Jack and Sergio

2015-10-23

"Oh yeah, this is going to be the best Halloween in a long time."

Location

<XS> Cody, Jack and Sergio's Dorm - FL2

The influx of new students this year has led to a bit of overcrowding at Xavier's, and it is starting to show in the dorm arrangements, many rooms like this one refitted for three students where they had once been built for only two. The standard two closets have been joined by a large armoire against one wall; three dressers have been moved in, three desks. A bunk bed on the left side, a lofted twin with its desk underneath it on the right.

Later in the evening, past the curfew for the younger students but before lights out, Jack's making his way back to his room. He's been out for the majority of the evening like most Friday nights. Just in worn jeans and an older hoodie, he's trying to be quiet as he enters so as not to wake up potentially sleeping roommates. He slips in and closes the door behind him, shrugging his backpack off his shoulder as he does.

Sergio sits with his legs folded out in front of him. The raspy sound of marker rapidly rubbing against cardboard under his whisper, “Hey.” From his bottom bunk, he smiles and sets aside the large cardboard circle he’d been coloring in with silver paint-marker.

Jack pauses when the smell of paint marker hits him. "Woah," he murmurs, shaking it off with a chuckle. "Hey, Serg," he offers, tossing his bag onto his bed and then stepping back to see what his roommate is up to. "What're you working on?"

“Costume,” Sergio stifles a giggle, shaking his head, “It’s so crappy.” The teen pulls aside the scrabs of cut cardboard and art supplies to make room on his bed for Jack. “I’m gonna color these silver with an X,” he explains as he holds up the one disc he’s been working on, “And put them over the wheels of my chair. ...And then, I have a bald cap.” He grins, a lot.

Jack sits carefully, looking at all the cardboard. "It's not crappy," he replies. The details slowly come together in his head and one can almost hear the grin in his voice. "Dude! You're going as the Professor? That is awesome!"

Sergio bites his bottom lip, bouncing in excitement on the little twin mattress, "Right? You really like it, though?" He tosses a hand out as if to play-slap Jack's shoulder, "What about you?" Still beaming, Sergio starts back with the coloring, "What are you going to be?"

"Of course, man. It's a great idea! I can't wait to see how he'll react too," Jack replies. The slap will get a slight wince that Jack does his best to hide. When asked about his costume, Jack glances around and lowers his voice. "Keep it a secret?" he asks. Not waiting for a reply, Jack heads over to his closet. He digs inside behind some clothes before producing a Darth Vader mask to show Sergio.

Too naive, or too distracted by the prospect of Halloween, Sergio doesn’t investigate the wince. “No way!” Bringing up both hands, Sergio pantomimes his brain exploding, “My original idea was to be Han Solo but I figured I should stick close to the stupid chair. How crazy would that have been? Awww, man!”

"Really? Man that is crazy," Jack laughs. "I think you'd be an awesome Han," he adds. "I just figured that the costume covers everything so no one will know it's me. And I can do this," he replies, using his TK to levitate a desk chair for a few moments. "So I can fake the Force. I even have..." he trails off, digging in the closet again before producing a toy lightsaber. "This to go with it."

“Yess,” Sergio hisses behind a toothy smile, slapping his thigh. Brushing his homemade costume aside, he slips off of the bed to come over to the closet. The fabric of his hoody and pajama pants swish as he moves, “How did you hide this stuff from me?” He laughs, reaching to test-touch the fake lightsaber. “This Halloween is going to be so much fun. Mutant High, dude. For the win.”

"I brought it back real late the other week. When you and Cody were already out for the night," Jack explains. The toy's pretty much just a flashlight with plastic tubing for the 'blade' part, Jack offers it to Sergio when he comes over. "Oh yeah, this is going to be the best Halloween in a long time."

“VVvvssshhzzzz,” Sergio purses his lips, making the lightsaber sound as he flourishes the plastic toy like a samurai sword, “Vvvzzzshhhwwzzzz. Did you see the new trailer yet? We should totally go when it comes out.” He pretends to slice at Jack a few times before giving the saber back.

Jack watches with amusement, playing at being sliced when Sergio swings his way. "That's half of what gave me the idea, actually," Jack replies with a chuckle. He accepts the lightsaber and collapses it down to its more compact form. "Sure, I'll definitely go with you."

Bouncing back over to his bed, Sergio shuffles his project into one messy pile. Bending down, he shoves most of it under the bed for safekeeping. “I’ll finish this later,” the teen scoffs, grunting as he flops back onto his bed. He’s stopped complaining endlessly about the cold, especially after being warned about how much colder it’s going to get, but that doesn’t stop him from frowning deeply over at Jack as he pulls his hood up over his head. “Night, Anikin,” Sergio gruffs, grinning as he pulls free his covers for himself.

Jack watches Sergio for a moment and then chuckles. "Night, Obi Wan," Jack replies. He packs things back into his closet and then sets about quietly getting changed into what he usually wears to bed in the winter. Sharp eyes might spot bandages on his side and one shoulder before Jack grabs a book off his desk and climbs up onto his bunk.

Sharp eyes? How about telepathic ones?

Sergio isn't lying in his bed with his eyes closed for more than a moment before they reopen. Frowning in confusion and concern, he stares off into the dark room as he listens to Jack get settled. Eventually, he succumbs to sleep but only after a good amount of wild theorizing.
