James Arthur Madrox
Introduction

xxxxxJamie Madrox is... one in a million (well, not quite), but he can be one in a million (well, one in fifty, give or take) with a snap of his fingers! With his mutant ability to instantly, perfectly clone himself (into what he calls 'dupes') over and over again, Madrox can literally surround himself... with himself. This has done wonders for his ego as well. He is a former student of Xavier's, a member of the Brotherhood, and already on the cops' watchlist as a wanted felon -- but at heart, he is a larrikin, a thrill-seeker and go-getter.

xxxxxMultiplied.

History

xxxxxJamie Madrox’ powers first manifested at puberty, like most other mutants. His first kiss with his (then) highschool crush did not go as well as he would have liked -- as she slapped his face and... voila! Two Jamies for the price of one! Fortunately, Madrox’ parents were friends of Charles Xavier and he offered his help so that Jamie could someday learn to control his abilities -- and the teenager was transferred to Xavier’s school.

xxxxxMadrox proved an intelligent and gifted student (excelling especially in science)... but lacked the responsible nature Xavier also tried to impart. He made a name for himself as class prankster until eventually leaving the school and vanishing into the world to make a name for himself there.

xxxxxHe did.

xxxxxAs a bank robber and burglar. While not an especially ‘evil’ person (he did not go out of his way to hurt people), Madrox delighted in the thrill of the chase -- and outwitting the authorities. He was caught often -- rather, one of his dupes was caught -- and this more than anything else frustrated the police and FBI as they could never be sure they had the right man.

xxxxxIt was all this that drew the attention of Magneto’s Brotherhood of Mutants, who broke Madrox out of prison after he (the original ‘he’) was apprehended during his ‘ultimate heist’. Madrox has been a loyal member of the Brotherhood ever since

Powers

xxxxxDuplicates. Called ‘dupes’ for short, Madrox can spontaneously create perfect duplicates of himself any time he absorbs any kinetic energy (from anything as simple as a bump, to a punch or even being hit by a car) It has to be kinetic energy, also -- heat, cold, plasma, magic etc... won’t generate clones. The larger the kinetic impact, the more dupes he can create from it -- but to create one or two, he would need only snap his fingers, or clap his hands (kinetic force still HURTS, it just produces a clone as well). Each clone is a perfect copy -- right down to the powers that Madrox Prime has (so, hitting a clone... makes another clone). The maximum number is about fifty, or Madrox will suffer a mental breakdown (not good).

xxxxxIf he keeps the number of clones down (to about twenty or less), they can all act with a high degree of individuality -- such as when Madrox managed to rob seven banks at the same time. The more dupes, however, the less independent they become -- but a handful of them could typically go about their lives, pretending to be the Prime (and they often do). However many clones there are, they are exactly like the Prime Madrox, right down to the molecular level; it would take a powerful telepath to sort through the dupes to find the 'real' one.

xxxxxMadrox manages to keep tabs on his dupes by means of a low-level telepathic field; with this, he can control his other selves and even track them across distances. While Madrox himself is all but immune to telepathic control (due to his brain chemistry -- but he is not a telepath, per se), the telepathic field can theoretically be disrupted, robbing him of his ability to coordinate with his dupes (almost like disrupting a hive mind, even though the connection is not quite as defined as a hive; pain and death can be felt across all the 'Madri' (versions of Madrox). To truly assimilate the experiences, skills and memories of his dupes, Madrox has to absorb them back into himself. He cannot absorb dead clones -- and any cloned items dropped by the dead dupe disintegrate.

Brotherhood - Madrox has been a loyal member of Magneto's brotherhood for a while now. He also has a soft spot for oppressed mutants in general.
Xavier's - He used to be one of Xavier's students -- but ended up running off seeking adventure. He is relatively familiar with the school and the X-Men.
Crook - Some of Madrox' dupes have jobs, some don't. Madrox himself considers his vocation to be 'privateer'. Need something done? He's your man. Men.
Everywhere - It is highly likely that there is a dupe around the corner from you. Madrox likes to assimilate new skills and experiences, so his clones are everywhere... more or less.
