<XS> Gardens

From indoor gardens to outdoor, though without the protective greenhouse glass the back gardens do not last all year round. Still, the gardens out here are well-tended and well-worth spending time in, as well. The paths wending through the beds of flowers and herbs and vegetables spread out through the school's back grounds, tended by students as a credit class. Benches offer seating and a small pond is home to koi and turtles, as well as a few frogs. At the far back edges of the garden, a droning buzzing marks a few stacked white boxes as beehives.

Around midmorning, Rasa left the mansion with the intension of studying outside. The forecast warns of rain to follow, so ze is soaking in the little bits of sunshine between the clouds a bit more than reading the books resting on the bench around hir and in hir lap. Ze is wearing baggy pajama pants and an even looser top. Hir hair is dark brown and hir skin a Mediterranean olive. Hir face tilts toward the heavens when a break in the clouds passes over head, eyelids shut against the bright light, hir face relaxing in the gentle solar radiation. Ze inhales deeply and lets hir chin guide hir face back down to a more comfortable level, hir eyes cracking open to display amber hazel irises. After another moment enjoying the spring, ze turns hir attention back to hir book. Oh, math. How delightful.

Jax is often found where there are stray bits of sunshine, stealing them shamelessly for his own purposes. He is, at the moment, in cheerfully springtime clothes -- sunny yellow tank with pale sky-blue skinny jeans tucked into knee-high boots, a wide-brimmed ten-gallon hat. There's a canvas messenger bag hanging over his hip, one hand (chrome-blue nails) resting against it; huge mirrored sunglasses shade his eyes. He's been ambling through the gardens but he slows as he approaches, lifting one hand in a wave. "Hey, Rasa." His warm drawl is quiet, fingers closing against a strap of his bag. "M'I interruptin'?"

Rasa looks up at the sound of boots against the path, a little tense at first (and a little pale) but ze settles quickly at the sight of Jackson. Ze gives a tiny smile and a little wave before closing up hir book and putting it away. "Well, yes, but it's probably a good thing. Still having trouble concentrating right now." Ze stacks up the books around hir into a pile on the shorter side of the bench, leaving a good length of sitting material for Jax to sit on, should he wish. Ze then pulls hir feet onto the edge of the bench in front of hir, hugging hir shins to hir torso. "We're supposed to get rain later."

"Heard that. Shane kinda recruited me t'help bake? Cook? Somethin' 'bout a picnic? S'posed to be /proper/ sunny tomorrow, though, might have a better shot at it tomorrow afternoon." Jax shrugs a shoulder, moving to sit down on the bench when Rasa clears a spot; he pulls one leg up onto the bench, too, shucking his bag to rest it on the ground and then curling his arm around his shin, too. "Though s'warm enough I'll still bake if y'all don't mind a little rain."

"We're supposed to go somewhere off campus so I can get used to the idea that not everywhere else is a venus fly trap." Rasa admits, quietly. "Don't worry. We will follow proper procedure and have our phones at the ready, and make sure everyone knows where we are and... um." Ze sighs and rests hir chin on hir knees. "Maybe take armed guards." Ze glances over at Jackson, "Tomorrow's fine. I don't mind the rain myself, but rained on food can be unflavorful."

"An' kinda soggy," Jackson agrees, nose crinkling up. "I can cook y'all food t'morrow, then. Got any preferences? Shane wants banh mi." His fingers curl in against his shin, head tipping back to turn his sunglasses up towards the sky. He looks back over at Rasa after a moment. "It was actually leavin' campus I come to talk t'you about, though."

"Food that isn't supposed to be soggy being soggy is kind of an appetite killer." Rasa agrees, chewing on hir lip as ze thinks. "Hummus and chips. citrusy cupcakes... or floral flavors? I don't know. I feel odd making food requests. Banh mi sounds amazing though, especially if you can do a tofu version." Ze blinks a little when the topic changes, small furrows appearing in hir brow. "Oh? Am I not allowed to? I swear I just went for coffee and everyone has done it a million times before I was... not far."

"I can do tofu banh mi. And lemon-lavender cupcakes. I can do a lot of things. Hm. Picnic food is fun. Think I'm gonna take Spence ridin' anyhow so we'll jus' make extra." Jax shakes his head quickly when Rasa's brow furrows, his mouth opening into a small O. "Oh gosh. No, no, I didn't mean that at all. You're definitely allowed, you didn't -- do nothin' wrong." His teeth sink against his lip, fingers curling in against his shins, scrunching at the denim of his jeans. "I was actually comin' to look for you to ask you for your help."

"Oh. Well. That's better than being grounded," Rasa concedes, a small laugh escaping hir lips. Ze nods quietly and goes back to chewing on hir lip. "What did you need help with?" One leg slips from its perch and moves to settle back down on the ground.

"Jus' -- stop me if you don't want to talk about this, okay?" Jax bites at his lip again, shifting to turn just a little bit more towards Rasa. "Because the whole situation is just --" His head shakes, tipping down to frown towards his knee before he looks back up at hir, brows a little creased over the top of his sunglasses. "It's Dusk. He's been in a real bad way. An' the woman who helped with your leg -- she /might/ be able to help with his wings too? Only she don't know. If she can. Cuz she's never tried before and she don't know what they're even supposed t'look like. An' she don't got no way to learn without someone to study."

Rasa listens for a while, turning as Jax does, but holding hir leg a little firmer as he begins to explain the situation. Ze scowls uncomfortably when he mentions Dusk's condition, then starts nodding as he explains Kate's difficulty. "So, you want me to show her his wings on him?" Ze sniffs a little and wets hir lips. "I promised Dusk I'd take care of him while he was in there. It's the least I can do."

"Oh." This word is just exhaled soft and relieved, Jax's hand lifting to touch fingertips to his lips. "Oh, thank you, honey-honey. He's -- been." He swallows hard, his face a little pale behind the large glasses. His shoulders tighten, and then relax, his head dipping in a nod. "Yes. Yeah, I think seein' what his wings actually looked like on him would be -- yes. Cuz she had nothin' to go on afore -- thank you. I'll call her an' -- we can set up some meetin'? Hopefully soon? I don't -- know /exactly/ what she's gonna need but hopefully it'll. Be a start."

"I'll go now. Can we go now?" Rasa moves to stand up, hands moving to hir thighs, searching for pockets that don't exist. Ze frowns and looks down to see ze is still wearing pajamas and that ze is surrounded by books. "I ... uh. Maybe am not ready." Ze frowns a little. "I could shower and change and be ready in a half an hour. We can also wait until after lunch if that's important." Ze fidgets as ze stands there.

"Let -- me call her." Jackson drops his leg to the ground, giving a small nod. "See what her schedule's like this weekend." He stands, too, drawing a deep breath. "You -- probably don't need a huge rush I -- don't even know when she's free yet. I'll check in an' get back to you, 'kay?"

"Yeah. Sure. Um. Just excited and or nervous." Rasa takes a deep breath and turns to start gathering hir books and sliding them into hir book bag. "The sooner the better. For Dusk. It's been a long time." Ze lets out another calming breath before turning to stare Jackson. "You.. are still going to be there with me?"

"It's been too long," Jax agrees softly, stooping to pick up his bag and sling it over his shoulder. His fingers curl into the strap of his bag, twisting it up tightly and then releasing it. He gives Rasa a firm nod, a very small brief curl of smile. "Of course. I'll take y'into the city an' I'll stay with you all the while."

"Okay. Thanks. I'll stick around places where I'm easy to find, okay? Going to shower now, just in case." Rasa grabs hir bag and turns to head off. "Just let me know." There's a nervous smile and a tiny wave, and then ze is off.

"I'll find you," Jax promises. His head bobs in a quick nod, and he slips his phone out of his pocket as Rasa heads off, starting to thumb through his address book with his teeth caught again between his lip.
