Tall panes of glass keep this large indoor garden warm year round. Tended to by the school's groundskeeper, the conservatory is lush with plant life, a carefully cultivated paradise within Xavier's walls. The room serves as a classroom as well; in the center of the garden a ring of seats forms a small circle, a favorite locale for some teachers to hold court. It's the last week of classes before exams start, now. There's not quite the same stressed and harried atmosphere around school during summer session cram periods that there is when school is in regular session; fewer students on campus altogether, fewer of the ones who are living there actually /taking/ a full course-load. But even so, there are some who are quite engaged in studying -- and some just stressed with the general aura of /harried/ that has taken over since the school made its announcement about its impending Outing. Whatever stresses and worries may be dominating the campus outside, though, in here, at the moment, things are quiet. Peaceful. Perhaps it's the plethora of growing plant life to blame for the tranquility -- or perhaps the mellow strains of classical music currently drifting, soft and serene, through the indoor garden. Beneath a lemon tree, one tiny sharkpup (dressed neatly as ever: crisp trousers, pinstriped white-on-white, and a mandarin-collared short-sleeved buttondown with faintly pearlescent vinework embroidery) has his violin tucked beneath his chin, eyes closed as he plays. Rasa is drawn in by the sound of music, the notes guiding hir steps into the verdant space and edging hir in further. Ze is wearing a pair of loose sweat pants with the draw string done up tightly enough around hir waist to keep them from falling down. Over the top, ze has an oversized tee shirt. Swaddling hir fore arms, white gauze. Ze steps further into the room, bare skin padding lightly against the stone floor. Ze only pauses momentarily before hopping onto the partition and continuing on to the lemon tree to drop into a seated position as an audience to Shane's concerto. Coming from outside, Jack's quiet as he enters the conservatory. Shorts, a plain red t-shirt, and old sneakers are his clothes today and they're damp from the rain and a bit of sweat. The music catches his attention as well and he wanders towards it. He slows when he gets closer, not wanting to interrupt the performance as he takes a seat to listen as well. A sleeve lifts as Jack offers a quick wave of greeting to Rasa. Shane's nostrils flare, head turning just slightly. One sniff. Two. His eyes don't open. The music doesn't pause, webbed fingers continuing their nimble movement against the strings as the music fills the air. "Supposedly," his voice is quiet, too, perhaps so as not to drown out the music -- or perhaps just with his current concentration, "-- music can charm even the most savage of --" There's a pause, for a few measures. A small press of his lips. "... hearts. Do you feel more peaceful?" Rasa's skin goes from a light lilac churning with a darker brown to all brown, dark and earthy. Ze inhales when the musician speaks, a raised eyebrow creeping upward before relaxing back to neutral. Ze swallows hard and exhales, carefully resting hir arms in hir lap. "Pretty damn close to soothed," ze admits, turning to glance in Jack's direction. "Did you need peace tonight?" Jack isn't surprised that Shane has noticed them, a small unseen smile on his face. He folds his legs under himself as he gets comfortable, closing his eyes to listen. The question gets a very faint hum and shoulders rise and fall with a little shrug. "I guess I do," he replies. The collar of his t-shirt bobs slightly when he nods in reply to Rasa. "I kind of did." The music swells -- a little more /active/, though there's no dissonance to the sound, still a calm sort of energy to the melody. Rising. Falling. Tapering off, eventually; Shane lowers his bow, his eyes opening only slightly to look not at the others but up towards the glass ceiling of the room. "It's been the sort of week that needs peace. Maybe if I asked nicely, Hive would let me play for the entire world." There's a small wry twist to his lips, here. Sort of a smile. Not very /cheery/. "You would," Rasa remarks quietly, brows waggling as the toes on one foot start digging into the ground. Just a little bit. "It's a neat thought, but I'm not sure it'd be... practical." There's a pause. "Not that music screams that practicality. You having a tough week too?" There's a glance between the two figures, one arm reaching back to scratch at the back of hir neck. "Mine's been less than calm." "Practical or not it'd be nice. Whole world listening to something beautiful together at once..." Jack trails off. He shakes his head after a moment, finally looking back at the others. "Not sure if rough fits but two days in and I want it over..." Jack trails off. "What happened to make things less calm?" "Not practical, maybe, but. But maybe if everyone just took a -- a break for a bit. Had something --" There's an almost wistful tone in Shane's voice -- briefly. It vanishes when he tips his head back down, looks at the others. "Things at home have been a. Little chaotic. And /here/, shit, I kinda wish they'd just make the announcement. Get the storm /over/ with." Rasa opens hir mouth to announce hir dawning understanding, but closes it immediately after and simply nods. "This waiting for the other shoe to drop thing is driving me crazy. It would be nice if everything was over with. Then I could know for sure... Anyway - at least you have the... verdict. Sentencing? I... I hate to... but it's done, yeah? Are things maybe calming down a little?" Ze turns to focus on Shane now. "That announcement is part of it," Jack murmurs. "Gonna be more chaos. Probably a lot to get done before they can announce things but still...hate waiting like this," he agrees, rubbing the back of his neck. He falls silent and his shoulders tense when Rasa mentions the sentencing, his focus turning to Shane too. Shane spins his bow absently in one hand. "It's hard. It's been so hard for Pa. And this conviction will be on his record forever and -- and if he gets arrested at all for the next year he'll /go/ to jail, cuz, probation, and you /know/ how the cops are with him, there's no /way/ that's not painting a big-ass fucking target on his back. And with Ba..." He trails off, gills fluttering quickly as his eyes lift abruptly back to the ceiling. "S'just gonna be rough. {Sorry.}" His eyes fix back on Rasa, instead, bow flicking towards the gauze. "How's it healing?" "It's only been a day - well, not even. They're sore. Taking ibuprofen and all that." Rasa's fingers flex next to hir bandages to show just how much they itch. Hir jaw clenches as ze offers an awkward smile. "I'll heal. And there's no need to apologize. I just want you to feel... well, comfortable talking about that stuff with me. And this guy," ze jerks a thumb in Jack's direction, casting hir gaze in his direction next, "may draw some crazy guy with daddy issues. I suppose I'm going to have to nip that in the bud." Jack stays silent as Shane talks about things going on at home, eyes on the ground. His shoulders stay tense and there's a little bit of bunched fabric where he's gripping his shorts. The whole thing bothers him and its had him thinking about the attack more than he'd like. His attention turns to Rasa when the injuries come up and Jack frowns. "What happened?" he asks. There's a pause when Rasa jerks a thumb his way and the invisible teen blinks a few times. When it registers who Rasa is talking about, Jack's shoulders slump. One sleeve lifts as he reaches up to pinch the bridge of his nose. "That guy -again-? Seriously?" Shane's brows furrow. "Nip that in the bud? How are you going to do that, exactly? I mean, there's the part where he's crazy, right?" There's a small flutter of gills. "Sometimes crazy resists -- nipping." "Oh. Well. I'm not proposing that I cure him, but the guy - well, he couldn't stop asking questions about the Wolverine," Rasa might be adding a little extra emphasis and perhaps a small roll of hir eyes to that moniker, "long enough to support his girlfriend in one of her worst moments, while she was trying to kill me." Ze inhales deeply. "As much as I'd like to let him twist for that, he wants to come to the school to find Logan if he doesn't hear more about him. It probably won't help much, but at least it might keep him from coming here, after more information." "Girlfriend? Was it a woman with wings and talons?" Jack asks, wondering if its the same person he's met. "I get the feeling that the only things that are going to deal with this guy are kicking his ass or Wolverine showing up for him. I told him the last time I ran into him not to come here," he sighs. "Wings and... do you think he's considered helping her get, like, uh, therapy?" Shane's brows are furrowing /deeper/. Gills fluttering faster. "Cuz she also wants to kill B. Not a useful hobby." For a brief moment, his teeth flash in a sharp grin. "Though good /luck/ showing up at the school these days. Almost kinda be amused to see that, how paranoid-ramped-up security's gonna be. Maybe we'd get to see Hank punt him over the fence." "She... needs lots of therapy. But, I guess, getting killed will kind of ... make you hate a person." There's a good deal of confusion on Rasa's face, hir expression darkening quite a bit. Ze sighs and gnaws on hir lip, then clears hir throat. "Ha. That would be funny. I suppose Hank's trained with Logan enough that he won't mind the family resemblance." Ze punctuates this statement with a set of claws that extend from between hir knuckles. Jack looks as confused as empty, floating clothes can by Rasa's words. "Yeah..." he trails off a little awkwardly. Shaking it off, he gives a little laugh at the proposed punting. "Provided I don't send him flying first," he sighs. "Just something else to worry about next time I go out..." "Will it?" Shane looks uncertain about this. "I've been killed before. I got over it." His shrug is probably a little determinedly nonchalant. His bow twirls again, comes to rest against his violin strings, lowers once more without resuming play. "... just be careful?" Less nonchalant, now. More worried. "Both of you." "You're going to throw him?" Rasa's brow crinkles. Ze shakes hir head. Then ze reaches up and scrubs hir face. "Sheesh. Maybe you're right. I don't really need to get involved in this. Maybe I'll stay far away from all of this. Give you one less thing to worry about." "Naw just...nevermind," Jack sighs. "I'll try to be careful. And its okay. I appreciate the help. Guy's...stalkery," the invisible teen replies. "He might end up getting stalkery towards you too now," he remarks to Rasa. "Mmm." The frown isn't really leaving Shane's face, but he nods, anyway. "Okay." His gills stop fluttering. His eyes close again, weight shifting back a few steps further below the lemon tree. Bow set back to his strings once more. A different piece, now. More tumultuous. Rasa nods to Jack quietly, then turns hir attention to Shane and resumes listening, hir coloration remaining dark. Jack falls silent once more. He shifts a little to get more comfortable and settles in to listen to Shane play more. |
