Kate should watch where she's going

Location

<NYC> - Central Park North

Central Park North is slightly quieter than its southern counterpart, being further uptown and slightly out of the bustle of the City - insofar as one can escape the bustle of the City even here, in the acres of green and blue that make up Central Park. The reservoir is in the northern half, providing miles of jogging and biking trails along the clear water, as well as benches for people to sit and rest.

The weekend has brought a brief gasp or Spring-like weather to New York City, along with the sparkling stars hidden about for those who care to find them. On this gloriously sunny afternoon in Central Park, plenty of people are taking advantage of the early respite from winter weather to get outside - the jogging path is full of joggers, skaters, and dog walkers, while others opt to just sit and watch the bustling activities of others.

On one of the first pleasant days since arriving in New York, Kate is out for a run in the warm sunlight. Dressed in a pair of black yoga pants and a long sleeve, fitted UV protection shirt in a bright green. Her long hair is pulled back into a ponytail made somewhat messier by her recent run, showing off the tiny little star earrings she apparently found earlier in the weekend thanks to the scavenger hunts. Approaching one of the water fountains near the jogging trail, Kate slows in her run, a fine sheen of sweat glistening on her brow as she waits her turn.

Dressed for the weather with comfortable athletic pants in black with silver lines up the side, and a tight grey shirt in the weird wicking antimicrobial fiber, Corey is out to enjoy the weather. Moving at a light jog isn't too stressful for him, and he can take in the view, snow melted away from the grass, though it still wasn't exactly healthy and happy looking grass mid winter. He seems happy enough though as he goes along the jogging trail, trying to avoid the slower movers and more spastic skaters.

Kate bounces back and forth from one foot to the other lightly during her short wait for her turn to get water, though the kid in front of her decides to take some time playing in the water instead of just drinking it. Once it is her turn, she gets her drink of water, swiping the sleeve of her shirt across her lips to clear the excess water. Tossing her head and grinning, Kate turns and begins her jog once again, momentarily blinded by the bright sunlight off the reservoir. Unfortunately, in that moment, her path crosses with Corey's, and she runs smack into his chest, thankfully not having picked up enough speed to be an issue. Bouncing back from the sudden impact, Kate yelps, falling into a hurried apology, "Ach, apologies! I didn't mean to run into... you... ow."

Seeing the lines at the water fountain, Corey is about to head for it before changing his mind. Unfortunately that motion put him into Kate's path, and with the slight thud as she falls down, he blinks and looks embarassed as he kneels down and offers a hand. "Erm, sorry ma'am. Are you alright?" He frowns and looks concerned, watching her and her apologies. "Oh no, it's my fault, I should have watched where I was going."

"I'm okay, s'ok. I apologize for that, the sun was in my eyes, and oh goodness I didn't mean to..." Kate shakes her head, accepting the offered hand as she finally looks up at just who she managed to smack into. "Are you okay?" she asks, her voice trailing off, "Oh my. You are more than okay. You are... fine..." At the sudden realization of what she just said, Kate's cheeks color, and she scrambles to her feet with surprising nimbleness, chuckling anxiously, "I am so sorry, sir. I, um, right. Yeah, I should have been watching where I was running." There's a bit of a confused glance at Corey, and Kate starts to say something, but falls quiet - still blushing just a touch.

Corey works to help her up with a smile, and shakes his head. "No no, it's alright. I'm okay." He blinks then blushes at what she says to him, and watches her scramble to her feet. "Er, did you hit your head? I mean, well, I just want to make sure you're alright and stuff." He raises up from the crouching position watching her a moment, and ahems a little clearing things out. "I don't know too much yet, but I'm training for an EMT course, and falls can lead to all sorts of complications, and yeah."

"Hm?" Kate asks at the question about head injuries, shaking her head and blushing again, "Oh, no. No concussion, didn't even hit my head or anything like that." She clears her throat and smooths her hair down instinctively, offering a sheepish smirk, "Just a bit flustered, is all. Can't believe I did that. I'm just batting a thousand my first couple of weeks in New York." The smirk broadens into a smile at the mention of his training, chirping cheerily, "Oh, really? Wonderful! I'm actually an ER nurse, myself."

"Ah, yeah New York can be a bit overwhelming. I got here last year, and then there was a a crazy guy with a tank, then a zombie apocalypse, and now the worlds going crazy with magic forests and stars. And then there's all that registration stuff going on." Corey shakes his head abit and lets out a sigh. "Hopefully its not too terrible for you?" He offers a smile though as she says she is a nurse. "Oh wow, that's pretty impressive. It;s gotta take a lot of training to be able to manage that, I mean with the EMT stuff, it's mainly just keeping them alive till they get there for the worst cases."

"I missed the majority of the apocalypse, but back home in Oklahoma? Yeah, being in the ER meant I got to see the cases that were out there," Kate offers with a nervous shudder, though nodding at the magic forest, "Oh, I adored the snowpeople. Mine was a really helpful tour guide." She bounces on her toes for a moment, though it does not do much to make her that much taller. "I started training towards it when I was in college. Wasn't too much more to get the training for an ER nurse. But don't sell yourself short - you'll do what I do, but in the back of a moving vehicle, possibly. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's worth it, though I've got some funky hours right now being the new girl," Kate offers with a chuckle, grinning. She shuffles her foot against the pathway briefly, offering a smile, "Though if you need help studying, I'd be happy to help some time. Least I could do after running headfirst into you like that."

"Ah alright." Corey nods a bit, smiling at the snow people. " I studied philosophy in college. I'm back tracking in training to have a bit more of a career, just kinda want to help people out and all." Stretching a little since he's been halted from the job, he chuckles at the offer to help him study. "I don't think that would be too bad an idea. I'm going to be getting close to the ride along hours I need to do, and well I'm a little nervous. Will I be up to the task when there's actual lives on the line? Its all well and good to want to help, but well, I may just be crap at it when it comes time to see."

"I had to take a few philosophy classes, mostly ethics and stuff," Kate offers with a grin, "But I got into it for the same reason, wanting to help and heal." She sighs softly and shrugs, eyes perhaps lingering for a moment as Corey stretches. "Oh, right, ah, I'm Kate, by the way," she says with a cheery smile, extending her hand to shake in greeting, rather than as the help up this time. "I'd be happy to offer some study help. It's always good to brush up on theory before practicals," she offers, smiling up at him, "It's always scary that first time, but you're never alone. Trust me, it was a huge scare the first time I was on ER rotation in college. But that's what you study for."

Accepting her hand in his much bigger one, Corey shakes it with a smile. “Corey, and yeah, there are all kinds of classes in philosophy. Humor, ethics, aesthetics, and then there are the more boring ones related to old guys thousands of years ago and what they thought.” Nodding at her offer, he fumbles around in the weird pockets of the athletic pants till he gets out his phone. “Sure studying help would be good. At the very least I’d get to hear the more recent horror stories of the ER. Theres probably been a bunch of...different injuries at least lately.”

“Oh, I promise, I can share some stories,” Kate laughs, shaking her head and smiling cheerily, “People have been a bit, ah, star struck lately, with the most recent round of odd shiny things.” She waggles her fingers in the air and grins, “But I’ll happily share some stories.” When he goes her his phone, she grins widely, and fishes her own phone out from wherever she had been keeping it. In the largely skin tight attire, it isn’t readily obvious. She recites her number - the area code not from around here enough to go with her faint mid-western accent that sneaks into her voice - grinning sheepishly. “I work nights more often than not, but, ah, if you wanted to meet over lunch or something?”

“Just try not to have the stories too gross at first. I don’t want to know how many pieces people have come in in yet.” Corey shakes his head, then makes a face at the pun reference to the recent world. “That was bad. But yes, the contest they were doing I bet people were doing extra stupid things to collect the stars.” Putting her phone number in, he scrolls up the screen to his own number. “There we go. Here’s my number,” he says as he goes over the digits. “A late lunch is probably best. I tend to work early shifts and its kinda hard to get any serious studying in on breaks. But yeah, I’d totally appreciate it. And um, you can pick the spot, I know a big guy like me can make people a little nervous.”

“Eh, I’ll keep the gross stuff for a non-meal time. I’ve seen a lot, but even that sorta stuff turns my stomach sometimes,” Kate admits sheepishly, running a hand along her hair. “Darn, I rather liked that one. Some of the stars have been rather neat to find, though,” she offers with a sheepish shrug and non-apologetic smirk. “Still a bit new in town, so I can’t say I know of many places around town. I’ll see what’s around, and shoot you a text?” Kate responds with a bouncing nod, though a look of confusion crosses her features, “Huh? Oh, well, I suppose, possibly, but…” she trails off and shrugs, “I’ll text you, ‘kay?”

“Appreciated. I know you’re supposed to develop an iron stomach for dealing with all that stuff, but well I don’t think I have that quite yet. I know you’re supposed to smile to prevent it though.” Corey gives a nod, more reminding himself about that than anything. “I found a star in the bottom of a chili cheese dog from a vendor. It wasn’t the worst thing to find in street food at least.” He chuckles at that, and nods about the troubles of being new in town to finding places to eat. “When you find something text me yeah. I’m not too picky on what to eat at least.”
