<NYC> Strand Books - East Village | |
The Strand manages to pack a whole lot of character into one bookstore, but they have a lot of space to fit it in. They advertise themselves as having eighteen miles of books, and whether or not that is true, it certainly is true that they have an enormous number of shelves packed into their rows and rows and rows of books. A book-lover's haven, this East Village landmark boasts an enormous collection of volumes of all types among their stacks, crammed into the narrow aisles. Well-known for their rare and out-of-print collection, they have many hard to find volumes tucked away in their labyrinth of shelves as well. With a book store this large, its hard to fill it up even during peak hours. But with the cold winter on hand, people are more interested in staying indoors than they are in going out and shopping. The employees only barely seem to mind, using the time to restock and reshelf the books, removing all the sex books that people have moved into the children sections. Keeping his own schedule, Sean swings into the book store to pick up a tome on art history he had remembered from his masters program. Used to far more snow and far colder weather, he is wearing a fashionable wool coat with a cute scarf and a pair of jeans, but he doesn't seem to be too bothered by the weather as it currently is though he is at least wearing good boots just in case. A grey messenger bag is draped over a shoulder, with a few pins ranging from promoting equality to showing support for animal rights and promoting veganism, the artist only slightly seemed a hipster, thankfully lacking the ugly glasses. Speaking of animals, one is entering through the door right now! A fluffy white cat, being let in by a large dark-skinned man with four arms, dressed in a coat with two holes cut in the lower section for the extra arms. Rasputin is promptly greeted by stares, and calmly nods hir head, walking straight over to a fantasy section. And then begins speaking to the large man. "Hmm...wonder what they have...maybe I should read Twilight.". And ze is actually giving this a serious thought, too! At murmurs going on about the cat and man, Sean looks down the aisle with a skeptical look on his face. He can't see anything from where he is, but since there aren't screams he picks up the book he needs and heads down the way. As he does, he sees what is going on and comes to a halt. "Well thats not something you see every day." His next reaction is a little different though, rather than taking a picture or staring, he pops the flap of the messenger bag and takes out a sketchbook, leaning against a bookshelf as he starts to get it in mind. "Twilight's maybe in the young adult section, if you really want to read it.". The four armed man gives a laugh, as Rasputin promptly heads into that section, spotting Sean. Hir kitty eyes narrow, before curiosity grows, and Rasputin's talking. Well, it starts as a meow, and then forms into a voice. "Woah, whatcha drawing? Are you an artist?". Hir tail wags calmly, childlike enthusiasm in hir eyes and voice. Blink, blink, pencil drop. "Oh, oh. That's what they were making a big deal over." Sean looks between the cat and the man with him, then squats down to grab his pencil. Since it was the cat who asked, he shows the rough sketch of the man and the cat, though the man and the four arms have more detail on it than the cat, both being somewhat rough though. "I like drawing interesting and new things, well as long as they are real. And you two are most certainly real, unless someone started pumping lsd into the store." "Woah, if there was LSD, I think I'd know. Maybe. Or atleast, Kal might.". Rasputin says, smiling. Kal, the dark skinned man shakes his head. "No, no LSD. We're very real. You have a problem with us?". He crosses his four arms silently, as Rasputin is maybe a little oblivious. "Woah, that's pretty good for a sketch. Are you like, famous?". "Well you were moving a bit much for me to get an accurate sketch, but its definitely a good start." Sean smiles warming looking to Kal then back to Rasputin. "Not famous in the sense of Dali, Monet or Warhol, at least not yet. Maybe someday, but you generally have to die first for that kind of fame to kick in. Whether or not your art is good, you just have to have people /Say/ its good." Chuckling at that, he twirls the pencil in his fingers nodding. "Oh, that would be a perfect idea." He glances at Kal again, nodding a bit. "A vetruvian man sculpture would be awesome. Thank you." Whilst Kal is getting a bit upset at this, Rasputin is /loving/ the attention, and poses. Kal stays in his arms position, reluctantly, as Rasputin speaks. "Vetruvi-what? Is that like, french?". Kal smirks, shaking his head. "Da Vinci. Four armed, four legged man. I'm missing part of that conundrum, though.". Rasputin laughs, staying in pose. "Trust me, four legs isn't that fun.". "Indeed. It's a very famous image, and kinda popular sculpturewise too. Doctors sometimes have them on their desks." Seeing that Kal is getting upset, Sean looks a tad embarrassed and runs a hand through his hair. "Er sorry. Sometimes I get swept up in an idea. This is why I generally work landscapes instead of people. Less moving, less emotion to worry about. Getting a candid person though? You can see why photographers go for it rather than a posed thing. More realism, more emotion." Shrugging slightly, he sets his sketchbook under his arm, putting the pencil behind his ear. "I imagine that there will be a new wave of stuff soon, examining the world changed for the new life. Course, then theres also the absolute dickbags, but those end up effigied. I imagine that there will be plenty of Senator Kelly toilet papers sold in time." Kal shakes his head, before turning towards the young adult section. "We're just on a tight schedule. Come on, Ras.". Rasputin nods, waving to Sean with a tail. "Well, nice meeting you! Good luck with your art! Also, yes, probably, but I'd never buy Senator Kelly toilet paper, he'd probably get royalties or something.". Rasputin then heads towards the YA section with Kal, Kal waving one of his upper arms. Chuckling at the kitty's joke, Sean shakes his head and watches the two walk off to the books. If nothing else, he had something new to think on as he headed to purchase the book he had picked up. |
