"Either that or the near constant state of peril being here puts people in."

Location

<XS> Library

Xavier's librarian might hope the library is a quiet place to sit and study, but with a school full of teenagers that is not always the case. Nevertheless, it is certainly a treasure trove of knowledge, well-stocked with a wealth of books on its high shelves. Its reference section is vast, though its fiction is as well (much to the delight of many of its students.) The wide octagonal tables and smaller armchairs are often crowded with students, though the whispered conversations that often take place leave some doubt as to how much work is getting done at any given hour.

Never the /most/ popular of school hangouts, the library is quieter than usual around the dinner hour, most of the school -- students and teachers alike -- occupied elsewhere, with food only just started to be served over in the Great Hall. It's left things pretty peaceful in here, more or less; a refuge for people actually wanting to get homework done, or study, or read.

Or, in the case of one tiny blue shark, sit in an armchair in the corner and glare crankily at the screen of his laptop, muttering to himself softly -- it's not in English, though his tone makes it sound decidedly like profanity all the same. He's dressed in heavy dark boots, dark jeans, a thin grey performance athletic shirt, his X-jacket slung over the arm of the armchair he sits in; there's a sliver of bandaging poking out from under one arm of the shirt, his posture kind of stiff where he sits.

Nekara has only fairly recently arrived to the campus, and still in the middle of sorting out things like class scheludes, and as such not really having the dinner hours that well ingrained in her mind, and even if she would have, she would prefer to let the largest crowd to be done before going to get her dinner. So, Nekara is instead found from the library, reading being one of her favorite past times, although whether that is because she actually likes it a lot, or more an effect of having fairly hard time forming relations with people, she doesn't even know for sure herself. She was nevertheless quite excited to find out that there is such an impressive library in the school, and she is now walking through the shelves and taking in a general idea of what kind of things there are in the collection.

Alas poor Kisha isn't allowed to bring Bob into the library. Which means she has to carry books herself like some boring mundane person. A whole stack of college level chemistry and physics books from waist to chin which she slowly hauls towards a table. A little flying rotor drone zips around her, occasionally buzzing over to keep the space at the table claimed.

As the mad scientist dumps the stack with a thud she begins unrolling a large technical schematic. Each corner gets an open text book to weight it down and a whole lot of fussing to make sure everything lines up just right.

With only a minimum more cursing, Shane taps a rapid message out on his laptop, closing the lid with a snap. His claws click against it rapidly, eyes flicking -- kind of absently to track the movement of Kisha's drone. Then down to the paper that she's just unrolled. His brows lift with absent curiosity. Kind of slowly he unfolds himself from his seat, leaving his stuff in his chair and making his way over uninvited to peer nosily at the schematic.

It is probably not much of a surprise that Nekara's interest lays in fairly different types of books as Kisha, having picked a few from the shelves, mostly books about history and mythology, though there is a couple actual novels in the mix too, that she is carrying at her hands as she emerges from behind a corner of a bookshelf, noticing the student working on some sort of paper on the table, she makes her way over to take a closer look, although it seems Shane beats her to it, and she stops for a moment to take in the rather unusual looking form of the shark-man.

The schematic, which takes up practically an entire four person table, is more accurately a lot of schematics nested together into a single document. A 3D printer design which makes the parts for a (probably) hand sized drone, a machine which seems to assemble those parts into a whole drone and then the design for the mini-drone itself. Of course pretty much all the text is in a short-hand code that switches between Russian and English so who knows maybe it's just a really complicated magic eye picture! The one clearly legible note comes from a post-it note which says 'Would thermite void the lease? Remember fire extinguisher!'

"I'm glad I didn't take one of my work related projects out to put in any overtime," Kisha notes dryly, without actually looking up. "Or I'd probably have just lost my job. It's a shame there is no-where in this school you can expect any privacy. Except perhaps a mathematics classroom. Who would want to go there?"

"You're in the library, yo." Shane's voice is dry, too. "You want privacy, this ain't the place. I wouldn't have ratted you out, though." He's leaning against the table now, claws idly drumming against its surface. His eyes snap up when Nekara approaches. Brows lifting, nose twitching. Flat and curious: "You're new."

Nekara listens to the conversation between the two for a moment, as she gets close enough to be able to speak in appropriately quiet tone for a library. She is dressed in fairly formal wear today, gray, about knee-length skirt, a white buttons-up shirt, and a blazer of matching color to the skirt. "Good evening, students. Yes, I am in fact, I arrived just last weekend, I am Nekara Kemsit, the new history teacher." She speaks quite fluent English, though with a noticeable accent. Her unusually vibrantly green eyes study the two teens, or at least she assumes they are teens, over for a few moments, before moving to glance over the schematic on the table, though she can't really make anything out of that, so she doesn't linger on it long.

"To be fair all the Stark projects are in electronic form. So I'd be running them all in the augmented reality overlay," Kisha admits with a shrug. "I've been thinking about investing in a light industrial unit once I graduate. I can move a lot of my side projects there and it's not like I need a real apartment." She drums her fingers on the table, then begins making additions to the diagrams. "Student singular. Shane graduated already." She bites her lip, then adds a few numbers and sighs. "And hello, it's nice meeting you. Welcome to Xaviers and... all that... stuff." She doesn't actually look up, but the little flying drone zips over to look at Nekara on her behalf.

"I'm not a student." Shane's correction comes a hearbeat after Kisha already explains this. "What history do you teach? We're goddamn lousy with history teachers. Welcome, though." His brows lift at Kisha's suggestion. "Wouldn't you still want like -- a shower? Or kitchen?" His nose wrinkles. "Apartments have a lot of shit beside beds, you know."

Nekara gives a somewhat surprised look to Shane when first Kisha, and then Shane himself notify that he is not a student, as the blue-skinned mutant certainly -looks- young at least, based mostly on size since its hard to estimate age from his unusual facial features. "Thank you." is offered to both of them in response to the welcomes, before responding to Shane's question. "I am most familiar the older topics, antique age, the like, though I can certainly provide high school level education all eras given a bit of time to prepare." she explains, while her attention is drawn mostly to watching that drone a bit warily as it flies near her.

Kisha glances up at Shane and shrugs. "They have showers at work and I can get food during my lunch break," she points out. "I can also order delivery food. Which is a blessing because cooking is far more of an art than a science. Although I did work out how Bob can make Borscht that is relatively edible. He struggles with the herbs though." Her drone isn't especially close. Certainly not close enough to risk hitting Nekara. But it pulls back after a few moments. "What made you decide to come to Xaviers to teach? Ancient history seems like an odd fit."

"What makes /anyone/ decide to come to Xavier's?" Shane's shoulder hitches upward slightly. "Can't hack it in the real world, think the idea of freak school sounds like a dream. That's usually where my /first/ bet goes, if I'm feeling charitable. My second guess is often less kind." His blue lips peel back, teeth bared in a quick sharp grin. "Cooking's only an art if you're good at it. Otherwise it's pretty much chemistry."

Nekara gives a somewhat puzzled look at Kisha as she listens to her description of her lifestyle, which does not sound overly healthy to her, but she does not comment on that as its the girls personal matter, instead she replies to the question presented. "As I said, I can teach history of any era, that is simply the one I have most interest in. As to why... Shane here has the right idea. It has been quite... challenging to find work, due to my rather... unsettling effect on most people. So when I heard about this place, I made contact right away, and moved quite a long way to here where I could hopefully finally be able to actually get work matching my education." She explains, then after a pause, adds. "It does seem like many people here do not seem to be affected, which is a surprise, though certainly a positive one."

Kisha aahhhhs. "So that's what it was. I was unsure if perhaps Shane was wearing a really subtle but abrasive cologne. Presumably you can't stop? Because it's mildly annoying. Reminds me of trying to get things done when there were zombies around the school walls." She makes a few more additions to her schematics. "There are classes in meditation and other sorts of psionic resilience. Which might be why. Either that or the near constant state of peril being here puts people in." Mystery solved the little drone lands on the table. Although a camera is still directed at the new teacher.

"I don't wear cologne," Shane huffs indignantly. "I just come by my abrasiveness /naturally/." He pushes himself up straight, a faint twitch of grin on his face. "But Kisha's right, the near-constant danger around here does kind of /recalibrate/ your brain. I'm pretty sure you can't live at this school any time at all without going a little fucking -- uh, crazy." The smile curls wider. "So yeah. /Welcome/." His chin jerks upward, a quick sharp nod before he saunters back toward his chair to pick up his belongings.

Nekara blinks as she listens to Kisha's question, which reminds her of an earlier conversation she had. "Truth be told... I don't even really know exactly what is causing that effect, just that it generally makes people nervous around me, so no, unfortunately cannot really turn it off, my apologies. You look like a scientist though, perhaps you could some time do some... uhh science stuff to try to figure it out? At least that is what the nice person who gave me my initial tour of the school suggested. But, I think that would have to be later, as I need to get going or I will miss dinner. It was nice meeting you, both." is offered before she starts to make her way to the desk where she can check out the books.

"I'll be sure to buy you some for your next birthday," Kisha offers with a wry grin. "And I could try but it's probably not my field. I'm not especially interested in the biological sciences. I'd imagine it's a pheromone thing. So a few electromagnetic receptors might do the trick. If it's a psionic thing then there's very little I could do." She shrugs. "Good speaking with you both. Hopefully Bob has collected a lunch tray for me... And he has but he's got meatloaf. Eugh. You honestly can't build the staff these days."
