xxxxx Ruth is a teenage girl of fifteen or sixteen years of age. Everything about her features is slightly exaggerated, from the length of her face and nose, to the size of her eyes and the fullness of her lips. Most striking about Ruth's appearance is the pearl horn that spirals from the center of her forehead, parting the heavy bangs she wears in a futile attempt to conceal it. Roughly three inches in length, it shimmers with a strange array of color. Her hair is a tangle of chestnut and mahogany that sweeps back from her bangs to well past her shoulder blades. Ruth's skin is covered in a soft and velvety coat of silver-dappled gold. Least striking are her eyes: they're large and expressive but are also an entirely natural shade of dark brown, hidden behind the thick lenses of her cats-eye glasses.
xxxxx She dresses like someone who wants to be stylish in a vintage sort of way but can't really afford the full effect. Ruth's taken a man's white cotton dress shirt and altered it to fit her frame. It's long enough to act as a dress, dropping to mid-thigh, with a wrap-belt made of the excess fabric. The style leaves her digitigrade legs unhampered and she wears no shoes, for where feet should be there are pearly cloven hooves; each ankle is decorated with silky feathering. A whip-like tail snakes out from beneath the hem of this makeshift tunic and ends in a fluffy twist of dark hair.

xxxxxPhysical: Ruth is a unicorn. Not the horsey unicorns of popular mythology, but something closer to the oldest depictions of the beasts: small, delicate, more caprine than equine. She has a three inch horn sprouting from her forehead, a velvety coat of silver-dappled gold, digitigrade legs that end in pearly cloven hooves, and a whippy tail with a lion-like tuft on the end of it. If it werent for her asthma and other limitations, she'd probably be an incredible sprinter and capable of impressive jumps, but...yeah, the changes are purely cosmetic and mark her as a visible mutant.
xxxxxThe Horn: In legends, unicorn horns were greatly desired for their ability to do everything from purifying poisons to healing the sick to giving men a much needed boost to their sexual stamina. Ruth's horn is something else entirely: it works as a filter for the unhealthy and negative around her. It gathers things like angst, depression, and anger into itself, leeching these from the surrounding environment in a mild dampening effect, and storing it inside of the horn to be processed and disappeared. While it doesn't remove unhealthy emotions entirely, it does leave those around her in a better position to approach a situation in a healthy fashion. It is not a conscious effect, Ruth has no control over it and she'd rather not have it at all because of the downsides--strong negative emotions leave her with raging migraines. An additional effect of her horn concerns lying--since lying is a conscious choice, rather than a subconsciously triggered emotion, the reaction is stronger: she /cannot/ lie without causing herself physical pain, and when others lie within earshot of her, the horn itches like mad, ruining her ability to concentrate. While this makes her a living polygraph, which could be useful, this is also not the most comfortable of abilities considering that she's still within high school.
xxxxxPlant Whisperer: She is one with nature! The green growing part of nature, anyway. Ruth can commune with plantlife, both Terran and aquatic. Through careful, gentle communion and cultivation, she can encourage faster, healthier growth, and get a sense of what the plant needs. If she's willing to risk losing herself in the slow-motion verdant realm, she can even pick up on events that happened near the plant, though this is difficult to interpret given the alien perceptions of plantlife when compared to human. In time, her control of flora will increase to perhaps frightening levels, but for now shes still learning the extent of her abilities.
xxxxxAllergic to Everything: This was the first aspect of her mutation to manifest and something she's struggled with since infancy. Unicorns are not comfortable living in the modern world! Increased UV radiation has left her strongly near-sighted; without her glasses, she can only see fuzzy shapes and colors. If she wears synthetic fabrics, she develops horrific rashes. Eating processed foods, or even non-processed foods that have been treated with chemical fertilizers or pesticides, she suffers anaphylactic reactions. Pollution has gifted her with asthma, and she's prone to catching every new bug that comes around on a yearly basis. Most of this she's been able to cope with by strict adherence to diet and making her own clothes, but she will never be found without her glasses, an EpiPen, and tissues. Her jealousy of people who can just casually order and consume a pizza, or stop at McDonalds, knows no bounds.
