Description

xxxxx
Sam "Cyan" Liach is 5'8", on the scrawny side of lean, with an intense look in their dark - almost completely black - eyes, frequently giving the impression that they are staring intently at something just behind whomever they’re interacting with. Their hair is a black unruly mess, which does its best to spite gravity, usually covered with a beanie or hood. Their skin is pale, almost grey. If their sweat pools it takes on a translucent green-blue (one might say cyan) color, which evaporates quickly, but can cause aurora-like shimmering in Cyan’s skin. Cyan is usually sweaty. They always try to cover up their skin as much as possible, electing for large coats or oversized hoodies. Wearing old worn boots (big and heavy), loose-fitting pants (cargos or sweats), and do their best to keep their mouth and nose covered with a face mask or scarf at all times.
Cyan is non-binary (he/they), usually leaning towards a masculine presentation (for safety), but their mannerisms sometimes become more feminine, especially when nervous. They've never felt a need to define their sexuality, but gender does not factor into it.
For anyone who's actually seen Cyan without him being covered up, they might have noticed that they're covered in old surgery scars, in addition to some nasty-looking scars on their forearms (dog bite-marks). Scars do not show up very clearly against their skin though so it would require more careful observation than a casual glance.

Reputation
|
xxxxx
In general, Cyan does not have much of a reputation to anyone, electing to mostly keep a low-profile and never using their real name.
For those who came in contact with them in Verela they might remember them as that kid who'd volunteer for everything, but otherwise rather shy and quiet.
In relevant environments or communities some people might know of them as Cyan the Drug

History
|
xxxxx
Sam Liach was born into the privileged position of being the only child of Eliza Liach, a high-profile defense attorney for the rich and powerful. Growing up they were treated mostly as a doll, a blank slate for their mother's expectations and the pressure that came with them. Sam was sent to a fancy all-girls boarding school in Britain, getting an education that included ballet, music and etiquette. However, as their mutant powers manifested during their first party, everything changed. Uncontrolled, Cyan's powers caused an incident that would later be chalked down to mass hysteria, with several people jumping out the window of the apartment the party was held at (it was the second floor, they were fine), and their first and only girlfriend throwing herself off the roof and breaking both her legs.
Confiding in their mother Cyan found themselves sent to an institution set up to “help unfortunate sufferers of the x-gene anomaly” - essentially locked up and hidden away - while their mother publicly pretended they had never existed.
The institution turned out to be Verela, one of the labs involved in the Prometheus Project. Cyan lived here from ages 14 to 18 before being moved around. The experience was traumatic and they harbor a lot of EmotionsTM about it, among them a lot guilt over being used to experiment on others and a deep-seated fear of being constrained.
After the Prometheus Project was exposed to the public, Cyan found themselves released in the summer of 2023 with no place to go and no one to turn to. With a deep distrust of authorities and wanting to avoid drawing the attention of their mother, they elected to simply disappear.
For the last one and a half years they’ve been drifting aimlessly from place to place, growing increasingly hesitant about trusting anyone, both due to the generally rising hostility towards mutants in society at large, and due to several encounters with people who’ve tried to exploit their powers. Most notable the Kansas Incident. The steadily increasing effect their powers have on their own sanity is also making it harder and harder for Cyan to trust their own perception of reality.
At this point Cyan is skittish, and on a surface level selfish, if a bit overly proud about receiving anything they deem a hand-out. But, despite their insistence they can look after themselves and don't need anyone else, they are both very naive, impressionable, and desperate for somewhere to belong. Cyan can easily be goaded into doing things they deem stupid, especially if it comes with the possibility of making friends.
They recently arrived in New York City after finding what they interpreted as a sign tagged on a bus stop wall.
Currently living with Anahita, Budi, and a mysterious person known as D (it's Damien).

Powers
|
xxxxx
Cyan’s skin, spit, sweat, and blood produces a substance that causes a range of effects such as hallucinations, delirium, a sense of euphoria, megalomania and addiction in those exposed to it.
While not affected nearly as much as other people, Cyan has started experiencing a weak version of their own power. This is especially present if they are using their power on others, or spend a lot of time breathing in their own fumes. This has accelerated as they’ve grown older, and is potentially exasperated by suppression drugs.
The power can not be turned off (at least Cyan has not found a way).
Effects fade rapidly when the substance is not within a biological container (aka when it's not part of Cyan or affecting someone) and thus can not be harvested for later consumption without the use of creative methods.
Below are the various observed stages of exposure by Prometheus researchers. Note these stages are just a guideline, effects may vary from person to person based on physiology, metabolism and other applicable factors (i.e.mutations).
- Stage 1: The Mellow High.
Induced by: Casual skin contact, breath.
Common effects: a sense of euphoria, senses are mildly numbed, provides mild pain relief. Subject might experience spatial and temporal confusion.
- Stage 2: An Introduction to the White Rabbit
Induced by: Contact with visible droplets. Prolonged skin contact.
At this point the subject starts experiencing hallucinations, delirium and occasionally vertigo. Senses switch between being numbed and intensified. A focused mind can still navigate the world at this stage, but any regular individual will at this point be, as they say, tripping balls.
- Stage 3: And Here Comes Mr. Nightmare
Induced by: Prolonged skin contact for 20 minutes+. Transfer of small amounts of bodily fluids (2-15 ml).
At this point the subject might experience megalomania, waking nightmares, loss-of-self, increased irritability/aggression. The effects are temporary and commonly lasts for 6-12 hours. At this point the subject starts completely losing touch with reality. Subjects with known cardiac issues should not be subjected to testing at this level.
Induced by: prolonged exposure over 4 weeks. Blood transfusions.
Nausea, psychotic episodes, paranoia, murderous rage, permanent damage to higher brain functions, paralysis and in some subjects sudden onset death. We have still to see subjects return to normal after being subjected to this level of exposure, further testing would be required.
Cyan the Drug - Medical Information
In this pamphlet you will find information on:
- What is Cyan and what is it used for
- What you need to know before using Cyan
- How to use Cyan
- Possible Side Effects
- How to preserve and store Cyan
- Further information
1 What is Cyan and what is it used for
Cyan is used by consenting adults for
- Getting baked
- Getting high
- Pain relief
- As relief for symptoms of Parkinsons, Arthritis and certain types of seizures
Cyan as a drug has a rapid onset effect (approx 10 seconds - 2 minutes), which provides a wide variety of experiences in a range from mellow high to permanent loss of higher brain functions. Its main use is for its psychoactive and hallucinatory effects.
2 What do you need to know before using Cyan
Do not use Cyan if
- You have medical issues with your liver or kidneys
- You have cardiac problems
- You are on a rooftop and have no protection against rapid onset gravity
- A family history of psychological breakdowns
- Warnings and cautionary guidelines
- Adhere to guidelines provided by your local source of Cyan, please inform said source if:
- You currently have or have a history of addiction
- You have former bad experiences with psychoactive drugs, hallucinations or sleep walking
- You have poor metabolism, or otherwise struggle with getting drugs out of your system.
Using Cyan can lead to physical and/or physiological addiction. The dangers of addiction increase with dosage and extent of use, and are significantly increased if used beyond 4 weeks. The risk is also higher for patients with former psychological issues, or pre-existing addiction to drugs or alcohol.
Cyan can cause memory loss. Make sure you are in a safe environment before using Cyan. If you have an adverse reaction to Cyan please stop your intake and contact a medical professional.
- Risk of permanent effects
- Should any of your symptoms of taking Cyan linger beyond 12 hours, please wait for at least 4 months of being symptom-free before taking more.
- Other drugs and Cyan
- Please advise with your source of Cyan before taking Cyan simultaneously as other drugs. Drugs that affect your central nervous system can have unprecedented and unexpected effects. Alcohol should be avoided while using Cyan. Using Cyan along with opiods increases the chance of respiratory issues, prolonged sleeping issues and going into a comatose state. It can be useful to inform friends and family of the risk before using Cyan.
Drugs taken to treat bacterial or fungal infections (erytromycin, rifampicin, itrakonazol), some drugs that are used in the treatment of HIV, some drugs used in the treatment of epilepsy, along with St John's Wort can affect the effects of Cyan.
- Pregnancy and Nursing
- Avoid taking Cyan if you are pregnant or nursing. If you think you might be pregnant or are trying to become pregnant, it is highly advised not to take Cyan. Cyan will affect an infant or child far more severely than adults. Studies have shown Cyan to potentially lead to spontaneous abortion or fetal damage. If used during pregnancy or nursing Cyan will cause addiction in the infant. Infants or children who have been exposed to Cyan should be monitored closely for adverse effects and/or permanent damage.
- Driving and use of heavy machinery
- Do not use Cyan less than 12 hours before driving, operating heavy machinery, or otherwise engaging in risky activities.
- Animals
- Cyan has a similar but more extreme effect on animals, depending on weight and metabolism
- Allergies
- Cyan is lactose and gluten free. Cyan does not contain nightshade or gelatin derived from animals.
3 How to use Cyan
Always use Cyan exactly as prescribed by your source. Check with your source if you are unsure.
Dosage:
- Mellow high - Skin contact, breath, 10 seconds - 2 minutes
- White Rabbit Introduction - Contact with visible droplets, 10-20 minutes
- Nightmare Introduction - Prolonged skin contact for 20 minutes+. Transfer of small amounts of bodily fluids (2-15 ml).
- Doom - Prolonged exposure over 4 weeks. Blood transfusions.
- If you take too much Cyan
- Various symptoms relating to the central nervous system become present in case of overdose. From a lack of spatial and temporal awareness to sudden coma, depending on the amount. Please contact your nearest medical facility if you have taken too much Cyan.
4 Possible Side Effects
As with all drugs, Cyan can cause a wide variety of side effects, which can vary from patient to patient. Stop using Cyan immediately if:

5 How to Preserve and Store Cyan
Cyan should not be kept at temperatures above 22C, and protected against direct sunlight.
Cyan should be kept away from children and animals.
Cyan should not be tossed in the sink or flushed down the toilet. Contact a professional for disposal for the sake of the environment.
Cyan should be fed 3 times a day and kept hydrated. Do not subject Cyan to loud noises, crowds or extreme stress.
6 Further information
Cyan the Drug is a physical secretion produced by Cyan the Person, through skin, sweat and other bodily fluids. It is absorbed through direct contact. It directly affects the central nervous system and the brain. Creatures without these structures will not be affected by Cyan.
Cyan the Drug will rapidly lose its effect outside a host, and becomes non-effective after 2-5 minutes away from a biological container.
This information was last updated July 2 2023.

Skills
|
xxxxx
Cyan was trained in ballet and contemporary dance from a very early age, and even though their formal training ceased when they became part of Project Prometheus, they kept at it on their own any chance they got. Cyan is thus very graceful and dexterous, and an exceptionally good dancer should they ever choose to not wear clothes and boots that weigh more than they do.
They are also above average at classical piano and know the theory of social etiquette in high society.
Since their powers manifested Cyan has done everything they can to learn about chemistry and pharmaceuticals, and while they don’t have a formal degree, they are highly skilled at the practical application of these topics.
Fights by letting people hit them and then waiting until the psychedelic takes effect, thus usually gets hurt if in a scrap.

Trivia
|
- Cyan loves dancing and will practice if they find a place where they think they're alone. This has led to them unknowingly being the source of a urban legend about a dancing ghost.
- They have a phobia of dogs, especially loud ones.
- Cyan is Very Bad at names and tends to refer to people by descriptive nicknames, they are also bad at faces and struggle to recognize celebrities. Doesn't react much to people looking weird on account of Hallucinations and having seen weirder
- We do not talk about Kansas
- Kind of speaks Russian if it's very slow and very basic
- Cats love Cyan on account of them doing their best to avoid them. Cyan likes cats but is terrified of accidentally using their powers on them. Thus, in places with cats, Cyan often ends up trapped by cats who choose them as a lap as Cyan can't bring themselves to remove the cat. 98% of the images on their phone are blurry pictures of various cats.
- Can't cook for shit, but makes an amazing cup of coffee
- Spent most of their teenage years in a Prometheus Lab so struggles with pop-culture references and Acting Normal

May I have this dance? - Cyan will go far for a chance to dance, even to the point of bending their own rules about staying away from people. As long as they don't actually have to touch anyone they can easily be convinced if the right opportunity should present itself.
|
Stealing fire from the Gods - Cyan was released from Project Prometheus when it crashed and burned in the summer of 2023, but before that they were a long-time resident at Varela and harbors Big Trauma about the whole thing.
|
Your friendly neighborhood drug dealer - While Cyan is not currently selling, there might be rumors floating around that they are a quick way to get High
|
Part of the background - Cyan has a tendency to just appear. Not due to any inherent skill or power, but because they really want to talk to people but is Highly Awkward about it. Also doesn't like to stay in one place for too long so tends to be out and about.
|
Thirsty for Knowledge - Cyan is worried about their powers and believes the secret to keeping it under control lies in chemistry and pharmaceuticals. They often hang out at public libraries digging through books on the subject, if they can do so unbothered by authorities. Their knowledge on the subject is also quite expansive and they could be a good advisor or help for anyone who needs expertise in the subject. Or they might, albeit carefully, seek out someone who has a reputation for knowing more about it than what's publicly available.
|
Looking for Work - A job would be good, something where they don't have to touch anyone and they get paid in cash. If there's not too many questions asked that's a bonus. Although they have no qualms about lying should that be the only thing standing in their way.
