Introduction
|
xxxxxCommonly known as the fuzzy blue elf, Kurt Wagner is a seemingly endless font of good cheer, wit, witticism, adventure and Teutonic charm all rolled up into one velvety exterior. He's a well-known lover of old cinema, pirates and anything that involves swashing buckles, but he's just as well-known as a supportive shoulder to lean on when times get rough.

History
|
xxxxxKurt doesn't know who his true parents are--although that never much mattered to him. What he knows is that as an infant, barely hours old, he was found in the reeds of a Bavarian river by Margali Szardos, the fortune teller of a traveling circus based out of Munich. Already the mother of Stefan and Jimaine Szardos, Margali took the young, strange-looking boy in as her own, naming him after the local Baron. Despite having been born with his physical mutation, Kurt grew up very happy in the circus with his brother and sister. He was never accosted for his appearance by the circus members, and as long as he did not show himself to the vistors outside of the context of being 'in costume', he was never hassled by the people in the towns either. It was an idyllic, almost fantasic upbringing, and Kurt spent much of his time learning various performer's skills or watching old movies--he had a natural attraction to things involving swashbuckling leading men, especially Errol Flynn.
xxxxxKurt's natural agility and reflexes led him to be on obvious pick for the circus' acrobatic and trapeze acts. His ability to teleport himself or others, which manifest when he was thirteen, only made him a more natural choice for the dangerous trapeze stunts, and soon 'The Incredible Nightcrawler' was the star of the Munich Circus and the most well-recieved acrobatic act--with the help of Jimaine Szardos--in all of Europe. The energetic duo attracted the attention of an American businessman, Amos Jardine, who one night offered Kurt and Jimaine the opportunity to move to his own circus in Florida and "make it big" in America. Starstruck and overjoyed at what seemed like a chance of a lifetime, the pair agreed, and the entire family packed up to join Jardine in the Everglades.
xxxxxIt was an offer too good to be true. Immediately upon arrival, Jardine drugged Kurt, causing him to be unable to access his teleportation ability, and locked him in a cage. Jardine kept Kurt docile with a combination of drugs and threats against his mother and siblings, only releasing him once a night to perform in the big-top as the trapeze act's antagonist.
xxxxxThis inhumane treatment continued for two years, until Charles Xavier heard word of the unfortunate mutant held in a cage, being drug across the Southern United States. Representatives from the school were sent immediately, and Kurt was freed from Jardine's clutches. Frustrated at his treatment and wanting to help other mutants who might be as unfortunate as he was, Kurt chose to return to New York with the representatives from the school, while Margali, Jimaine and Stefan were safely returned to the Munich Circus.

xxxxxAltered Physiology:
Most of Kurt's physical mutation is obvious. He is covered in a fine blue fur that feels much like velvet to the touch. The fur unfortunately doesn't do a great deal to keep him warm, although it does make him thoroughly miserable in the summer or when wet. His eyes have no visible iris, pupil, or sclera, and are an unnatural shade of yellow as well as bioluminescent. His ears are pointed, his incisors are sharp fangs, he has a tail and malformed hands and feet. Beneath the surface, Kurt is far more bendy than the average human, able to hold uncomfortably extreme crouches for long periods of time, or contort himself into truly bizarre positions. His tail is especially bendy, literally able to tie itself into knots and then untie itself again without coming to any harm. He frequently uses it as a substitute for his less nimble hands, especially since he can fold its spade around things and manipulate them that way. His body also has a strange way of interacting with solid surfaces, his hands and feet covered with enhanced gripping surfaces which allow him to cling to walls or even the ceiling--even through clothing--without any trouble. Kurt can remain upside-down indefinitely without feeling any ill effects, and due to the color of his fur is quite good at blending into the shadows, making him excellent at skulking around. He has naturally fluid, quiet motions which are more a result of his mutation than any skill but still lend to his ability to stealth. He is reasonably strong, able to lift his own body weight as well as the weight of another average, adult male with any of his limbs--including his tail--without much trouble.
xxxxxTeleportation:
Kurt's teleportation is less subtle. He carries with him at all times the entrance to a personal pocket dimension which surrounds his body and makes him tend to look like he's in more shadows than he is. When he wishes to teleport, Kurt pulls himself into his pocket dimension, traveling at vastly accelerated speeds through it to come out the other side at his destination. Both his departure and his arrival are heralded by a burst of sulfuric scent and purple-black smoke, as well as a distinctive BAMF! sound of displaced air. He cannot repress these effects, and thus can't teleport in 'silence' or secret; he's always going to leave the bamf-cloud behind and it is always going to make that unique noise. Kurt can take passengers with him when he teleports if he pleases. To Kurt the travel through the brimstone dimension is so fast it is negligable, as he literally does not notice it, but for any passenger the fractions of a second spent in a world made of fire and sulfur, with no sense of up or down, is tortorous. Most people feel nauseous after the first BAMF and pass out after three or four in a row. Kurt himself could teleport alone all day without tiring as long as he went for short, line-of-sight jaunts, but taking passengers makes the strain of teleportation exponentially worse. Kurt does not like pushing himself to teleport more than one person at a time, and three adults is his utter limit, after which he will be too nauseous and weak to fight (or do much else) for an hour or so.
In addition to the amount of mass he can move by BAMFing, Kurt is limited in direction and distance. His connection to the brimstone dimension and his ability to navigate it is somehow tied to magnetic fields, and so Kurt is constrained by the Earth's when he teleports, finding north-south jaunts much easier to accomplish than going east-west. He also has to fight against the spin of the Earth (so going East is harder than going West) and gravity, making jumping straight up the hardest direction of all. The magnetic ties also mean that someone who senses and manipulates magnetic fields with sufficient subtlety may be able to learn to sense Kurt's (albeit very subtle) disruption of them and adjust his trajectory mid-teleport. Without a passenger, two miles is Kurt's utter limit on distance. Add bodies to the equation and he loses distance very quickly. Kurt also prefers not to jump blind: although his mutation does supply him with a momentary and subconscious understanding of the area he's 'porting into, to prevent him from teleporting into a position where a part of his body is inside another object, Kurt is barely aware of this ability and it is not very reliable. Teleporting into a solid object is Kurt's greatest fear, and he utterly refuses to teleport to somewhere he can't see ninety-nine times out of a hundred as a result. Kurt's ability naturally displaces gasses and liquids to make room for his body but does not do the same with solids, instead steering him around them.

X-Man - Kurt has been at the school for almost two years and on the X-Men team for nearly as long. He has the much-coveted Danger Room access rights as a result.
|
Swashbuckling - Seriously, Kurt loves pirates. Not the real kind of pirate that kills people with machine guns off of the coast of Africa, but the romanticized version, with swords and dashing heroics. He loves the movies, he loves to playact pirate scenarios in the Danger Room. Arr, mateys, yer buckles'll be swashed!
|
German Gypsy - Although 'gypsy' is such a profane word, he prefers 'Roma'. Still, Kurt is a German by nationality and Roma by adopted heritage, and fully embraces both parts, happy to explain either culture to anyone who wants to learn.
