Jack and Ash spend some time together at Coney Island

Location

<NYC> Coney Island - Brooklyn

Coney Island is a getaway without having to get away very /far/. Miles of bright sandy beaches provide lots of seaside fun in summertime, but the amusement parks are the peninsula's most famous draw. With plentiful rides and games and rollercoasters, food and snacks, shows and even the occasional circus, Coney Island has been a destination for millions throughout the years.

Saturday may not be the brightest of days, but it certainly is warm. With a high in the mid eighties, Ash has foregone a long sleeved shirt as he strolls the promenade at Coney Island. He still hasn't given up his heavy duty work trousers though, his pockets far more useful than bare calves. He has switched from his heavy boots to wearing Tevas. He is balancing a plate in one hand and attacking the powdered sugar topped funnel cake with a fork, carefully trying to extract bites without flinging the pastry off his plate.

Jack's been a bit nervous about this since asking Ash but now that he's finally out with the guy, the invisible teen's relaxed a little. He's in a pair of cargo shorts and a short sleeved button up shirt as he walks alongside Ash. He's got a pretzel in hand, bites occasionally disappearing out of it. "I've never been to Coney Island before," he remarks. "It's pretty cool."

"Yeah, well, it's fun. I mean, who doesn't like roller coasters. I mostly just think that all kids should have a chance to ride everything at amusement parks until they really don't enjoy them anymore." Ash smiles a little and stabs his fork into his pastry again. "I think mine is over cooked. They're supposed to fall apart more. So, what did you still want to do while we're here?"

"Want to stop and sit down? To make it easier to get the fork in?" Jack offers, glancing curiously at the funnel cake. When asked what he wants to do next, Jack looks around and lets out a thoughtful hum. "How about we try another ride? Like that roller coaster you just mentioned?"

Ash frowns and turns to head for a picnic table, settling onto one of the benches and setting his plate down. "Sure, we can do that, after we finish eating. I mean, unless you don't really want your pretzel as much as you want to ride a roller coaster." He glances over at him to gauge how much pretzel is left.

Jack follows, frowning to himself when he sees the frown on Ash's face. He's worried he said something to offend as he settles onto a bench too. The soft pretzel looks like its got about two more bites left in it judging by the size of the pieces disappearing every time Jack eats a little. "We don't have to rush," he says with an unseen smile. "Let's take our time and finish eating. I mean the coaster's not going to get up and walk away," he says with a little laugh. "Do you have a favorite ride here?"

"Nope. I've never been here before myself. The ferris wheel is huge! Biggest in the world, supposedly. It was fun to see the landscape from up high. Dunno if it's my favorite though." Ash continues picking at his food, without really looking up. "Do you?"

Jack listens to Ash, taking a bite of the pretzel as he does. Eyes flick towards the ferris wheel for a moment and Jack smiles. "No, no favorite for me either. They've all been fun," he replies, happy he remembered that shaking his head would be entirely useless right now. "The ferris wheel was great," he agrees.

"Well, good. I'm glad we're both equally indecisive about favorite rides." Ash inhales and stands up, carrying his plate to the trash and throwing away his remaining funnel cake. "How about we go ride. There's no point putting it off."

Jack finishes off the last bite of his pretzel, balling up the paper he'd been holding it with. "Maybe we can help each other decide," he suggests, tossing the paper-ball into the trash. "Sounds like a plan to me," he agrees, stretching as he looks around to try to find the way to the coaster. When he spots a sign pointing the way, Jack perks up and leads the way. "Let's get in line."
