Valentine's Day

Teenage insecurities and what to wear!

Location

Shane and Sebastian's Room

Rasa is in one of the dorms in the boys wing! The Scandal! The poor student was dragged to this room after classes, only partially willingly. It wasn't /actually/ nonconsensual, but there is an air of discomfort that follows Rasa around as ze looks around the room, draw particularly to the works of all on the wall as well as the bone sculptures. Ze sighs as ze tears hir eyes away from one and glances at hir host. "They said that attendance wasn't mandatory. Is it really that much fun to go?"

Shelby doesn't have classes yet! Instead she's been subject to the torture of placement testing. It is not very /long/ torture and her remaining hours have been spent exploring the nooks pointed out to her by Shane, or wreaking isolated havoc in the art or music rooms. For a teenager accustomed to the city, this has been a different sort of torture--homeless life was hard but it was rarely /boring/. Having to entertain herself? The pits! So when she gets a text about pre-dance festivities, she is all over that. Not long after Rasa's arrival, a shaggy ginger head pops around the doorframe. "Knock knock! B, you in here--oh." Cheerful switches to cautious without missing a beat. "Hey Rasa."

"Dressing up is totally fun. You can have skirts and makeup and why would anyone /not/ want those things." Sebastian has emptied a significant chunk of his closet onto the bed. It's quite colourful. His style /clearly/ takes after Jax's. He'd also clearly been /homeworking/ prior to this, given his Spanish textbook on his desk and a half-written essay open on his laptop. "I mean, you don't /have/ to go but it's /fun/ -- Hi, Shelby!" Sebastian's smile is quick and warm, and he waves Shelby in. "/You're/ dancing, right? Tell me you like dancing."

Rasa stiffens when Shelby begins speaking and turns to face her when she comes in. Ze looks between the two and frowns a little, sitting on the edge of the bed, hands gripping gently. "I don't really want to get in the way," ze speaks softly, shrinking in stature, literally, until ze has lost six inches or so, trying to disappear into the corner. Hir hands begin to take on the color of the bedspread.

"Hell yeah, I'm dancing." With Rasa scootching back, Shelby slides into the room. It doesn't appear that her clothing allowance has come through but her usual tank tops and sweatpants are at least clean. She proceeds, without shyness, to the Mound O' Color to begin digging. "You gotta show me some of those moves you used last time we all went out though, I don't think this place is gonna go for my style too good." A glance shoots over her shoulder at Rasa. "You're not in the way," she says, albeit stiffly. "You oughta get her in some metallics, B. I'm thinkin' pink for me..."

"How do you feel about silver?" Sebastian asks Rasa, picking up a metallic silver skirt with a few blue bars slanting diagonally across it. "I have some /awesome/ chrome nailpolish, too -- well okay I stole it from pa. Here, I've got tons of pink. Nobody's gonna be in the way. Or I guess everyone's gonna be in the way? I don't know, it's a dance. People dance. Shelby, you want a dress?" He holds up a rose one. It's kind of slinky.

"I... uh. Guess?" Rasa peels hir hand away and stands up, reaching for the skirt to look it over. "Do you have any that... aren't so short?" Ze holds up the skirt, but from the way ze looks at it, if the fabric didn't sweep the ground, ze wouldn't be comfortable. "Or maybe leggings?" Ze wets hir lips and sets it back down on the pile. "Silver is nice, but any color will work. I'm sure it'll look fine."

"Man, you got all the best stuff," Shelby says of Sebastian's ability to pull Just The Right Thing out of the pile. She's admiring the rose-colored dress before she's even laid hands on it. Once possessed, she holds it against herself and cranes a look down. "I got some gold leggings, back in the room," she comments off the cuff, as if it is no big deal and she really doesn't care if Rasa accepts or refuses. She is, after all, very busy in swishing and turning to see how the fabric ripples. "This is perfect."

"You could put leggings under the skirt," Sebastian suggests, handing the dress off to Shelby and digging through the pile. "I have some --" He has many. He goes past a swirly purple-and-black pair, a pair striped in neon yellow and black, a pair that looks like it is composed of stained-glass panels, and grabs one dark and printed with a design of space. Stars. Swirly galaxies. The dress swishes quite a bit, in its skirt, though its top is clingier. "Gold'd be awesome, too, with this. Or maybe with purple. I have longer purple. Like ankle-long. I don't know what I'm going to do do you think people would laugh if I had a skirt /too/? Ohgosh. Dennis would probably laugh, wouldn't he?" He's frowning. Biting down on his lip, which always looks like a dangerous prospect, with him. "I got a lot of good things I uh go thrift-store shopping with my pa a lot. And then he sews stuff. It's awesome."

Rasa takes the space leggings and stares at them, entranced. Ze doesn't really say much once ze has them in hir hands. "I guess so." Fingers trace over the designs as Rasa continues to shrink, turning rather ball like and getting more and more quiet. Ze moves closer to the wall and hir face starts to blend in with the paint color. "I think you'd look okay in a dress. Why shouldn't you wear skirts? I like to wear skirts." So... quiet.

"She's right. Fuck Dennis," Shelby says, completely comfortable with throwing this sentiment at someone she's never met before. "Lots of guys wear skirts, all over the world, right? Makes it easier to get to the fun stuff." She flicks a look over Sebastian, moving from crowd to toes, and then gives a grin that Shane would have been proud of. It is a grin that leaves little to the imagination. Fortunately, she opts not to do the same about trying on the dress she's been given. Tossing it over her shoulder, she remarks, "I'ma hit the bathroom, be right back." Yes, on this floor. SCANDAL! God help the boys as she darts out of the room.

"Makes it easier to -- /oh/." Sebastian stops at this. His eyes widen huge. His cheeks darken, flushing so deep they are almost purple. He sinks down onto the bed, looking very much like he /wishes/ he could shrink smaller like Rasa. He settles for balling up, dragging a pair of red velvety pants over his face. And hiding under them.

"I should go. You two are having those moments..." Rasa nods and moves away from the door, still clutching the very lovely leggings. "I hope you have a nice time tonight?" There is a small smile flashed at the embarrassed boy, which he likely does not see, before ze steps out.

There is a commotion down the hallway--it would seem Shelby has achieved her objective, both in startling the floor's residents and in getting changed. There are some catcalls and one brave shout of, "NO GIRLS ALLOWED," before she reappears at a dash. Looking pleased with herself, naturally, previous attire bundled in her arms and the hem of the skirt flashing around her legs. She's just in time to observe Rasa exit Sebastian's room and that brings her up short. "Hey! Hey...you going back to the room to get changed?" she inquires, sounding genuinely curious.

Sebastian's still hiding. Under his pants. Though occasionally he is peeking out into the clothing pile to poke through it. But then mostly hiding. He's probably not through blushing yet.

"I... was leaving. You have left, um, your person, ah... in a state and I am one person too many." Rasa admits, face and hands turning metallic shades to hide hir thoughts. "You don't want me around." There might be a bit more emphasis on the word 'you' than intended. Ze continues to wad the leggings up in hir hands unconsciously. "I will leave you to him now."

"Who, Bastian?" Shelby's forehead crumples as she looks inside of the room and spies the hiding teenager. "He's not my person. I made a joke...B, it was a joke! C'mon, you'd have laughed if Shane said it!" Maybe. Maybe not. But she looks back at Rasa, convinced if her rightness. "If I didn't want you around, I wouldn't have said you could wear my gold leggings. Those things are, like, my lucky charm. I was wearing 'em when I /totally/ blew everyone's minds at Montagues," she informs her roommate. "S'how I got booked for the Bowery."

Sebastian is poking out of his clothingpile more, now. Embarassment can only go /so/ long when there's clothes to be chosen. He grabs a swishy off-white skirt to hold it against his skinny hips thoughtfully. With an experimental swish. Just for good measure.

"Ah. Yes. The Bowery again." Rasa is frustrated. Ze inhales deeply and glances back at Sebastian. Arms cross over hir chest as ze considers.

Shelby swings the sweatpants and tanktops over her shoulder to let them dangle, freeing her hands up to be spread open-palmed. "If you want 'em, wear 'em," she says before ambling back into the room. "That's a good color on you." This is to Sebastian as she goes on the prowl for... "Oh man, you don't have like hairpins or anything, do you? No hair. Hm."

"I've got shoes, too, if you want," Sebastian calls lightly out to Rasa. "Ummm. No hairpins, no, sorry. My hair won't do anything different if I /try/. I did uhh melt it a little bit once. Trying to iron it flat." His nose wrinkles at the thought of /that/. "I was thinking this with a black top, maybe. Something with flowy sleeves." He's eying his clothingpile, though, with a distinctly /fretty/ look. Maybe he's trying to do a Jax impression.

Rasa is practically out the door, clutching something that looks like the night sky or galaxies in one hand, extremely uncomfortable in hir posture. All visible skin has taken on a sort of metallic hue as ze stares back into the room at the two who seem very interested and set on dressing up for the night. Ze seems conflicted and unable to just leave.

"Oh yeah...if anyone wants different hair color tonight, just lemme know. It'd probably only /last/ the night, but..." And there's Shelby. She's in a slink rose-tinted dress, bodice tight and skirt flowy. Shane's bed is the unfortunate recipient of her sweatpants and such, as they are no longer needed. "I got some pins back in the room, I'll swing back by there before the dance starts, get this shit off my neck. Wish I'd cut it before I left," she sighs as she gathers her hair up to twist and knot it out of the way. "Stupid impulse decisions. Hey, makeup. You want that chrome fingernail polish, Rasa?"

Shane is entering with a BANG. Or he would be, if the door wasn't already open. He is entering instead with a stomp and a twirling wave of a black porkpie hat. He might be dressed for the dance already! Or he might just be /dressed/, he doesn't look much different than usual in pinstriped trousers, a neat grey-and-black vest cinched slim over a red button-down. "Wohey, s'a party in here." He sets the hat neatly atop Rasa's head as he passes by hir and into the room. "What's this, Bastian, you strolling in like a pimp, pretty young thing on each arm?" He glances between Shelby and Rasa with a /bright/ grin. "That's my plan, I conned Taylor into going with me. /And/ Dai. Though really Taylor should be the pimping one, he's got enough appendages to have half the school on his arms."

"I'm -- uh -- I'm --" Sebastian flushes again at Shane's suggestion, looking through the others. "We were just getting dressed. Everyone's -- prettying. /Taylor/, really? I thought he was dating Hope. Here." He rummages through a desk drawer, pulling out a silvery bottle of nailpolish to trot to the door and offer it to Rasa. "Chrome. It'll be great. Uh, I've got like a bajillion makeups in there," he adds to Shelby with a wave towards the open drawer, "although most of it's chosen assuming you're blue? So it's mostly pretty /bright/."

Suddenly, Rasa is wearing a hat. Ze looks up at it, draping the leggings over hir shoulder, then reaching up to touch the brim. Hir eyes follow Shane as he struts in. Ze sniffs and lets hir hand drop. "I um, arms. Wasn't going to, um. I was just... invited to dress up." Rasa takes the nail polish carefully from Sebastian, careful not to touch his skin to hir own. Ze wets hir lips self consciously. "I still need a top." And possibly a bottom, but some people wear leggings for pants.

"Hey Shane!" Shelby greets him with her back because makeup drawer. She rummages in search of anything not-bright on account of her non-blue, pale and freckled complexion. "Fuck, man, you gotta start leaving some for the rest of us. Taylor's the big dude, right? With the arms? That's hot," she laughs. "Hm...you think purple'd go with this dress?" She turns around, holding up a square of lilac eye-shadow beside her cheek.

"Yeah. Big. Muscles. /Tentacles/," Shane says, grinning /brighter/. "Yeeeah he's dating Hope but she's taking off for the weekend already. Some family shit. Maybe someone died?" He doesn't really sound sure of this, or particularly sympathetic either. "So I'm like. His Hope /stand-in/. Here." He says /here/ to Rasa, having ambled over to dig through Sebastian's clothing to turn up a black blouse, its long sleeves sheer but its body more solid. "What d'you mean you weren't going to? You're totally going with Bastian," he /informs/ Rasa. "You too, right?" This, to Shelby.

"Shane just likes bringing Taylor home because tentacles freak my pa /out/ so bad and it's funny seeing him be /so polite/ when his panic reflexes are firing." Sebastian is darkening again, though, at Shane. His eyes dart between Shelby and Rasa. "I -- uh -- I think that looks -- good," he stammers of the eye shadow, awkwardly curling his arms in to hold his skirt tight against his chest.

"I wasn't going to go at all," Hence the discomfort that Rasa doesn't quite seem able to shake. Ze reaches out and takes the blouse, holding it up to look at. Hir lips twitch to one side. "Sebastian is having a hard time concentrating on much because Shelby said skirts are good for feeling people up." Maybe not those exact words, but Rasa didn't exactly memorize them.

"Hey, tell me it isn't true," Shelby says to defend herself. "If Shane said it, everyone'd be /fine/. Gawd. High school." She is soooo world-weary, she is. She's also flipping the eye-shadow open to dab her pinky against the color, bringing it to her eye and squinting into the teeny tiny mirror. "But so no one faints or anything, Bastian, you can go with Rasa and I'll steal Taylor from Shane and then we can all swap up for different dances."

"What, does that bother you? Don't be stupid," Shane says, moving over to flop down onto his bed, "The closest Bastian's ever come to being felt up is his yearly physical. You're /going/. Everyone's going, what the fuck /else/ is there to do around here on a Wednesday night? I think that blouse'll look great on you. Who says I'm giving you Taylor?" But he doesn't really sound all /that/ defensive of the tentacled boy. "You can have Daiki."

"/Have/ Daiki?" This draws a laugh from Sebastian, "Shane, you are the /worst/ boyfriend who's /ever/ boyfriended." His blush is, at least, subsiding somewhat. "Shelby was joking, Rasa. It's just a dance. We're /all/ going and we're /all/ going to have fun."

"It's hard to tell," Rasa says in hir defense, turning fire engine red and shrinking another few inches. Ze's getting further and further under the five foot mark. "Shelby brags about everything. I didn't know." Ze sniffs and puts the nail polish down. "I... forgot. I will be wearing gloves. Don't need polish."

"Can I keep him? You just hand him over like that, maybe he'll wanna stay with me." That's another joke! Shelby's on a roll. She dabs at the eye-shadow to smudge it in pretty like then inspects herself in the mirror. "That'll do, pig," she mumbles before snapping the case shut and returning it to the drawer. "If I had a shrink," she says on the subject of bragging, "they'd probably say I'm over-compensating. It's the freckles, I can't help it. Anyway, I'ma go put my hair up and meet ya'll down in the whatsit, okay?"

"Sure, yeah, totally keep him. I mean, you spend the dance with him you'll /want/ to that's how his thing works you can't help it. He's queer as a three dollar bill though but maaaybe you'll be the one to turn him. He'd probably do it. He's /real/ concerned with being /proper/ and being gay really isn't /decorous/." Shane sounds amused by this. "You wanna be his beard? Wait, Ras, are they gonna be black gloves? Can they be, like, satiny elbow-length ones? Because that's hot, shit, can /I/ take you to the dance?"

"No, I'm taking hir!" Bastian protests, snapping his teeth towards Shane bitily. And then, actually teasing for once: "You know we've got a shrink right here at school, right?" He waves his skirt towards Shelby. "See you down there! Are you /really/ going with Taylor? Or uh Daiki? -- Ooo. Elbow gloves /would/ be pretty killer. Maybe with less sleeves? Shorter sleeves, elbow gloves."

"I have to wear gloves," Rasa admits, frowning a little, hir shrinking halted. "I guess I can wear the long black ones, if it means that much to you." Ze blinks at Shane, a bit confused. "I am not used to wearing clothes like these, so ... um, whatever you guys think would look good, I am okay with it." Some of hir height returns, eyes dancing between the twins, encouraged by their attention.

"Hey, I could do it," Shelby shoots back at Shane--though her grin says she isn't entirely serious. "Anyway, I'm the new kid, right? I gotta make an /entrance/, I can do that better coming in looking like this on my own," she adds, passing her hands down the dress to smooth it. "Save me some dances, huh?" She doesn't clarify whom that was intended for, choosing instead to slip past Rasa back into the hall. There is a distant groaned shout of, "Oh god, guys, she's /back/," but at least she's now heading in the direction of the elevator rather than the bathroom?

"I think you'll look good pretty much no matter what," Shane says with a shrug. "Gloves are just hot. Shit. I'mm'a see if Dai's ready." He gets up to slip past Rasa again, with an absent pat to hir shoulder as he goes. "See you guys there!" He leaves hir his hat, though.

Sebastian is back to blushing, as the others start to leave. He gathers his chosen clothing to his chest, giving Rasa a shy look. "He's right. You'll look good. I -- should get dressed. I'll see you -- soon?"

Rasa nods and grips the clothes ze has, and turns to head back to the girl's hallway. "Soon."
