Ivan, Shelby

2013-04-20

Ivan waylays Shelby after their DR session.

Location

<XS> Girls' Hall - FL2

The girl's dormitory is more densely lined with doors than the main thoroughfare, nearly all of which sport some kind of bulletin or dry-erase board, or some manner of poster. This hallway is slightly neater than its counterpart across the way, the door-hangings packed full of scribbled notes and responses, a slew of conversations traversing both sides of the corridor.

Friday night. Students who have left for the weekend have mostly done so by now, leaving those who haven't behind in a somewhat more subdued atmosphere, though there are some who seem to liven up either way. But Ivan is not one of them. He's been wandering around somewhat restlessly, looking here and there and /everywhere/ as he does so, like he's being chased! Or maybe looking for someone in particular that he had been chasing before but lost track of.

But despite his hastiness, his pace slows when he enters the hall to the girls' dorms. He might be looking for someone, but this-- still feels like a place he doesn't belong. Unfamiliar ground. So clean and tidy. His beeline turns into meandering, and his eyebrows press together uncertainly. Helloo?

Shelby intends to be leaving. She has /things to do/, and those things involve going out, hopefully getting drunk, and maybe venting some of her residual adrenaline in dancing. To that end, when she bursts out of the door of her dorm room, she is dressed up! Sort've. Sea-form green short fluttery dress, hair drawn back from her face in thin braids, /make-up/. Just ignore the Converse sneakers, the old skateboard, and the ratty backpack over one shoulder. Of course, all forward progress comes to a screeching halt when Ivan is spied. So much so that the bag thumps her back. Ow.

She eyes him for a moment. Then she tosses her chin and adopts a stance with hip slung out to the side. "You know you're not supposed to be over here, right? Without someone with you?"

Shelby! Ivan's steps increase in speed and he nods.Twice, thrice. A momentary look of satisfaction at having found her is quickly replaced with the concern from before. His gaze trails off to the left as he walks, as if his own shadow had just spooked him a little, before coming to rest on Shelby again. "I..." Again, he looks to the side, though to the right this time. "I wanted to make sure?"

"Sure of what?" Shelby hikes her eyebrows up. "That I wasn't hunting that bitch down or something? Jesus, Ivan." Given the way her jaw is jutting out, she is probably deliberately misunderstanding--and challenging him to say different. What's he gonna do, huh? Huh?! She shoulders the bag up a little bit but doesn't try to brush past him. Yet.

Ivan is going to do SO MUCH. He's /bracing/ himself and taking a deep breath and it's totally going to happen. He's gonna talk back, Shelby. It's going to be glorious.

"That-- you..." He stops. Just stops, somewhat blankly observing Shelby's face and bodylanguage for a second or two. Then, mouth twitching a little uncomfortably as if mentally supressing something it may do otherwise, he adds, "Are you going away?"

"What?" The outburst isn't /quite/ as shrill as it could be--okay, so the thought did cross her mind. Doesn't mean Shelby isn't all too willing to make grumpy face at Ivan for bringing it up. "Fuck no! You think I'm gonna let her scare me off? Screw that. I'm heading to Doc's for the weekend. Gonna go...dancing or some shit. I dunno." Her eyes fasten on his mouth. Suspiciously. "What're you thinking?"

Cue Ivan biting the inside of his cheek in a failed attempt to pull his expression back into the neutral zone, however subtle the signs may be that his brain clearly is not. His own eyes stay on Shelby's, narrowing ever so slightly. "I don't like that you are unhappy."

Oddly enough, it is this neutral expression of concern that gets Shelby to pause. Surely it is not the first time someone's expressed the same sentiment. But the /way/ he says it... She stops. She squints at him. And then she grimaces. "Yeah, well...it's not like we can /do/ anything about it, right? This time of year is always shitty, I dunno why. I'll be fine, okay?" After another brief pause, she reaches out to...poke him in the shoulder. Poke. "Seriously."

The poke is met with some confusion, initially. Ivan follows the finger to stare at his own shoulder, then back at Shelby. It prompts an uncertain and slightly lopsided smile that he may not even be properly aware of why it's there. And then he nods, exhaling sharply in what may or may not be relief before moveing aside and lifting an arm to gesture toward the hallway leading to the elevators. Out you go.

For all of this, Ivan receives in turn...quirked eyebrows and a look that could be translated to 'Dude you so /weird/'. But ever so briefly, before Shelby can hide it by ducking her head and shouldering up the bag again, her lips crook in a faint smile too. Out she'll go. Though she does pause, near the elevators, in order to call back, "Next time you wanna cheer me up, gimme /chocolate/."
