At least three of the girls watch Lyric edging along pay attention with more than casual interest. 'Titanium. Since I can't sing the actual words right now, I'm going to hum them.' She's taking on a more frustrated edge, of course. There's the sudden sound of grinding teeth at K.C.'s insistence that it is, in fact, piano time and no other time. At least the humming exercises have stopped. 'It can be other times, too.' Increasingly severe motions in her signs. She's usually so chill, but right now...?

'And you have to hum /here/? You can hum in any room. There aren't pianos in every room,' Lyric points out cautiously, looking between the other two girls with an uncertain expression. 'Or you could at least both pick the same song and play it together.'

'Don't KNOW that song PIANO TIME NOW.' K.C.'s signing isn't aggressive so much as upset, getting sloppier with agitation. 'Have to PRACTICE. Have to practice HERE. Here is where the PIANO is. Only have those songs.' She throw a hand out towards her tote bag, full of sheet music.

'You need to learn to share!' The girl begin to walk towards the door. And, if not stopped, will leave via the sanguine process of trying to slam the door on their way out. Every. Single. Time. Yeah. Logical.

Lyric certainly isn't about to stop her; she relaxes when Ellin heads out, exhaling a heavy breath. 'OK. Piano time, now.' She sets her kebero down in a corner, picking up her backpack instead. 'Maybe some other time, we can play together.'

K.C. twitches, hands clapping back over her ears at the slamming of the door. She takes her seat at the piano bench again, though, nodding to herself. 'Not practice time. Other time. Other time together.' And then she looks away, fingers setting on the keys as she starts in on scales.
