While it is slightly cloudy, the sun still shines through over the lake in the afternoon, glittering on the small waves on the water. Marinov sits at the end of the pier, staring off over the water with slightly narrowed eyes. They wear a tight maroon athletic halter top and a pair of black workout pants with similarly coloured highlights; they often spend much of their free time running in the forest and it's likely that they are just taking a break from just such an activity. Their fur is still coloured in the space theme they started wearing a few days ago, rather than their usual spots. After a bit of time looking off and enjoying the relative quiet, they decide that it could be a great time and place for a selfie, removing their small backpack to rifle through and grab their phone. Floating on his back on the calm surface of the lake, Kyinha might be hard to spot for someone who isn't looking closely. The water seems to enhance the uncanny non-reflectivity of his jet black skin, which, with his eyes and mouth closed, is only interrupted by the wavy blue ombre of his swim trunks. Only his nose, mouth, fingertips and toes really break the surface of the water. As he drifts closer to the pier, he turns his hands down in a lazy almost-non-gesture that quite dramatically rights him in the water only a few yards from where Marinov sits. His eyes open before the water is done streaming off his hair (indistinguishable in color from his skin to most eyes), the fiery light bright in their featureless depths. "Oh, beg your pardon!" He ducks his head slightly, treading water with a slow, graceful ease. "I hope I did not startle you." The recently grabbed phone flies up into the air when Kyinha makes himself known, and Marinov fumbles with it a couple of times before catching it. "N- No! You didn't startle me at all," they flagrantly lie. "Swimming in the lake? Isn't the water still a bit cool? Or... um, does that bother you anyways?" They tap lightly at the phone's screen and cross their legs. "I've been swimming in the pool indoors when I get the urge. Regulated temperature, yeah?" Kyinha winces. "My apologies. That was an excellent save, though!" With a nod at Marinov's not-drowning phone. "It is still a bit cool, yes, but my body regulates its own temperature splendidly, and so it does not bother me too much. Lovely day to be outside, regardless." His grin is wide and literally bright, yellow-orange glow shining through his teeth. "Have you got any plans for your day off?" "Thanks, I've got the reflexes of a- well, a cat," says Marinov, wiggling the phone in their hand demonstratively. "Yeah, it's a great day to be out, I was just doing some running and stuff in the woods," says the youth, "But I don't have much for plans, just gotta do some more work on my project, I guess. My family's out in Seattle, so it's not like I can visit them at the drop of the hat, yeah? And it's good to spend some time out and about exercising, I've always got like, a shi- a whole bunch of energy to burn off. How about you? Big plans?" "Project! That is very studious of you." It's always hard to read Kyinha's expression when his powers are active, and harder still when his head is bobbing up and down in the water. "What class is it for, if you do not mind my asking? I am not asking this in a teacherly capacity, for what it is worth. I have tremendous plans of lying in the sun all day and reading, if I can manage. Though it might not happen, but so it goes." "Oh, it's not for a class. Though I have been trying to keep up with schoolwork too. You ever get the feeling you bit off more than you can chew?" says Marinov, tilting their head just slightly in an inquisitive expression. "It's the art festival thing that I've been working on, I need to recruit more volunteers." They lift up their phone overhead, angling to try and get a better looking shot. "And iron out all the schedule stuff." Click. "I have, on a few occasions," Kyinha admits. "I have heard whispers of this art project. I'm afraid I am not much of an artist, myself, but I will happily provide logistical support. I can volunteer some time and labor, but also...how is your funding situation?" "It's... umm. Not ideal, but it's okay," admits Marinov, "I've contacted some of the Evolympics sponsors and got some sponsorship, their logos will appear on like... banners and programs and stuff. But I think that people're less interested in mutant artists than, like, seeing mutant athletes I guess? But, we've got enough for some spaces and Shane said that Evolve will provide refreshments and stuff." They tuck the phone back into their pack and focus on Kyinha again, "I appreciate you volunteering, though! I think it'll be fun, even if it's a lot of work." Kyinha gives a thoughtful hum. "I'll see about getting Da Costa International to sponsor you. In the meantime, have you considered using some kind of crowdfunding? I would gladly throw some change at one of those." He settles back into an easy floating position and drifts a few feet. "Many hands make light work! You also could make an announcement on the campus bulletin, no?" "Oh, yeah, crowdfunding. That's a good idea, I didn't even think of it..." says Marinov, brow furrowing slightly, "And some sponsorship from Da Costa International would... help." They reach a foot down into the water from the pier to check the temperature, giving it a shake of their head as it's determined too cold for entry. "And, yeah, I'll put something up on the campus bulletin. Thanks for the advice, teach. It's coming up and every bit of help helps..." "Excellent!" Kyinha treads a little harder, his shoulders sliding above the surface for a moment before he dips back down. "Do email me the relevant information -- or, I can probably get it off that bulletin when you send it out. I look forward to it!" He settles back down to float on his back again, but before his lets his eyes submerge again he adds, "Looking forward to it. Do enjoy the weather, before you get to your working, though." And then he's drifting off again, toward the deeper waters of the lake. |
