Location

<NYC> BoM Safehouse - Lower East Side

Tucked away off a little-used side street in the Lower East Side, sandwiched between a youth drop-in center and a taqueria, this narrow three-story townhouse has very little to catch the eye. Boarded-up windows, a door peeling its paint, shabby grubby brickface; from the outside it does not look like much.

Inside someone has gone to great lengths to renovate the building into something more habitable. It isn't glamorous but it is comfortable, old furniture dragged in, the place generally swept clean. The first floor holds a large living room, a smaller dining room, a spacious kitchen, a half-bathroom. There are three bedrooms and a full bathroom on the second floor; the attic is just a large empty space crammed full of boxes with a window out to the large flat roof.

The basement, much like the attic, consists of a lot of empty space. A bare concrete floor, no windows, occasional poles running up to the ceiling. A tiny half-bathroom down here, too. Not a whole lot else.

Isak has been spending a fair bit of time here over the last few days. Everyone's more than a little on-edge after all the kidnapping. He rather doubts his ability to be a proper protector should it come down to it, but he's trying to at least /seem/ confident. At the moment, he's tidying up the kitchen. There's a pair of teenagers over in the corner playing Nintendo DS and listening to the radio. There's movement that suggests a few people are upstairs.

The ground vibrates a little as someone marches up to the door. The sentries must know who this person is as no one puts up any sort of fuss when he approaches the front door. The door opens and the rumbling stops, a young man of about twenty stands for a moment, looking around before he starts approaching people and talking to them. The teenagers are ignored at first, instead he heads after the person in the kitchen. "Hey. You work or live here?"

Isak looks up at the sound of stomping. He is momentarily on-guard, but given the people at the door let him pass, he relaxes. "Neither. I'm just here to keep an eye on things and give some others a break." He dries a plate and tucks it away into the cupboard. "You looking for someone?"

"I'm looking for Dusk and Ion." Ash's answer is a little flat, he looks over at the dishes with an air of sadness, his lips flattening into a fine line. "Or I'm here to help look for Dusk and Ion. I want to help. Have you seen Kay? That hombre is terrible with a phone and I can't seem to get a hold of him." Frustration keeps his jaw clenched, but he speaks like a gentle man at the end of his rope.

Isak is preparing himself to relay bad news to Ash, but when he indicates he knows, there's a look of relief on his face. "Hm. I met Kay last night. But I haven't seen him today." He looks the other over, then, "I just made some fresh coffee. And I think there's some whiskey hidden in the corner of a cupboard."

"Oh. Coffee? I'm kind of already jittery as it is. Don't really need me bringing down the house around our ears, now do we?" Ash takes a deep breath as he moves to the cupboard and pulls out a glass, then fills it with water. "What did Kay say when you talked to him? These guys are my hermanos, kid. Anything you can tell me would be helpful."

"I don't know what that means, but I can infer the meaning." Isak's accent is subtle, but present. It's something European, but hard to place. "He didn't say much. We only talked briefly. This place has been very on-edge the last few days. There are people who won't leave."

"Hermanos. Brothers. Familia." Ash is not doing the best keeping the Spanish and the English straight but inhales deeply and nods. "People who won't leave? What on earth are you talking about? Of course, people are on edge. Two of our own were grabbed just outside the door. It's kind of a huge deal." He drinks down the water and leaves the glass in the sink, turning to pace, nervous energy bubbling up inside him.

"Here. Won't go outside. I suppose that's safer, but it brings the nervousness of everyone up." Isak drapes the dishcloth over his shoulder and leans on the counter. "And wearing a hole in in the floor will not help anything. Tea? I can make tea. Something soothing." And then he turns to put the kettle on.

"Ah. Um." Ash stares at Isak blankly then shakes his head. He pulls his cellphone out of his pocket. "Thanks, I appreciate it, but no. I'm just not ready to relax. Thanks for the talk." He turns to walk out, dialing up someone else."

Isak frowns a bit, but nods. "Well. Suit yourself. If there's a way I can help, I'm willing. But there seems to be many willing to help, but few with a plan and a place to direct their anxiousness and fear."
