Hailey, Kaine, Jack

2015-02-26

Jack is asking around about his encounter with a creature in the hallways and runs into Kaine as well.

Location

<XS> Gymnasium - B1

For a mutant school, this is a pretty standard gym, even if its sturdy construction to handle mutant powers is less standard. Still, it is designed along normal lines; setup for a basketball court, standard equipment -- punching bags, rubber mats, standard assortment of balls, weight training equipment, the usual fare. It is large, and as well-appointed as the rest of Xavier's tends to be.

Hailey sat in the shadows of the Xaviers School gymnasium. In her hands a small book that she languidly flipped the pages in. She carefully closed her eyes and took in a breath. The pale girl seeming quite annoyed with the day in general. She huffs softly before returning to her book, putting one knee over the other as she relaxes back against the wall.

Jack had come down here for a quick work out after lunch so he's dressed in workout pants and a t-shirt bearing the Nightwing logo. Floating clothes. When he spots Hailey though, Jack stops mid-step. It takes him a moment to recognize who she is from the student listings but when he does, he starts heading her way. "Hey, you're Hailey, right?"

Kaine has apparently skipped lunch, because it looks like he's been down here a while. His shirt has been abandoned and he's only wearing tiny shorts more suited for the pool. The teen moves off the bench he's occupied, grabbing his shirt and a towel, though the sight of the floating clothes and Hailey stop him from heading into the locker room. Instead he's heading that way and drying off, "Hey, Hailey, Jack. How's it going?" he asks with a flash of an easy smile. "Been meaning to hit two-hundred, feel like I'm a little behind for my age group."

Hailey sighs a little as she gets approached. "I was hoping to get some reading in..." she carefully puts the book away before looking up at Jack letting her lavender eyes level where his own might be. "Hailey Star, if that's who you're looking for, then you found her. I didn't break your stuff, steal your stuff, or break into your room. So don't ask." The rebel teen gives a little breath out as she waits to see if that will make him leave.

Jack pauses when he notices how Kaine is dressed. He clears his throat, blushing faintly even if no one can see it. "Going alright. Doesn't look like you're behind," he remarks. Hailey's reply gets an unseen brow arched. "Not like I really have stuff to break or steal anyway..." he mutters. "But yeah, you're the one I was looking for. You've got shadow powers, right?"

Kaine raps his knuckles against his abdomen, "Only because I'm a swimmer." he replies with a slight shrug. "Be all skin and bones otherwise." His attention shifts down towards Hailey, head tilting slightly. "This is going to sound creepy as a motherfucker, but you have really pretty eyes."

Hailey sighs a little bit before rolling her neck slowly. "Ugh, whatever." she says towards Kaine before looking at Jack. "Yes, I have shadow powers, I can walk in and out of shadows and some other stuff, why?"

"I wouldn't stress too much over hitting a perfect number. Not like you've got weight classes in swimming, right?" Jack asks Kaine. He offers no comment on whether or not Kaine's thoughts on Hailey's eyes might be creepy though. "Well I was wondering if ya heard anything about some shadow creature stalking the hallways. Or if you sensed anything weird in the shadows if you can do that kinda thing."

"Don't be like that, not like I'm trying to get under the skirt." Kaine says with a snort. "Even if I was, a thank you wouldn't e unappreciated. Just telling you what I think, like the eyes and your hair. Been thinking of dying me, been white since I got my gills." His attention moves over to jack next, snaking an arm around the invisible teen's shoulders if he doesn't move away, "I don't swim competitively. Always hated being so skinny, been meaning to bulk up. Not so much I can't still do all the stuff I normally do. Just wanna fill out my outfits better." His brows raise a bit at the mention of the shadow creature, "Sure it's not one of the people that can make constructs or some of the mental people we have fucking with you?"

Hailey looks at her hair. "Mine's been like this forever, and if you come anywhere near my skirt you'll regret it. " she gives a quick turn to Jack as she rolls her eyes. "A Creature? Like what kind? and No I can't sense shadows." She gestures around. "Back on the creature.. we're in this thing they call a school where I've seen a fish guy, a tentacle guy, the invisible man, a girl that can explode my brain, and a number of others."

Jack's a little surprised by the sudden arm around his shoulders, light objects in the room rattling for a second. He relaxes quickly enough. "I could give you some tips the coach used to give the other guys on the football team," he offers to Kaine. "No, I'm not sure. But Shane suggested asking some people so," he says. "Yeah, I know those guys but this thing was about seven or eight feet tall, big arms, claws, messed up mouth and lots of teeth. Seemed pretty intent on trying to eat me too."

"I just said I didn't want under the skirt. You're not used to people being genuinely friendly, are ya?" Kaine asks now, giving a shake of his head before looking over at Jack. "Help would be appreciated. And if it was one of the students, administration would likely already be on that. I mean, if it was their mutation. Sounds like a person was projecting it into your mind, or we have somebody else showing up on campus."

Hailey snickers "Sure you didn't eat something wrong in the cafeteria?" She kicks her boots up a moment as she laughs before standing. "No I haven't seen it, I can't feel shadows and that sounds like someone is totally messing with you. Or it's some new freaky student..or maybe they're just experimenting on students and one escaped OoOOooOOoOO~" she smirks slightly

"I told me advisor about it and she didn't seem like she knew anything about it," Jack remarks. "Not sure if it was solid or not but I hit it hard enough to mess it up and it put itself back together," he sighs. Hailey's snickering gets an unseen frown. "Positive," he replied flatly to the laughter. "I haven't met everyone but I'm pretty sure there isn't anyone quite that homicidal here."

"With the amount of students we have here that have been experimented on, don't think that's a great thing to say." Kaine points out. "Some people have a bit of PTSD from it. I was going to head out tonight.. But I might go make a snow fort and see if I see anything like it. Both of you are welcome to come." His attention turns back to Hailey who gets a wink, "Long as you aren't worried I'll try an be /nice/ to you. Be a horrible evening then. Might even bring hot chocolate for people." his next words are to Jack, "We all know giving hot cocoa means you want to eat the booty."

Hailey rolls her eyes "No thanks instead of freezing my ass off out in the snow I'll be in my room reading or getting some relaxation time thanks." she says before looking at her phone. "Speaking of, I'm going to go now. Bye." She takes a breath and falls backwards heedlessly, instead of hitting the floor though she simply falls through the shadow and disappears.

"Yeah..." Jack trails off quietly, thinking about some of the people he knows who were in the labs. He shakes his head slightly though. "I saw the thing in the hallway. It chased me to the elevator," he explains to Kaine. The swimmer's jokes make Jack blush a bit but he doesn't comment. "Maybe. Not really into the camping out thing..." he trails off. When Hailey just falls back and disappears, Jack jumps. He stares a moment and then sighs. "Man...Shane said she was kind of an asshole but I think he understated..."

"Beautiful asshole though. Doesn't really excuse it." Kaine snorts a bit, stepping away from Jack so he can wrap the towel around his shorts. "Kind of a bummer when people don't give you a chance though, had a few records she might be interested in hearing, good Ramones and Sex Pistols records. Think I even have some NOFX or the Dwarves." A hand comes up to brush through his hair. "Anyway, been considering a haircut. About to my shoulders, leaving only the hair up top, buzzing the rest off. That way I can still wear a topknot."

"Well, one person off the list to talk to," Jack shrugs as Kaine steps away. He looks as lost as empty clothes can at the music talk once again. "I've heard of the Ramones at least...no clue on the others," he admits. He glances up at the mention of a haircut. "I should probably cut my hair sometime soon too. Getting a little shaggy..."

"Then I'll have to set up in the rec room sometime and we can bounce music off each other." Kaine suggests. "I like just about everything, be great to see what other people are into." A hand returns to his hair, ruffling it a bit. "Think I'll dye it purple. Or green. Cut it short, dye it green, show up in the Lower East Side dressed as Cokie the Clown."

"Sounds like it could be fun," Jack remarks. He doesn't have music to share but he'd listen to what other people want to share. "Purple and green are good colors, I have no idea who the clown is though."

"We'll cover that when we get to Fat Mike, the singer from NOFX. It's a punk band." Kaine explains. "Anyway, I guess I should grab a shower and head out. Think I just might camp out tonight though, see if I catch sight of whatever the hell's been bothering people."

Nodding, Jack stretches out. "Alright. I'll catch you later, Kaine. Going to get a little work out in before heading back to class."
