Kaine Jack

((content warning: brief mention of genital piercing))

Location

<NYC> Lower East Side

Historically characterized by crime and immigrant families crammed into cramped tenement buildings, the Lower East Side is often identified with its working-class roots. Today, it plays host to many of New York's mutant poor, although even here they are still often forced into hiding.

It's warmer this early evening in New York than its been for the past several days. Warm enough to venture out among the thankfully melting snow before it got cold again later in the week. And warm enough that Jack was happy to come along when Kaine mentioned wanting to go into the city. In jeans, a hoodie, and the white coat he got from Billy, Jack's got his hood up and head down as he walks alongside his classmate. They're heading away from a tattoo palor, Jack having waited outside the entire time Kaine was in there. "So what do you want to do now?" Jack asks, hands in his pockets.

"Coffee or something wouldn't be awful." Kaine says after a moment of thought, he's wearing a NOFX teeshirt, a purple studded belt, and slim fitting jeans. He's also sporting an ebony segment ring in his septum instead of a captive bead, as well as captive bead rings in his slightly swollen earlobes. "Unless you don't want to that is. Can't believe I had to get stuck back at Xavier's, these laws are getting ridiculous. Not like my parents don't know I'm pierced." he indicates his nose with an annoyed grunt.

"Sure, want to head to Evolve? Or risk one of the carts?" Jack asks, nodding slightly towards one of the coffee carts on the street. "I can't believe you got stuck at all," he says, shuddering slightly. He's not a fan of needles. "Lots of laws around here are dumb as hell."

"Suppose Evolve. Heard the name around, but never been there." Kaine nods slightly, hands finding his pocket. "And I have two more things I'm definitely getting pierced. Hopefully in a more sanitary environment, I'm gonna be really bummed if this gets infected."

"Really? It's Shane's place and awesome," Jack replies. He pauses, glancing up at Kaine. "I'm afraid to ask," he begins. "But what else are you piercing?" he asks. He's trying to get better at 'prying' and being social so he's asking.

"Tongue is the next one. Definitely waiting until I can get it done professionally." Kaine replies, pausing as well so he doesn't leave Jack. "And probably why you were afraid, but a prince albert, as opposed to getting a shaft piercing. That's once the tongue is healed up though. And I didn't know Shane had a place, that's cool. May have to talk to him to see what it's like being a business owner."

Jack winces at the mention of the tongue piercing. That one's bad enough. It takes him a moment to process what Kaine's second choice is and its too bad that Jack's face is invisible since his expression goes from confusion, to realization, to looking vaguely sick in a priceless manner. "Oh dear god. Needles...there...," he breathes out, quickly lifting one invisible hand to scrub at his equally unseen face. "Yeah...yeah talk to him about being a business guy..." he trails off.

"I hear it isn't that bad. Sharp pinch is the worst of it." Kaine assures Jack. "And was considering opening a place and fixing vehicles. Nice mutant friendly shop, since not everybody walks." He reaches up to brush his hair out of his face. "Now let's go get coffee and chat up college people."

"That's not helping," Jack shudders again. "Needles," he shakes his head, stuffing his hand back into his pocket. "So a mechanic's shop?" he asks, trying to get away from the piercing subject. "Don't you have to like...get a license to do that? Or something?" he's curious about it too. "There's more than college people to chat up, Kaine," he chuckles. "Plenty of people from school go there. And just people like us in general."

"Fair enough. No real point in chatting anybody up, they'll know if we sneak anybody into our dorm." Kaine allows before adding on, "And you might. I know enough to get paid for it already. Can make some shit too, got a spare tire and stuff to make a frame in the workshop and I can make a tricycle. Hits thirty or so, but no clutch or break. Can put them on, but you don't really need them."

Again there's a pause and then Jack sputters a little. He's blushing too but that can't be seen. "I thought you just...oh man...yeah, they'd know. And it'd be really against the rules to tell anyone about the school too," he says, flustered. "Okay, I kind of want to see that thing but what do you mean you don't need breaks?"

"I'm just fucking with you anyway, hadn't planned on trying to pick anybody up." Kaine flashes a slight grin at that. "And it'd be another student I was talking about. But I'm sure they watch to make sure we don't bring girls over. And you don't need brakes as long as your careful, can just shut it off. I'd definitely attach them before I let anybody run around school on one."

Jack clears his throat a little, still blushing. "Yeah...I wouldn't be much help getting girls anyway..." he trails off. "What about like...inertia? Wouldn't that be a problem no matter how careful you are?"

"It is a bit of an issue." Kaine nods. "You'd have to turn it off a decent ways back from where you wanted to stop. Especially with it all slushy out here. And I'm not real great at it either, probably wouldn't do it if I could. More of a relationship guy, too jealous to hook up."

"Yeah, the slush is a pain for walking too," Jack remarks, kicking an ice ball into the snow pile it had rolled off of. "I'm no good with either," he adds. There's a long pause before Jack speaks again. "And I uh...I'm not into girls."

"I put that together when we were talking about being naked." Kaine says with a wave of his hand, "Don't bother me none. Why I said people instead of girls." He flashes an easy wink Jack's way. "And I'm fine with the slush. Then again, it feels pretty great out here to me too."

"Wait, you did?" Jack asks, wondering if he was being more obvious than he thought. He let out a breath of relief at the wink though. He was still getting used to actually talking about that kind of thing and not getting a bad reaction. "Hey," he says after a moment. "If this weather's real good for you...is summer going to have the opposite effect? Like are you going to camp in front of the A/C?"

"Once it gets over eighty, I'm miserable. So probably going to be in the lake a lot." Kaine nods. "Haven't had to deal with a whole lot, but being out here It'll probably get hotter than that. Hope Tristan doesn't mind the cold, because I plan on keeping the room cold. Or sleeping on the lake. Either or."

"That might be something to talk to him about soon," Jack replies. "He didn't seem bothered by the weather so maybe he won't mind the cold," he add. "Are things going okay with you two? Not wanting to kill eachother or anything?"

"Nah, I don't play my music loud, and he doesn't spray things. So we haven't had any problems." Kaine reaches up to tie his hair back, watching a group wander past. "Gonna be a lot more crowded when it warms up. Got another break coming up soon too, don't we?"

"Good to hear," Jack replies. "Out here? Probably," he says. "Uh, yeah I think we've got a break next month," Jack replies, making sure his hood is still up. "I'll check when the exact date is when we get back. Hopefully it isn't a really long break."

"Think classes end in a few days. But it might be a week or two more, then it's a week break." Kaine replies, scratching his cheek. "Hopefully fabrication and mechanics are open when new classes come around. Hit up a yoga class too or something." His shoulders raise and fall in a slight shrug. "Definitely gotta see about getting into the robotics club with B and Kisha."

"Have you seen some of the robots they made?" Jack asks, perking up. "It was...strange but cool," he laughs. "One of them was a tank. Can you believe it?" the invisible teen asks. "And those dragon flies of B's are pretty cool too."

"They are pretty awesome. Won't ever be on their level, but it'll be nice to learn a little bit of it." Kaine shifts a bit as his attention is stolen by something (or someone), but it quickly returns to Jack. "I mean, I could definitely put the robot together and wire it.. But if it's not remote controlled, I probably won't be able to make it. Mine will look like robot wars, instead of a bomb disposal bot."

"Do better than I ever could," Jack replies with a shrug. "Best I can do is put together LEGOs," Jack glances in the direction Kaine does but ends up shrugging again. "Maybe the three of you could work together on something. Even if its just some project for fun."

"I just like getting out and doing stuff. Kisha is pretty awesome, and B seems cool. Might be able to talk them into making me a breather or something so I can swim in the pool without covering my gills." Kaine reaches up to rub near his gill. "Chlorine burns like a motherfucker.

"If anyone can, it's probably them," Jack replies. He looks curiously at the gills and glances around to make sure they haven't attracted any unfriendly attention. "Can't say I know how that feels. I like the pool though, always liked to swim and water kinda...helps people see...y'know."

"Water and snow." Kaine dips his head in a slight nod. "Help see you, that shit's gotta suck. Anyway, you got any plans coming up? And I was watching reruns of Wild n' out on the internet, because why the fuck not. One of the comedians from that shows up in that anti-smoking commercial. But you only see him like twice, and he's only on screen for a second or so. I think it's hilarious."

"Yeah, it does," Jack shrugs it off though. "Not really. I tend to plan things as I go usually. Still getting used to being able to make real plans. I mean I feel like I should be used to it but I'm still adjusting," he admits. "Wild n' Out? What's that? Never heard of it before."

"Comedy show on mtv hosted by Nick Cannon." Kaine explains. "Some of it's great, but a lot of it really isn't. Rather watch Robin Williams stand up, he was a lot better. And I have no idea what I'll be doing. Probably the gym and the workshop. May come back and see what's up out here."

"Huh. Maybe I'll check it out sometime," Jack replies. "I'll be spending time in the gym too. Got to make sure I'm back in shape for football," he grins as he says it not that its visible. "I don't really care for sports." Kaine admits. "Anyway, let's get some coffee and head back before curfew."

Jack nods and looks as surprised as empty clothes can. "Oh yeah," he laughs. "Forgot all about that. Let's go," he agrees, starting to lead the way.
