MUTIE-FIGHTS CONTINUE. (Part of Thunderdome.)

Location

Thunderdome

It's a warehouse, or something like it; at least it's spacious, and was probably once industrial; at the moment it's largely just empty. There are tracks in the floor from long-since disused equipment and the construction of walls and high exposed-beam ceilings is sturdy.

The center of the room has been excavated, since this place was in actual daily use. In the middle a pit has been gashed out of the concrete; it's not /deep/ and it serves more as a foundation than anything else; around its wide circular perimeter a cage has been erected. Nearly reaching up to ceiling-height, it is constructed of thick sturdy metal bars wrapped in a thinner wire mesh.

Surrounding the cage there is a lot of empty space. Some nights, though, when fights are in session, the room is filled; with people, with cameras (though no outsiders' cameras are allowed in), with paper betting slips and folding chairs. The spotlights in the ceiling are bright-bright-bright, the better to illuminate the fighters within the centerpiece cage.

Fight-night. Screaming crowds; an audience that's ready to tear someone apart - and somewhere from above, the crackling scratch of an intercom as the announcer rumbles about the next fight. The last one? They're taking the poor kid out back to be disposed of - he didn't make it. This one? They're hoping for an encore.

Marrow is shoved forward - through a series of ZZZAPs across her collar and at the end of several harsh *WHAPS* with the baton - toward the opening of the gate. One way or another, she's going in there; even if they have to zap her unconscious to do it. They're very quick to deliver those bolts of electricity - and quick to remind her that if she attacks any of them, they'll deliver a /fatal/ dose. There's always more mutant, after all.

Her opponent is getting zapped, too - but substantially less so. Maybe that's because he's old school; he doesn't seem to be /resisting/ at all. He's a big, tawny man - hairy, with a loose, sweat (and blood) stained cotton sleeveless shirt and tattered jeans; his hair's a scraggly mop of greasy strands - he looks to be in his 40s, maybe. Some scars, plenty of stubble. Not at all happy to be here. But by the look of him, he's fully intending to /walk/ out of here.

"Tonight, ladies and gentlemen," the announcer roars over Marrow's head, "we have the return of the reigning champion - VIIIIIBROOOOO! Against our newest piece of meat - BOOOOONESAAAAAAW!"

Marrow'd be Bonesaw, of course.

For her part Marrow doesn't strongly resist the into the arena process, although she does subtly make her bone spines extra sharp in the hope someone shoving her will catch their wrist on one, infact she's almost eager for a chance to see exactly what this shit hole will offer. Since her capture there has been some substantial bone growth, spines down her back and defense plating pretty much everywhere. She's even sporting curling bone spikes that jut from her head like rams horns to protect her ears.

As Marrow enters the ring she rolls her shoulders, spits on the ground and scowls at the audience as if the cage was built to keep them out and not the other way around. "Bonesaw? What kinda shitty name is that," she mutters, not that anyone can hear. Raising her voice she adds "If I fuck this loser up you gonna give me some damn cigarettes?" Pre-match formalities over she locks eyes with Vibro and grins. An expression which most definately does not belong on her bone-plated face. "Bad luck old man. I've never had to cripple someone for a smoke before, but if it's a choice between your pretty face or a hit of nicotine I know who wins."

'Vibro' responds by just -- holding both his arms up at her. Palms out, fingers spread. And shrugging. Before: *VRRRROOOOM!*

The effect is bizarre to behold; the air literally /trembles/ around the length of his arms - convulsing waves distorting the view like rising heat ripples, except horizontal instead of verticle - accompanied by this unusual /rumble/ of pulsing sound. The oscilliating wave /roars/ out in a wide, powerful arch - smashing, pummelling, and otherwise /forcing/ anything it hits backward in what seems to be - some sort of concentrated funnel of /sound/. Where it hits the cage's edges, the metal creaks and groans, the vibrating traveling up and down it's length, making the whole /complex/ shudder.

The crowd proceeds to go /nuts/. This is the sort of shit they love to see; dudes shooting SOUND-BEAMS at each other.

Well. /Fuck/. The moment both hands start going up Marrow tenses and, at the moment they level, she hurls herself diagonally forward. Pretty nimble for someone covered in bone plates. An arm plucks a smaller bone spine from her shoulder and flings it forward like a little ivory coloured throwing knife. While from the over a bone sprouts from along her arm like an inbuilt katar.

Ohfuck BONE-KNIVES. Hell yes! Crowd /roars/ with appreciation.

"Nngh," 'Vibro' manages; his hands pull back as that knife - THWUNK - right into the meat of his shoulder, protruding out like a little spine. He's already seizing the barbed chunk of bone, /yanking/ it out with a grimace - didn't get too deep but it bit into flesh, and when he draws it out, it takes some meat with it. First blood, Marrow. But as she gets closer, his other hand is drawing back to his chest - and - WHOOOM WHOOM WHOOM - that vibrating /swell/ retracts, becomes an oscilliating /shell/ around him, forcing anything in his immediate vicinity - back, /away/. The ground shakes under him; the vibration travels through the concrete and leaves the cage rattling. Taking a swing - with one vibrating hand - down like a /jackhammer/ for Marrow's head. TAKE THAT, /BONEY/.

The thrown dagger hitting is a pleasant surprise. Possibly the last of the fight as the charge for a quick win meets some kind of /vibrating air wall/. As the hand comes slamming down Marrow frantically re-enforces her head, sprouting a spikey protrusion where she expects to take the blow, and point her katar fist down at Vibros foot. Then /wham/. The world goes white for a moment as her head tries to shatter and the force of the blow slams her towards the ground. Blood already pouring from her eyes, nose and mouth. Second blood to Vibro!

"Fuck," 'Vibro' announces as his blow /hits/ - with a solid, bone-shaking THWUD - "You're fuckin' /hard/." The stilleto stab scrapes against concrete, scratching harshly over it as Vibro scuttles backward - he's no professional boxer. This is a guy who's managed to get as far as he has through sheer application of overwhelming force /alone/. Force that he is now applying as he steps back - about five feet betwee them - and extends his hands out for Marrow's (temporarily) prone body. And warms up yet another vibrating WAVE to hit her - yet again. The ranged blasts aren't as /vicious/ as those melee hits, but - he figures if he keeps slamming her into the ground, eventually? She won't get up.

Down but not out Marrow has just enough wits to roll sideways, bone spikes scratching against the cage floor, and then haul herself to her feet using the cage wall. Her bone armour visibly thickens, with the offensive spines curling around to re-enforce her torso. "Was that your best shot?" she taunts, grinning with a mouthful of blood. "It /tickles/." Not that she'll hear any responses. Or anything else for that matter.

"Nnngh. You kiss your pop with that MOUTH," 'Vibro' asks, before swinging his arms out in front of him with a deafening *CLAP* - this time, it's a sharp /burst/ that emits from the contact of his palms together - like a harsh /spear/ of vibration, no larger than a basketball, aiming to slam into Marrow's current position. If it misses - it will hit those bars so hard that the whole cage will /shudder/, spasming from the deafening voice that, for a moment, manages to even drown out the thunderous roar of the crowd.

The trouble with gesture powers is they have a pretty major tell. Something you learn to exploit when you've years of experience brawling with other mutants. Marrow shoves off the cage as the hands swing closed, already seeming to have regained a little of her previous speed, and charges. Blade arm held high she makes a few springing sidesteps over the megre five feet of distance. Then at the very last moment she dives low, using her entire body weight and momentum to try bowl Vibro over.

"Th' fuck you thi--NNGH!" Both hands /yank/ back as fast as Vibro can manage - which isn't fast enough. The vibrating force is pulled back around him - forming a powerful /sheathe/ around his body - but he's not projecting nearly enough force to shove Marrow back, not when she's coming full throttle at him. He goes down - /hard/ - head slamming into concrete with a sickening *THWONK* while the crowd around them goes /nuts/, whooping and hollering and /screaming/ for blood. "Nnnghf--*FUCK*," Vibro manages to gurgle, kicking and writhing beneath Marrow, trying to narrow that sheathe, /tighten/ it enough to - push Marrow off of him. But it's a hard sell.

Marrow digs in. Literally. Bone barbs sprout to try hook into Vibro-flesh, while the katar bone retracts. "My turn," she snarls, grabbing handfuls of hair and possibly face, before doing her utmost to slam his head into the floor again. And unless that sheathe can force her off she'll repeat the process again and again. Then maybe a fourth time for luck.

"Gngfhwaai--" THWUNK. THWUNK. *THWUNK*. The crowd's roar was deafening before; now it's a solid roar of sound - chanting - screaming - a frothing, blood-thirsty mob that watches over Marrow's attack as she sinks her /boneclaws/ into the guy, catching, barbing, /tearing/ through flesh. Skulls are sturdy instruments - but they're not /solid/. After the third blow, it's clear something's cracked; after the fourth, it's clear something has /shattered/. He makes a blubbering sound, eyes rolling back into his head; blood splatters the asphalt. His whole body's gone rigid, at this point - twitching and convulsing underneath Marrow. THWMACK!

Once the twitching has stopped in a convincing and most definately final way Marrow pauses, wipes her hands off on Vibros clothing. For what little good it'll do. Then pulls herself to her feet, tearing free all the other little bone hooks that had sprouted from her legs. "Fuck. I /liked/ these pants," she mutters, prowling around the cage in something approximating a victory lap. Mostly she's just checking nothing important is broken and waiting for the world to stop ringing like a bell.

ZZZAP. Marrow's electro-choker kicks in - a few seconds too late. Post-Vibro twitches. Meanwhile, as Vibro's fingers continue to make little spasms on the floor - bleeding out on concrete, eyes glazed, kicking and /convulsing/ - and then there's the buzzing, hinting at the end of the fight. The crowd loves it; they want more. They're shouting for an encore, chanting: 'BONE-SAW! BONE-SAW!'. The boys running the show? They're opening the gates, armed with batons and glares, gesturing violently at Marrow. Back to your cage, /FREAK/.

Marrow manages not to collapse at the shocks. Although the bone spines she had curved into armour reflexively flick out into the spikey stabby arrangement. Inconvinient, but damn does it look impressive. The guards get a /horrific/ looking smile, hands up innocently as if that takes away from the chunks of gore still hanging off the barbs, as she walks towards the gates. "Hope you didn't bet on the other guy officers."
