Blink, Katherine

Halloween

"In any case, I'm much obliged, zombies are such a nuisance. Do have some candy."

Location

<XAV> Danger Room - Xs Sub-Basement

The room is large and circular, a geodesic hemisphere of hexagonal ceramic panels. It is the Danger Room, and is thus often full of danger, but is presently not in use and is thus remarkably danger-free. Safest room in the school, probably.

Or at least, it had been fairly danger-free until the X-Men stepped inside. Now they find themselves standing in the midst of a large courtyard where at least a dozen zombies have just now noticed their presence and are shambling their way with arms outstretched and dead hands grasping.

Blink is looking around her in some surprise. She's dressed in her X-uniform, pink-and-black hair bound up into a tight bun at the back of her head. "Oh crap, I was expecting the haunted house," she says, eyeing the building on the other side of the undead horde. "I guess the haunted house is there and we have to clear a path to it? Remember to steer clear of my portals while they're opening." As if to demonstrate this, she drops a portal directly on the nearest pair of ghouls before closing it, leaving them neatly cut in half around the midsection.

But the top halves are still crawling toward them!

Katherine found herself in one of her first training sessions in the Danger Room with a fellow X-Man, Blink. She was grateful that she was able to fit in a training with another person so that she could become more familiar with her teammates' various skills to better know how to manipulate her own. Much like her peer, She was also wearing her X-uniform but instead, her long red hair was tied into a secure ponytail. Katherine's brow raised at Blink as she realized that they weren't exactly in the place that she expected but, relaxed a bit when she realized that this was also a part of the training.

She took note of Blink's warning of her portals before chuckling at the ghouls who had lost their bottom halves but still pursued them at an immensely slow pace. " Sure thing. . . it's nice to know that these guys are so persistent, aye?" Katherine replied before taking a deep breath and forcing out two balls of purple telekinetic energy that each knocked off their heads, causing them to stop completely.

"You can tell I've been slacking on my scary movies," Blink says, "guess it's headshots only." She leads the way across the courtyard, neatly beheading the next zombie with a smaller, tighter portal, but the remaining corpses are converging on them and there will soon be too many much too close to pick off in ones and twos. "At least they're not fast zombies," she mutters. "Wanna see how alert they are?" She opens a portal beside herself and waves Katherine with her before hopping through and out the identical one that had appeared on the other side of the shambling horde.

She laughed at Blink's comment on the scary movies. Katherine's favorite movie genre happened to be horror and she definitely could fit this session into a good horror movie. " Nice." She would say with a nodding of her head, watching Blink's high precision with the portals. The red-head had also noticed the growing numbers of the undead as she looked over and noticed that Blink had formed another portal and had waved her over. "Sweet. . let's do it." She'd say as she hopped into the portal and suddenly found herself coming out behind shortly after Blink. Katherine couldn't believe how many time continuum rules she had just broken but it was so cool that she was able to experience this.

The zombies are apparently not the most alert. The moment Blink's portal dissipates, they look somewhat at a loss as to where their meals have gone. As a group they trundle to a stop and mill more or less in place aimlessly. Blink wastes no time and decapitates the three zombies closest to them, in the back of the herd. Their bodies hit the ground with muffled thuds and a fraction of a second later, their heads land in front of the group of zombies out the other end of the portal that had ended them. This attempt at a distraction is not enormously successful since all four remaining zombies had already turned and saw the X-Men and once again start shambling toward them. "Guess I should have gotten the ones up front instead," Blink laments, backing up again.

Katherine watched the zombies as the reacted to their sudden disappearance with a shake of her head. It was almost sad at how confused they were. . . like watching a sad puppy. She watched as Blink proceeded to take out three zombies at the back of the herd and suddenly their remaining numbers had realized where they were and found themselves back on task. Slowly did the 4 zombies stumble towards them as Katherine joined Blink her backwards retreat. "It was a great plan in theory! Perhaps it was just a fluke." Katherine replied before looking up and noticing some dead trees. She'd raise her hands as two decent sized branches broke off and she began to smack them around like pin balls with her telekinesis, with only two getting back up from their feet when she had to release the branches.

"Oh, nicely done!" Blink says enthusiastically, finishing off the last two with a pair of portals -- or, actually just two halves of the same portal as it turns out, since each zombie's head falls out the end where the other's body drops. She turns slowly on her heel and looks around. "I think that's all of them. Guess we should still check out the...maybe-haunted house?" She shrugs an exaggerated shrug and leads Katherine up the steps to the dilapidated mansion.

The heavy front door swings open with a creeeeeeak before she has a chance to reach for the baroque knocker, and for a moment only darkness greets them. Then, fading out of the shadows, is a person with a white sheet draped over their head, two holes cut for their eyes, which glitter with mirth. In their (sheet-covered) hands they are carrying a big orange bowl of candy. "Well, I'm not sure what either of you are supposed to be, but good job cleaning out my yard, there!" They speak with an English accent, and upon much closer inspection, their actual body under the sheet (wearing formal and old-fashioned clothes) is slightly translucent. "In any case, I'm much obliged, zombies are such a nuisance. Do have some candy."

"Thank you." Katherine would say with an accomplished grin as she felt that she was making a few good first impressions on the team. She covered a visual scan over the area as Blink was doing so. "Yes, we cleared them out. We are a pretty good combination; You open the portal and I'll pop 'em in like poptarts." She'd reply with a soft laugh before nodding and following Blink up to the haunted house. "Geez, do you think that they get the HGTV channel in here?" She'd ask Blink softly just before the door opened and some being spoke to them as if they had killed weeds. Katherine raised her arched brow in skepticism as she contemplated taking some of the candy. . . were those Twix bars? "Trick or treat?" Katherine would say before reaching in and pulling out a few Twix, Snickers and Sour Patch Kids. She found herself excited for a moment but then she realized. . . this was the Danger Room. . . she wouldn't be able to eat these from the simulation. . . or would she?

Blink blinks hugely at the sheet ghost. Her "Trick or treat?" sounds just as unsure as Katherine's and comes a beat later as she very hesitantly grabs a handful of candy for herself. "Thanks...?"

"Happy Halloween!" The ghost says as they fade into the darkness again. A moment later a computerized voice says "end simulation" and the world around them wavers and fades as well, leaving the well-lit gray interior of the Danger Room proper. The two women find themselves standing near the center, still holding their respective candies. A few steps away from them is the big orange bowl the ghost had been holding, still full of candy.

"Well, that certainly was a delightful little twist." Katherine said in relief as she realized that her candies were real. Perhaps Xavier had this added into the simulation program some how. With a pocket full of candy, the red head turned to Blink and smiled, "Thank you so much for this. I haven't really used the Danger Room prior to this; this being realistic is certainly an understatement." She would say before realizing that she also should formally introduce herself. "My name is Katherine but my code name is Amethyst. . . nice to meet you."

"Of course, it was a pleasure! To be honest with you, I wanted to get a session in today because I knew there'd be a special simulation." Blink pockets her candy as well and starts to unwrap a mini Kit Kat bar. Then stops mid-motion, looking up startled at Katherine. "Oh!" There's a long delay after this, her expression blank and confused. "Yeah, I remember, but uh...I'm Clarice. Everyone calls me Blink, though -- sorry if that was confusing." Another pause, but short enough this time that it isn't quite so awkward. "It was nice training with you, and I'll see you around!" She waves at her teammate with the chocolate bar, flashes a bright smile, and steps sideways into a portal that opens beside her.

Katherine found Blink to be rather interesting and was happy that her team was taking really nicely to her being incorporated into the fold. " It's nice to actually get a chance to talk to you and I'll see you around!" She would say with a waved as she watched her walk through a portal, leaving her in the empty Danger Room. She gently tapped a candy bar on her hand as she looked around for a moment before exiting through the sliding door.
