xxxxxThe Koizumi family has lived in Nagasaki for many generations, even the bomb at the end of World War II didn't chase the family away though it destroyed over half of it. As true children of the atom the family line was.. adjusted in small ways that wouldn't make themselves known until the 70's. Koizumi Kenta, Sasori's father, was the first mutant born to the Koizumi family but not the last. His ability allowed him control his density in both directions. As one of the first japanese mutants he was proud to support his country and entered into the japanese special police force. It was there that Kenta met his future wife Jun. It wasn't long before the two were married and then expecting.
xxxxxIt was clear Kenta had hoped for a boy, both he and Jun had agreed on one child only before hand in order for both of them to continue their careers, and Jun had no desire to be stuck at home forever. So while Sasori was raised in proper japanese fashion, she also was raised to be the son Kenta wouldn't get. That meant a lot of daughter/father time. Mostly hiking, martial arts, camping, fishing, trips to the outlying islands, and things like that. Though a lot of it had to happen in bursts as Kenta could get leave. While Sasori was totally a daddy's girl she still loved her mother and spent time with her as well though they didn't travel anywhere near as much. It became almost a competition between Kenta and Jun to surprise the other with what they'd taught Sasori while the other was on assignment.
xxxxxGood things do not last however and being the daughter of a pair of cops means at one point or another someone is going to try to use you as collateral. Especially when one of your parents is a full blown super cop with super powers. It happened while Kenta was away, the team sent to kidnap Jun and Sasori slightly inexperienced, new members of the 'Family' trying to prove themselves. They fought. Jun died. A piece of Sasori died with her. A lot of what happened to her is a blur, blank, the memories unfocused due to grief and shock. When Kenta came to get her there was a lot of blood and pain. Sasori's mutant power triggered after she was stabbed and she grew, and grew, and grew. The building didn't much survive, in her blind rage and pain Sasori destroyed the building. There were a lot of injured. A lot of casualties. It was then that she lost her father as well.
xxxxxKenta sent Sasori oversea's to live with her Aunt and her cousins and for a long time she just hid away from everyone. It was the first time that she shrunk in her desire to get away that snapped her out of her sorrow. She remembered then what happened and it all flooded back to her. Instead of getting sad, she got angry, and getting angry helped. Anger actually gave her focus and didn't let her slip into that dark place. She used it to get better control of her powers, learning how to grow and to shrink at will and from there she decided she would never be a victim again. In America it was easy to become a body builder, it wasn't as strange as it would be in Japan. She signed up for martial arts lessons, building on her judo, aikido, and karate.
xxxxxBy the time she graduated she was already winning female body building competitions, had good control of her power, and felt ready to take on the world. The only question was, would she return home to Japan or not. She liked the freedom of being who she was, and while she half wanted to return to Japan to join the police and help her father there was still a lot of bad memories there. That's when the mutant registration thing came down. She knew she was one, how could she not be, since neither she, nor her father, had ever had any accidents that would give them powers. The way people were treating mutants in America though was different than how they were in Japan. In Japan, mutants were a source of pride and power, in America things were going much much worse. She could fight for mutants who were weaker than herself, and so she would. Of course /how/ to fight was the question.
