Emma, Parley

2013-04-16

Phone call the next day.

Location

Ring ring. Though phones don't really ring much anymore so much as trill? Warble? Deedle?

Emma's phone buzzes. There's a few buzzes before she picks up. "Frost speaking."

"I've wondered. How often do you get comments about your last name?" Parley's voice. It's slightly hoarse.

"There are a few comments from people I don't know, but I generally change the subject pretty quickly. You sound terrible. Are you coming down with something?" Emma sounds tired, perhaps a little distracted, certainly not bored.

There's a pause. No sound in the background implies Parley is indoors. "Your visitor came and spoke to me."

"Spoke?" There is a lot of silence on the other end.

"Well." Pause. "There was little actual speaking. I," there's the sound of something clicking, like a glass set on a table and then gradually orbited around its rim. And he... exhales his words, "Hhhhrather think he more came for a snack."

There is more silence that follows. "What do you need right now?" The words are direct and to the point, but the harshness is tempered a little by her tone.

"I--," the clatter of glass on table stops, and Parley's voice has an edge of caution. "-- am stable. I slipped away. I'm not sure how much I like being home, there are people here- mnh. I'll figure it out. I need you to know something."

"What do you need me to know?" Emma asks simply, letting Parley get to his point.

"When he eats them," Parley's even tenor shudders, his voice for a single moment burred and /forceful/, "he gets their memories." He breathes in, then out. "I could hear them. I can still hear them. My mind is --. Watch out for him. What he touches, he /takes/."

There's another long calculated silence. "I see." Her gears are turning. "Thank you."

"Take care, Ms. Frost."

Click. Parley hangs up the phone.
