Just some Normal People, hanging out at the lake. Nothing to see here. (Part of Flu Season TP.)

Location

<XS> Lake

It's a cold, clear Winter night. The frozen lake stretches out, icy surface hiding the life that still swims beneath. Glow can't actually remember the last time she saw a lake up close-- let alone one so quiet. With a shiver, the little Morlock pulls her hood tighter around her head, her skin glowing faintly in the darkness. 'You sure it's safe?' She signs to her guide, wide eyes peering about for any signs of unlife-- or maybe she's just trying to take in all the sights.

Rasa walks with Glow, one axe in hand, more for show than anything. Ze has layered tan and gray shirts under hir jacket, with seatbelt clasped belts across hir chest and waist, keeping hir trousers up. Hir hands and feet are bare for the most part, covered in chitinous scales, feathery hair peeking out from under them and covering most the rest of hir visible body. The gray being shrugs when Glow shrugs, glancing toward the shores of the lake. The axe hilt gets stuck under one arm, to make signing easier. 'Safe enough. We can see in most directions around us and I'm armed and trained. Nothing is completely safe though. Not even being inside.'

"Wow, /you're/ cheery. Are you just /trying/ to scare people?" As signs of life go, Anole doesn't make much of one -- amid a jumble of rocks on the shore, right now the skinny lizardboy just looks like one more. Lumpy and shadowy and grey melded into a pile of lumpy-shadowy-grey, his skin and clothes alike have shifted in with the boulders he is tucked on. He's easier to spot when moving, though; his head turns, eyes briefly catching the light with a hint more life than the duller rocks as he turns to look at the others. "There's forever between us and civilization out here. I'm more worried about the /living/ people back there," His clawed hand jerks back towards the school, "than zombies out here."

Glow just nods at Rasa's attempt at comforting. She appreciates the honesty, at least. And then there's sudden noise and movement, and the girl is skittering to hide behind Rasa. What? SHE'S not armed and trained. But then the noise turns out to be more eloquent than 'arrgh brains,' and she peeks out from behind Rasa's back. "Oh." She sighs with relief at the sight of Anole. "Hi."

"I take it you're healthy?" Rasa calls back. Ze inhales and lets hir arm hang at hir side loosely. "Good, good. I guess speaking is okay and all." Hir nose wrinkles up as ze glances around until ze picks up movement from Anole's camouflaged position. When he points back toward the school, ze looks, but then returns hir gaze to hir former school mate. "Yeah, we decided a walk was a better idea that the crowds inside. How are you? Feel like it's been forever."

"Hey, Glow. And no. I'm actually secretly a bioterrorist on a mission to infect the world. One word at a time." There's a crunch of sneakers against rocks as Anole shifts to face the others, one heavy clawed hand resting down between his feet. He shakes his head now, though, a crooked smile negating his former claim of illness. "Not so much as a sniffle since this all started. And I'm just the /normal/ amounts of starving. I could really go for some pizza now, though, I'll tell you that." The smaller of his two hands lifts, fingers curling in a wave. "Hey. Glad to see you're okay. I heard about the -- house." There's sympathy in his tone.

Glow lets out a little snicker at Anole's joke. "Worst bioterrorist ever. Giving up your plans. Didn't even have to interrogate you." There's a degree of familiarity in her tone, even through her typical mumbling. "Don't remind me of pizza..." She goes quiet as he addresses Rasa, obviously lacking any sort of clue what they're talking about. Not like it's any of her business, right? Right.

"Thanks... I think the others are taking it harder." Rasa has to pause, a blue color rippling through hir form as thoughts drift to other matters. Ze inhales and tries to return to a calmer gray. "When you guys get back to Manhattan, I'll see what I can do about some delivery. It's pretty pizza-less out there right now. You can't even smell it cooking on the streets anymore." Ze shakes hir head and reaches back, attaching hir axe to hir back and drawing closer to Anole. "Just giving Glow here a tour. Hiding in the conservatory did okay for us yesterday. Today, the lake."

"Cut me some slack, I'm only just starting out on my mission of annihilation. Plus," Anole says with a /longsuffering/ sigh, "I'm doing it on an empty stomach. It's /really/ hard to make /good/ evil plans when you've just had plain chicken broth all day." He leans back against the rocks, tipping his head back to look up at the sky. "I tried ordering pizza one time. Weirdly nobody wants to deliver to the sewers. I can't quite put my finger on why. I'm calling bigotry. -- Have you checked out the stables?" He brightens, slightly, when he asks this. "The people here can be a bit much but the horses are sweet."

"We can send someone normal-ish looking to pick it up!" Glow argues, obviously very on-board with the idea of delivery pizza-- assuming they all survive the zombie thing. Planning ahead, y'know. "I just miss... y'know, food. With, like, salt. Rations taste like sawdust and despair." She shakes her head at the question of stables. "I heard they were a thing, but-- this place has horses? Why does this place have horses?"

Rasa reaches into the satchel at hir side and brings out a tightly wrapped sandwich of peanut butter and jam in a hard roll. Ze lifts hir hand to show it to Anole before ze tosses it in his direction. "I brought in some supplies, but... things are tight everywhere and there are way too many people here." Ze glances over at Glow and considers. "Well, not just horses. You've been out here a little bit, Anole. Is Sugar still here?"

"Normal-ish," Anole agrees, scrubbing his hand over the spiky top of his head. "Masque sort of -- looks normal -- ish, if he has a big hat and you don't look under it too hard but he might do ugly things to the pizza person if they sass him..." His brow furrows the longer he thinks about this plan. "One of us," he decides, "could just put on one of those fake-nose and eyeglasses things." He seems much more sanguine about this.

On the subject of horses, though, he just spreads his hands, helplessly. And then reaches up to snatch the roll-sandwich out of the air, eyes widening in surprise. Grateful surprise. He unwraps it with a swiftness, promptly breaking it in half to offer half to Glow. "Uh -- I don't actually know why horses. To be fancier? Sugar's -- sometimes here. She's here when Mr. Jax is here. Then she goes home with him. I think she helps get past all the zombies." Glow grimaces at the mention of Masque. "Eugh. Probably..." She sighs. "Well, we'll think of something." The enthusiasm might be a little much for pizza, but any light in the darkness, right? She watches the sandwich fly with wide eyes. "Uh. They got any more of those..?" Look at her! She needs all of the carbs she can get! "Who's Sugar?" She asks, looking between them.

"Why not horses? I think Professor Xavier's just had them all his life, so why not still have them." Rasa shrugs off the question, looking toward the lake once more. Absentmindedly, ze pulls out another sandwich from hir satchel and considers quietly before handing it off toward Glow. "Masque is still with you guys?" There's concern in the wrinkle between hir brows. "Um, well, Sugar is a giant dragonfly. I haven't seen her in a bit. She might have gotten briefly scared off by the fire at the house. But she's beautiful. So beautiful. I'm sure she'd help out a lot with the zombies." Ze smiles a little and refocuses. "Apologies. I'm just trying to remember. I haven't been hom... around the Commons all the time. I've been kind of bouncing between a few places." "Why wouldn't he still be with us?" Anole lowers his hand, withdrawing the half of the sandwich that he had been offering to Glow. The other half he is hungrily starting to eat, too busy for a moment with chewing to bother talking. "Dragonflies are among the most efficient predator on earth. I don't think she's just effective at flying over the zombies, she's probably pretty brutal at getting rid of them, too."

Glow shrugs at Rasa. "I dunno, it just seems like a weird thing to... have around. I'm not saying they SHOULDN'T have horses. It's just weird." She stares down at the offered sandwhich in Rasa's hand with wide eyes. "...Thankyousomuch." She mumbles, quickly snatching the food out of hir hands and immediately starting to scarf it down. She shakes her head at Anole when he offers half his sandwich. "'m good!" She says around a mouthful of PB&J. Between bites, she pauses, and squints at the pair of them. "Wait. Really? Like... Like a giant bug? That kind of dragonfly? Where did you even..?" And where can SHE find one?

"Well, I was trying not to scare anyone with the notion of a zombie eating giant dragonfly." There's a pause, then a thought, "you think she can smell the difference between living people and the decay of the undead?" Rasa scratches the back of hir neck. "And Yes. A giant bug. One of our kind - Thea - she grew her up from a regular dragonfly. That was an odd one though - think she went a step further from the Morlock notion of a society of 'our' own -- to the idea of kicking the humans out and dominating. I... had personal issues with her. Many... Huge. Personal issues." Ze exhales and considers. "You two good? I should probably head in. Need to check in with the boss. See how he's doing."

"Dragonflies don't have /great/ senses of smell, so I don't know. Probably not? They mostly hunt by sight." At first Anole's voice is a little muffled, at least until he finishes wolfing down the sandwich roll. "And yeah like a giant -- horse-sized dragonfly. Smarter than a dog. Big enough to ride." Shrug. "The world is weird." He licks crumbs off his fingers, nodding to Rasa. "I'm about frozen but. Less hungry now."

"That is so cool." Glow whispers, utterly awed. "I mean, not the dominating humans thing. That's-- that's obviously terrible. But, I mean-- giant dragonfly. Giant, zombie-eating dragonfly. THAT part is cool..." She nibbles at the crust of her sandwich. "Oh? Oh, yeah. I think we're good. Things seem pretty zombie-free out here." She gestures out at the wilderness, probably 100% clear of flesh-eating undead. Probably. "Thank you, Rasa. For, er, being cool, I guess... And the sandwich."

"Hey, guys, watch it with the 'w' word. Just because they've come up with a new treatment doesn't mean we should be using that word all willy nilly." Rasa lifts a hand and waves, turning back toward the mansion. "Maybe try the boathouse if you want a warmer place with fewer people. I mean, I don't know, maybe it's booked solid with people. Maybe not." Ze gives a final wave before letting hir arms hang, thumbs hooked in hir belt, heading back toward the throngs of refugees.

Anole's nose wrinkles. "You /still/ can't get sick from someone who isn't sick. The words don't have some kind of -- /power/." His arms curl around himself, hands rubbing against his arms. "Oh. Warmer would be good. Warmer would be good." He unfolds, rising to his feet, the rock-grey of his skin shifting back to green as he gets up. "Though the boathouse has /couches/ and /bed/ in it so it's probably crammed full. The stables are warm, too --" This is thoughtful, now, as he looks across the grounds. "I need to thaw."

Glow shrugs. "I just hate trying to remember all of the signs. And then remembering how to spell out things I don't know the sign for. And hoo, yeah, you're probably freezing..." She pulls a sympathetic grimace for her fellow sewer-dweller. "Lead the way. I don't go to this fancy school. I don't know where they keep their boats and their giant killer dragonflies. Though that reminds me-- you still like comic books?" She pulls a rather new-looking trade paperback from under her sweatshirt. 'HORROR FROM BEYOND THE STARS.' "I, uh, found it." Read: looted.

Anole's eyes light. He leaves off rubbing at his arms long enough to reach out and eagerly nab the paperback from Glow. "Oh /man/. I found a couple volumes of this um, thing, /Incidents in the Night/? It's pretty neat so far if you want to read. Maybe I can rummage up something warm to drink /too/. Make a night of it." He even manages a little bit more animation in his sluggish motions as he starts up off the beach.

"Hey! It's mine!" Glow protests as the comic is snatched from her hands. "I'm just willing to, y'know. Share." She stuffs her hands into her pockets, trudging after Anole as he leads the way towards somewhere with a heating system. "Incidents of the-- aw, cool! Yeah I wanna read 'em!" And the hot drink sounds pretty great too. And the hanging out and reading comic books like normal teenagers. "Maybe this place doesn't suck..."
