Introduction

xxxxxJust a chill guy

Description

xxxxxBobby is sleekly built, standing around 5'10 with a lean, slender frame. His skin is a warm, rosy beige, the hint of a tan that darkens in the summer and fades back in winter, supplementing the choppy mess of brown hair that falls just above his eyebrows and the lazily trimmed stubble he has yet to figure out how to style. When he smiles – which is often – dimples crease his cheeks, the light smattering of freckles at his nose lending him an almost boyish look. There’s a scrappiness to the way he dresses - faded T-shirts, jeans soft with wear, and old sneakers scuffed from years of use, and jacket-wise he is Carharrt’s dream customer. Thrifted though, of course. He’s got a relaxed approach to his appearance; casual not careless, and while he may look a bit rough around the edges, those dimples of his soften him up more than he probably realises.

Reputation

xxxxxLong Beach local, three-time Rell Sunn Contest winner and all-round neighbourhood Golden Boy (former) -- Bobby's ties to Long Island are deeply rooted. A relatively new member of the X-men, his tenure only spans three years and what feels like even less missions. Xaviers staff and student body know him as the x-man-who-doesn't-teach-but-is-always-around, or mostly the one-who-leaves-melted-ice-puddles-everywhere.

History

xxxxxBobby grew up as a typical, well-mannered kid in Long Island, New York, where he lived in a swanky beach house with his parents and younger brother. His early years were unremarkable, with solid if unspectacular academic performance and a budding interest in surfing. Living near Long Beach meant regular surf outings as he prepared each year for the Montauk Rell Sunn Contest, which he entered annually. However, at thirteen, he had to stop competing. His mutant ability had begun to emerge, manifesting as an involuntary freezing touch—often at inconvenient moments—which made the unpredictability of open water too risky.

xxxxxDetermined to keep his abilities hidden, Bobby managed to convince his parents to enrol him at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. He framed it as an elite prep school, and although his parents were initially hesitant, Professor Xavier’s natural persuasive influence helped assure them.

xxxxxAt Xaviers, Bobby thrived. Free from the constant anxiety of hiding his mutant abilities, he could finally split his focus between mastering his powers and excelling academically. Whenever he visited his parents, he eagerly returned to surfing, now far more at ease in the water knowing he could control his freezing ability. But when he eventually revealed his powers to his family, their reaction was unexpectedly distant—especially his brother’s. Their cold response, which luckily was considerably worse than their reaction to him opening up about his sexuality, created a rift that ultimately led Bobby to leave New York upon graduating to study at UNLV. As much as putting that distance between them, both physically and emotionally, pained Bobby, it allowed him to grow as a mutant and eventually demonstrate to his family that his powers weren’t a burden or a curse.

xxxxxWith a lighter outlook and natural charisma, Bobby quickly built connections at UNLV, eventually landing a role in events management with the World Surf League—a job perfectly aligned with his passions. With an unexpected career secured, he returned to New York where he now resides between peak work seasons. Although his relationship with his family remained somewhat strained, it had improved, and he had rekindled friendships with his former classmates from Xavier’s.

xxxxxAs the atmosphere around mutants grew increasingly tense, it wasn’t long before Bobby joined the X-Men, committed to easing conflicts and fostering understanding wherever possible.

Powers

xxxxxBobby possesses the ability to generate cold and ice from his body. He can project it from his hands in a coolant-like spray that generates ice on whatever it comes in contact with, which he can use to create ice to slide around on. The density of the ice can be brittle like glass or denser, harder like rock.

xxxxxHe can also turn his body into an organic rock-solid ice form, though even after 13 years of playing with snowballs he has yet to figure this out.

xxxxxHe cannot generate ice when subjected to high temperatures, and though his denser, rock-like ice is more durable in these conditions, even that will eventually melt.

xxxxxHe can reduce the temperature around him in an immediate radius, but hotter environments would make this a lot harder to accomplish. If he is particularly dehydrated and there is a severe lack of moisture in the air, he would struggle to generate cold or ice at all.

Skills

xxxxxClose Combat - very basic martial arts that he trained in upon joining the X-Men

xxxxxGnarly Surfer Dude - recreationally and competitively (it's even easier on ice!)

xxxxxSlack Whizz - very proficient in slack, microsoft teams, other soul-crushing forms of online team communication (gatekeeps the fun hidden features)

xxxxxPhotoshop Mastermind - what started out as a fun skill to make silly edits of his friends’ photos turned out to be incredibly useful both in his line of work and for small favours, like designing invitations etc - handy person to know for last minute events!
