Moving day! It has been a long time coming and upon Melinda way too quickly. She is possibly one of the only early adopters at the Harbor Commons to have stuff to move in. She has however been living out of a suitcase lately, so she is at least already packed. There's only a handful of stuff at her temporary apartment, so Micah's van is probably enough - a changing table, a baby stroller/car seat, the co-sleeper and a couple suitcases make up the bulk of it. Little Tola is taking residence in the car seat even when they arrive at the new location, giving her a safe place to hang out and keeping Momma's arms free for moving things. Melinda is dressed to work in the lovely, warm spring weather. Her shorts hang off her funny, belted in place to make up for the fact that she is between clothing sizes. She's got a loose green shirt over the top. Her hair is pulled back in a pony tail, looped up an secured so that the excess hair is not in the way. She also has a baby monitor strapped to her hip, the other on the stroller with Tola. She slides the key into the lock upon arrival, opening up the door and stepping inside. "So, here it is!" The entry way to her new apartment is really just her living room, a small set of hooks on the wall beside the door for immediate removal of winter gear in the season. The floor in the entry way is a beige tile, optimal for collecting wet, instead of letting it spread out over her polished hardwood floors. There is a small nook with a window seat, on the same wall as the entryway, taking up the rest of the space the building's entry way takes up. Two large windows line the right wall, casting light inside. The staircase starts a little off from center on the wall opposite the entryway, a doorway to a small guest bathroom residing between the stairs and the exterior wall. A small hallway, small closet doors, and a kitchen take up the rest of the space, a small half wall separating the kitchen from the living room space. Behind Micah's van is another large one, not rented but borrowed from the school, emptier with plentiful space for cargo -- filled up now with all the furniture and things from the storage unit that had been holding Mel and Tove's belongings from the old apartment in the interrim months. Jax pulls up to the curb alongside the front -- or, technically, /back/ door to the house, given that the houses face /inward/ toward the Commons' courtyard and not outward toward the street, hopping down from the driver's seat and circling around to, first, go examine the space before beginning any unloading. He is dressed comfortably as well. Boots and jean shorts and a cheerful green and purple zig-zag striped tank. "Oh, gosh. Your place is right pretty /too/. -- I don't know why I'm surprised." Micah has been helping mostly to haul the single-person carrying items (he's not so good at the manoeuvring part of larger furniture, all the back and side-stepping particularly with stairs is a challenge) from Mel's temporary apartment to his van, driving, then starting in on bringing the same items from the van to the new place. He's dressed simply in a lime green paint-splattered white T-shirt and faded bluejeans in a matching paint-mess motif. His hair is the kind of mussed that implies he isn't the least bit worried about it, sticking up all at angles and a little sweat-damp at the temples. His first contribution to unloading while waiting for the door to open is just a lamp--light enough to hang onto for awhile without much fuss. "Awesome." Bouncing in place on his toes slightly, he has a cheek-splitting wide smile on his face. Moving someone into the Commons might be causing some /excite/. Dusk's already /been/ moved into the Commons for a couple days. For a value of 'moved in' that is -- his backpack, a sleeping bag on the floor of his bedroom and a newly-constructed computer, because Priorities. So the moving vans pulling up to the house next door to his own draws his attention. A window opens on the upper level of Geekhaus next door, Dusk's head poking out. For a moment he just squints, hand shading over-sensitive eyes against the sun as he cranes his head out to watch the people down below. Disappears, reappears shortly thereafter with a new addition of sunglasses. Shortly thereafter he emerges onto the balcony -- jeans, no shirt, Vans sneakers -- to take the /short/ path down. Not really /flying/ so much as controlled falling, it's a slightly erratic and unsteadily aimed swoop that only barely misses the river to thunk down heavily onto the grass. He picks himself up, wings crumple-folding in behind himself, and dusts his knees off as he heads over to join the others. "Need a hand?" Tove is riding with Jax, having helped him load the things into the van this morning. He slips out and follows Jax in, looking around with wide eyes at his first viewing of the new location - he hasn't really left the safehouse since he moved in. He lets out a low whistle as he wanders into the living room before peeking over the half wall at the kitchen, peeking out the window over the sink into the back yard. "Nice. We have a yard too? I don't know why I didn't think we would, but... wow." He heads over to the nearest closet door, opening it to a storage room with a stacked washer and dryer already installed, and the door to the back yard. He throws it open to capture the breeze. Melinda only opens the doors for the others for a moment, before heading back outside to grab the stroller and baby. She lifts the car seat out of the stroller contraption and hooks her arm through the holder, the other hand grasping the shell of the stroller. She smiles at Dusk before waving him back inside with her. "Sure, hun. If you don't mind. I'm paying in the best vegan pizza and beer I can get delivered." There's a pause when she's inside again, before asking "You guys want the tour?" "In /finest/ of movin' traditions," Jax adds cheerfully, to the mention of pizza and beer. "What're y'gonna /do/ with your yard? Personally I'm doin' all the sunbathin'." He turns a bright smile on Dusk, wincing faintly at the rocky landing but pausing to turn back from the house to flit over and offer a hug to the other man, hand patting gently up against Dusk's wing before he tugs Dusk along into the house. "I want all the tour. They're all so /different/. I get all used t'housin' developments bein' cookie-cutter an' these is anything /but/." "Think /all/ the places s'gonna be pretty an' unique. Hive /did/ design the whole thing, after all." Micah leans in to peck a kiss to Jax's cheek. His ridiculous smile finds a way to grow to Cheshire Cat dimensions when Dusk swoops in. "Hi, hon! Good t'see you. 'Course we need a hand. 'Specially if they're /yours/. Seriously, though, 'bout as soon as m'van's cleared out again I'm prob'ly gonna hafta take off. I'm drivin' Janine to a weddin', some cousin or other of hers s'gettin' hitched." He chuckles at Jax. "I'm prob'ly gonna do a lotta observin' a lotta sunbathin'... Also, gardenin' an' a place for Obie t'run 'round's gonna be kinda ridiculously nice." "Well, if there's beer in it." Dusk flexes out a wing shyly to touch very gently against Mel's elbow, following along when Jax pulls him back into the house. "I am pretty good at lugging heavy things around though. -- Woah. Can I observe sunbathing, too? Is that a thing I can do?" He twitches a claw back in the direction of Geekhaus. "We haven't really, uh. Done. Furniture." His cheeks colour just faintly as he enters the house and passes nearer to Tove, hand lifting to brush against his (shaved! -- well, mostly shaved, it's regrowing his usual /faint/ coat of scruff) jaw as his head bows somewhat awkwardly seeing the other man here after all the time spent in the safehouse. "-- Hey, man. It's. Good to see you. Out and. About." "Eh, I had to get out eventually. It's amazing living in a whole house of mutant, but here? It's like living in a whole neighborhood!" Tove chuckles lightly at Dusk's greeting and nods. "Good to see you up and about." He glances at Mel then looks to the others. "It'll probably be a group decision, as we left most of the area open for sharing, but if I have my way? More herbs. Probably mostly the floral herbs for tisanes, lavender and chamomile and the sort. Of course, we may just plant the little flower and see what happens." He gives a not so sneaky glance at the baby. "You know I'm going to try it if she seems to like it. Feet only though. You know. Because nothing can go wrong with dirty feet." Mel peeks at the crowd, giving them a little shrug. "Well, here's the downstairs. Decent sized kitchen. It's just me and Tove for now and Sprout doesn't eat much. There's a bathroom over there - but I'm not sure we have toilet paper yet. So check if you think you'll need it. I have some... somewhere." She rests a hand on the wrought iron railing, one that looks a little more like a tree post and branches than a railing. She grips it as she pulls herself up the first step, the weight of the car seat requiring a little more umph. "We're going to put Tola in the upstairs bathroom for now, that way everything can be moved in without disturbing her." "I was jus' askin' Hive the other day if we could plant her. S'a beautiful day y'sure y'don't want t'jus' -- there's a nice li'l outta the way corner in the garden," Jax says brightly. He follows after Mel, wide-eyed as he takes in the new house. "I always kinda feel kitchens is the most important house-space but that's me. I'm -- uh." He blushes, too. "... Southern. S'like the heart'a -- oh!" He bounces on his toes, detaching his hand from Dusk and trailing fingers against the railing with a suddenly delighted expression. "/Pretty/." Between Tove's comment and Jax's Dusk is prompted to quietly start humming the Mr. Roger's theme song as he follows aloong on the house tour. "Think there's going to be a lot of gardening going on around here. If we're not careful we might have to start eating /healthy/ over at our place, all these herbs and vegetables lying around." "Well, I've already requested two solid trees for a hammock, so there will also be plenty of laying about. Mine will just be a little more shaded." Mel takes the group upstairs next. The stair case ends with a closet to the left, a bare wall, and a turn to the right. There are three doors, Tove's bedroom first, then Mel's master bedroom, which takes up most of the corner of the upstairs. The rest of the upstairs, over the living room and part of the downstairs bathroom, is a healthy sized bathroom with a large claw footed tub - one perfect for soaking one body or two. Mel wanders off to settle Tola in. "Is that such a bad thing? We could have pesto on nearly everything," Tove muses, a slow smile spreading across his green features. "See? Layin' about. Mel knows where it's at. We're gonna have the layin' about market cornered." Jax's /bounce/ only grows as he explores the rest of the house, /twirling/ in the center of the master bedroom. "-- There's gonna be /oceans/'a pesto all summer I think. Pesto bounty. Whole worldfull." He /might/ have found a little bit of excite for himself. He darts tiny kisses to Mel and Tove and Dusk's cheeks in turn before zipping off to rush down the stairs so that he can head towards the moving van and start in on the unloading. "Pesto on Tove?" Dusk's brows raise, squinting at the other man a /little/ skeptically with this. His eyes widen and he backs a little bit away towards the wall as Jax zips about, wings quivering at his back. "Oh. Shit. I think he forgot his brakes. I should go make sure he doesn't strain something." |
