An attempt to get sandwiches..goes terribly wrong.

Location

<NYC> Zabar's - Upper West Side

Zabar's is where those in the know go to get their bagels and lox. Arguably the most famous (and best) Deli in Manhattan and continually operated by the Zabar family since 1934, Zabar's is now one of the largest supermarkets in New York City, jam packed with great food at good prices.

It's cold and overcast in NYC tonight, close to freezing. As such, many people can be found inside various establishments, Zabar's included. Sage is currently here, waiting in a line at the deli part itself, wearing an XS jacket hoodie, hood down, t-shirt underneath, thick jeans, and boots, her red tinted glasses resting over her face and blocking her blue eyes from being seen. Her black hair is short as usual, and she rarely moves, only to go forward, but other than is pretty still.

Anette looks a tad underdressed for the weather compared to everyone else but she's still bundled up and looks comfy. She steps in the door, quickly closing it behind her, wearing a thick leather jacket, t-shirt underneath, grey skinny jeans, and leather boots. She takes off a wool blue hat and gloves and shoves into her pockets. The jacket stays zipped though, even as she makes her way inside. She looks around, quickly scanning over the faces in the crowd before making her way to the line, keeping to herself the entire time.

As she glances at the various people around, her eyes stop at Anette, who ends up right behind her. Without even turning to her, Sage speaks. "Hello Anette. Long time no see.". The back of the jacket possesses the XS logo on the upper right shoulder, which should explain why Sage knows her. "You do know this place has a disposition, yes?". This comes more quietly. "Be careful.".

Anette gives Sage a strange look, unsure why the stranger is speaking to her so frankly. Her features relax a bit at the recognition of the logo. "Right...you..." she says, not quite completely recognizing the other girl but...eh, close enough. "I am aware." She leans in a bit close and lowers her voice. "I just came here for a sandwich. I dare someone to start something."

"I am Sage, in case you forgot, which you most likely did. Class of 2007.". Even though Anette didn't ask. "Picking a fight with bigots is not the best idea. In fact, it is what they tried to teach us against.". Sage sighs, finally turning to face her, as the line advances. "What has life brought to you? I currently teach at the school. And I am currently also here for a sandwich.".

Anette looks over Sage briefly, before nodding slightly. "Ah, right, I think I remember you. We only overlapped a year." She can't help but smirk slightly at Sage's next comment. "Like I said, I'm just here for a sandwich. I'll try not to pick a fight but I will must certainly end one. With style, too. The school may have tried to teach me but it didn't go over very well." She unzips her jacket slightly. Perhaps you remember the wings she likes to tuck away, though she rarely hid them at school. "Oh, I'm just floating around, trying to find my place in the universe. Teaching huh? I could never do that but to each their own."

Sage definitely remembers the wings. It's her gift, after all. She remembers every encounter with Anette she ever had. "Yes. I do remember you vividly though that is my own talent. I do not forget.". Line goes up /just/ an inch further. "Ending a fight will only make you seem guiltier to the others, and as such make you more hated.". Sage's voice is as emotionless as ever as she says this. "Teaching and another non-paying job to help people. Volunteer work. I think you would remember what I am talking about.". Sage glances around, before a /brief/ smile. "Finding your place in our own universe is not easy. You cannot soar without a leap, after all.".

Anette nods and chuckles. "Ah, that's who you are. I don't think I ever caught your real name in school, I just called you Memory Card in my head." No one said she was creative or clever." She scoots up that /just/ inch with the rest of the line. "End the fight enough times and eventually they learn not to start them. Maybe I'm just overly bitter of the world---scratch that, I know I'm overly bitter. But I've long since given up playing by...certain rules. Time for me to play by mine." She rolls her eyes slightly at Sage's reference to her 'volunteer' work. "Right, now, -that- I most definitely could never do."

"My real name is Tereza Sage, as of Monday.". Ah, court system, have to love you. "Tessa for short. Though Sage itself also works.". Another /very/ brief smile, then fade. "Very well then. What works for you, works for you. And what works for me, works for me.". Sage is glancing ahead at the line, which is getting shorter and shorter with each step. "It takes a certain dedication to do such a feat.".

Anette raises an eyebrow curiously. "As of Monday? Why the change?" she asks, tilting her head. She doesn't get much of an answer as she's suddenly pushed forward. It might have been a drunk, an innocent trip, or just somebody really impatient. All she knows is someone pushed against her hidden wings (rule number 1, don't mess with her wings), caught her by surprise (rule number 2...), and caused her to stumble into the person in front of her. Caught off her guard, without thinking, she twists her neck roughly 180 degrees, facing the man behind her and screeches angrily, much like an owl. She glares, twisting her head back as if nothing has happened. She is, however, very much on guard now, as evidenced by her casually unzipping her jacket fully, in case she needs her wings.

Being the person infront of Anette, Sage is stumbled upon, and observing the situation, quickly /sidesteps/ out of line. "Anette. Calm down.". Though Sage says this, her body position is effectively that of a defensive one, in case anyone gets..frisky. At the sign of the pretty obviously mutant, staff is coming forward, as some people start showing some pretty obvious disgust towards Anette, and a few actually begin heading towards the man Anette screeched at, obviously angry and possibly looking for a fight of their own, shown by a bit of clenched fists amongst a few of them. And they're approaching her, slowly, asshole-y?

Anette holds her stance in line, a grim, determined look on her face emphasizing this. "I'm just here for a sandwich..." she says, loudly but firmly. "I would suggest for your own health and safety that you don't do what you're all thinking," she warns, her hands carefully reaching behind her back and slipping underneath her waistband. Yep, hidden knives. She glances towards Sage, getting a quick overview of their current situation, with a quick glance towards the ceiling to judge how much height she has to work with. This is probably not going to end well.

No, it won't. As she is reaching behind her, one of the guys takes this as a threat, and comes /at/ her. Meanwhile, staff has decided to go and call the police, which Sage spots, as she comes closer to help Anette. But first, speaking to her glasses. "ATHENA, panic.". And then, her body is shifting, hands in the air, defensive position. And then she's speaking towards Anette. "One coming at you is drunk. One on the right has a slight limp in the right leg. One on the left is completely normal from what I can tell.". And then Sage is side stepping to cover more room.

Anette swivels her head around, quickly getting a near panoramic view of the deli. She, too, notices the three approaching her. She pulls her hands away from her, settling for weaponless for now. She takes limp first, using an old-fashioned sweep kick to on his good leg, forcing all his weight on the bum one. For the drunk, she settles with a classic punch to the face. She saves the best for last, skillfully slipping her jacket off her shoulders and revealing her wings. Stretching them out, she takes a good strong beat, lifting herself a few feet off the ground, taking the opportunity to kick him in the stomach forcefully with both legs. She quickly lands and pulls her wings back in, tight to her body. "Anyone else?" she taunts, perhaps enjoying this a little too much.

People themselves are starting to panic, and another is coming from behind Anette to try and take her /down/, but Sage intercepts this by grabbing his arm, much less painful force and taunting, instead going for a simple takedown. Meanwhile, police will most likely be arriving soon, but Sage isn't heading for the exit. She's keeping her position in case more come and try and assault them, definitely having made herself known as an enemy. "This was not a good idea.". At this point outside, a man is slowly coming towards the store, dark hair, slightly floppy ears, facial hair, sharp teeth. Gray peacoat, jeans, boots. And then he's entering the store, heading straight towards the deli when he spots the commotion.

Anette twists her head to her five o'clock and screeches again, this time at someone who had attempted to sneak up on her, before delivering a well-placed roundhouse to their stomach. She reaches behind her and pulls out the knives, finally, holding them defensively, backing up closer to Sage. She doesn't seem overly worried by the commotion though, turning to Sage with a grin. "Why? We just wanted food. They started it." You're never too old to channel you're inner third grader. Like Sage, Anette doesn't seem to worried about leaving either, though that's many because she seems to be enjoying herself.

Sage is perfectly capable of holding her ground with her bare hands, luckily, as now the crowd of bigots are picking on her as well, 'defending' the fallen. Sage is in stride, as sirens begin blaring outside. "That is why this is not a good idea.". Meanwhile, the scruffy man, Benjamin, is rushing forward, taking down a guy coming behind Sage with a strike of dog-like claws, his natural red eyes glaring. "Sage, what the fuck is going on?". Sage sidles closer towards Anette, as she responds.

"Barghest. Right on time. This is Anette. She used to be a student. To brief you quickly, the police are on their way and bigots are currently trying to take us down.". And she's saying this as she's taking a guy down herself. Benjamin grunts, before getting into his own defensive manuever, a loud howl that scares off a couple of the attackers.

Anette watches as two employees approach her, beating her wings again and getting a few feet of air before aiming two stiff kicks straight for their faces. "Right, maybe we should get a move on..." she says, landing against, just in time to duck a punch and shoulder-check him to the ground. She watches the assistance join them, before grinning. "Pleasure to meet you. It was just a simple misunderstanding," she replies, spinning her head and screeching loudly to the attackers running away.

As the attackers run out, the /cops/ are running in, guns out due to MUTANTS. "Freeze! Hands on your head!". After knocking one of the last off of her, Sage is putting her hands on her head, Benjamin doing the same. "ATHENA, lockdown.". And then her glasses shut off, a deep breath as her and Benjamin both kneel. Running would be stupid, after all. Benjamin grunts. "They attacked them first.". The officer simply looks at him and his obvious mutantness in disgust and goes to handcuff them, as the others begin to approach Anette.

Anette turns her head towards the door, though not the rest of her, as the officers rush inside, her wings still stretched out, ready for take-off. Her eyes sparkle, caught up in the fight, as she seriously contemplates running. But even she is aware wings and knives are no match for guns and she reluctantly tosses her knives to the ground. She folds her wings in and kneels to the ground, hands on her head. "God dammit..." she mutters under her breath, glaring at those around her. "Fucking humans..."

The police cuff Anette, taking her off as well with Ben and Sage, as several other officers deal with the assholes who got their asses kicked. I guess this means no sandwiches after all.
