Word is they were brought to the school via emergency teleportation, and an electromagnetic anomaly the day after their arrival that damaged and destroyed electronic devices has certainly stoked rumors about their powers.

{{Tab}}Kelawini lived in Hilo all her life with her parents David and Kiana, her hānai sister Nanami, and Nanami's birth mother Luna. They were not well-off, but lived comfortably enough until the University of Hawaii essentially forced Kiana out for leading other faculty members in criticizing the construction of the TMT. Necessity and opportunity aligned to bring her family to Chicago in the winter of 2019. Right on the heels of this stressful life change, the COVID-19 pandemic struck, and both Māhoe sisters manifested in short order. Kelawini's technopathic abilities were, while at times distracting and at times ethically challenging, neither obvious nor dangerous. At least so she thought, until it started interacting with Nanami's electrokinesis. These disastrous interactions drew the attention of the sysadmin at Xavier's School, and brought the X-Men to their door, promising a place of safety and fellowship where the young mutants can learn how to control their powers and hopefully avoid more unsavory attention.
