<XS> Rasa and Shelby's Dorm - FL2 | |
It has been a long day. Classes, detention, being sprayed in the face with a water gun... Perhaps it is no surprise then that Shelby is not in the best of moods. Enough so that she actually /skipped dinner/, which would be a first. She's also pushed her desk over to the window to extend the sill and create a seat for herself. With the window open and the cool spring breeze swirling around the dorm room, perhaps her mood will improve? No? Okay, maybe scrolling through texts will do it. She's occupied with that at the moment, thumb flicking over the screen. Rasa enters at some point while Shelby is scrolling through texts. Ze gives the back of hir head a bit of a stare before moving over to her side of the room and plunking down an apple on Shelby's desk next to her. Ze then moves over to her bed and begins to remove hir shoes, setting them aside and crawling up into bed. Ze watches Shelby like a creepy, creepster - but since ze is her roommate, it's much less disturbing and more full of concern. Rasa gets a brief look upon first entering, a faint smile, but it's the apple that earns more of Shelby's attention--and subsequently gratitude. "Man, thanks. I completely forgot," she says, scooping it up to take a bite. After some crunchy chewing, it occurs to her that Rasa has yet to say anything. And is staring. This earns a quick peek. "Ummm...I di'n't smoke, promise," the teen goes on to mumble through the mouthful. "Jus' wan'ed fresh air." "Oh. well. Good." Rasa tries to sound stern and accepting at the same time, but doesn't really pull it off all that well. Ze is a nice healthy shade of rosy gold today, with spun honey colored hair. Ze is wearing a puffy tunic with jeans. "You know I have more snacks if you need them. i have to squirrel away food all the time, so I can make you a bit of a better dinner, if you like." Ze slowly crawls out of bed like some sort of boneless thing, until hir feet hit the floor. Suddenly ze's a human figure again. "What's up?" "Nah, not real hungry." Shelby turns back to the phone, only thinking to mumble a thanks after she's halfway through the next bite. "You met that new teacher yet? The big muscley chick? She's a sadistic bitch, you should like...stay away from her." This is offered in much the same way as she might say, "Better take your umbrella, it's going to rain." You know, if she were a normal person. Her thumb continues to flick over the phone screen, the contents there eventually leading her to glance up at Rasa again. "Hey...can you like...give me your opinion on something?" "No, I haven't, but aside from Jax, I'm not sure I'm thrilled with the new teachers in general." Rasa moves closer still, eyeing Shelby. "Sure. I think I can give an opinion. I will try to be... objective and all that." Ze rests a hand on the back of Shelby's chair and leans hir weight against it. "What is it?" "The one who helped me when Ivan's bugs went like whoa eat all flesh was okay. But yeah, this one is shitty. She shot me with a water gun just for /talking/." Slight exaggeration there, Shelby. Just a little lie between friends. She moves right along though, holding the phone out towards Rasa with a grimace. Not /entirely/ happy? Or maybe just at a complete loss. "So I texted Hive last night, right? And he texted back and now I don't know /what/ to think. Could you...maybe...?" "Oh, well, I guess that's cool," Rasa replies in reference to whatever teacher Shelby is referring to. Ze does reach out and take Shelby's phone for a moment, turning the whole thing over in hir hands, fascinated by the smart phone aspect. Oh. Right. Texts. Ze scritches some fingers through hir hair as ze starts reading the texts. "Hmmm. Um, is there a part in particular that you were concerned about?" ze asks a little bit into them, seeing that it is not a short conversation. Without the phone to cling to, Shelby curls up a la pillbug with her back against the windowframe. "Just all of it," she says, unhelpfully. A close eye is kept on Rasa's face, though she masks the intensity of this observation by continuing to gnaw on the apple. "I can't figure out if he's just being nice, which is like...totally not him /anyway/ or if he's...I dunno. He said it was nice. But then he was all gotta get lucky somehow and I dunno. It's weird, isn't it?" "Wait, what? You think he was getting lucky while he was texting you?" Rasa is missing this somewhere in the subtext. "Oh, um." Shelby tilts over, helpfully pointing to the bottom of the screen. "I told him he was lucky 'cause Jim let him play with his guns and he said 'gotta get lucky somehow'. Like he couldn't...uh. With me. Y'know?" Hello, teenager who is reading /way too much into this/. She straightens up and returns to watching and gnawing, gnawing and watching. "Honey, if guns are penises, then you might lack that thing that attracts him." Rasa tries to point this out as gently as possible, but probably fails. "Wait a minute. How many penises does Jim have?" Rasa might be disturbed. "It was a joke. Guys dig penis jokes, remember the one you told Jim and everyone that night?" Shelby scrapes the last of the apple flesh off of the core and then carelessly tosses said core out the window. Down down down it goes. Hopefully no one's down there. "I haven't seen how many he's packing but uh...when Hive...when I was over there, that's how shit started, you know? I told Hive Jim was taking me to the shooting range and he asked if I liked handling big guns. Or something." Somehow it sounds much less smooth, this way. "Oh. Okay. Sometimes you have to ask... what with us being mutants and all." Rasa considers this for a moment. "Yeah, I kind of fail at being a boy a lot of the time." Ze gnaws at hir lip for a moment and sits down on Shelby's bed. "Well, kissing you must be nice, but he doesn't seem to want to respond to your flirting. It could be too soon." Ze starts the conversation over at the top. "I don't know, Shelbs. Do you want me to say you should still hope? I think you guys have a nice rapport. He didn't say a thing that was suggestive. Then again, Jim could have been right over his shoulder." Jiminy'ing all over Shelby's hopes and dreams. "I just wanna know what you think is all." Except it was probably more than that because after listening to Rasa's take on the phone messages, Shelby turns her head to look out the window. It is a picturesque pose--brooding ginger, a still life. "I guess I should've figured all of that when he brought up the teenager thing. How'd seeing Ivan go? You're all princess colors tonight." "Oh. Well, we're going to the movies tomorrow. Do you know any of the movies that are out right now? I want to kind of avoid anything too romantic. Not because I don't want to do romantic stuff with Ivan, but they're kind of boring." When hir coloration is noted, ze moves over to find hir reflection in a nearby mirror, lips pursing. "Huh. I think it's the sunshine today. Winter has been shitty." "Yeah, sure...the new GI Joe flick is out. Evil Dead...I dunno if you like that Stephanie Meyer chick but The Host is out too. Dunno if they're any good though." There's a faint smile in Shelby's voice. "Winter /has/ been shitty. I like the look though. It's nice." "Things'll be nicer with things warmer out. I'm sure of it." Rasa? Positive? Hmmm. Is there another shape shifter in the room? Ze settles back onto the bed and hands the phone over to Shelby. "I think you're obsessing. You wanted to remain friends with the guy, right? You're friends. How long until you're eighteen, by the way? Maybe we can plan a surprise pouncing on your birthday and we'll get you a new state ID that says you're over eighteen, and you can go buy your own smokes at the store and hand him the receipt and ... I don't know, do whatever you guys do together." "You always this cheerful in spring?" There, Rasa's pulled a little more humor out of Shelby. Enough that she turns her head to look at the metamorph. The phone is accepted. Glanced it. Tucked away in her hoodie's pocket. "Or maybe it's love," she theorizes, teasing. "Shit, I'm not eighteen until December. Seventeen's /totally/ legal in New York though. I looked it up, I dunno why everyone's all 'ew, teenager'. But...yeah...I guess friend's more important right now than fuck buddy." She pauses for a beat, then regains her old grin. It's a little stiff at first. Needs warming up. "At least 'til he's on his feet again." "He's not on his feet?" Rasa considers. Ze leaves all the questions about hir mood to hang unanswered. "Well, that's terrible." Ze leans until ze's laying down, looking at Shelby in her chair. "Sorry, I can't be your fuck buddy. Ivan is unexpectedly jealous or something so I told him I wasn't going to be kissing anyone else. It is a hassle - all those feelings that people have and mixing them up with physical stuff..." "It's taking him awhile to get over this, yeah," Shelby says, grin wavering, "but...gives him something to look forward to." She's just going to ram that good cheer right on through. All is well--fake it til you make it! Rasa's apology is waved away. "It's pretty dumb to mix 'em up, yeah. Don't worry about it. I'll score a hook up this weekend or just stock up on batteries or something. Think I'ma hit the showers now and then /sleep/. Get this fucking day over with." "Yeah. Sounds like a good idea." Rasa begins to extract hirself from the bed. "A nice hot one will totally relax you," ze remarks as ze stretches, skin filling with different popping and spreading pinks and reds, hir body contorting a bit as ze stretches as well. "And a shower'll help you sleep." "/Totally/," Shelby says, with odd emphasis and private amusement. She slides down off the desk--"I'll move that back after"--and goes to gather up the necessities. Towel, shower basket, flipflops, robe... "Seriously," she adds on her way to the door, "you're totally working that spring color palette." And who better to know? |
