xxxxxTag is quick to smile and slow to offend, with an easy-going attitude that strikes some people as flippant. Compassion for those who suffer and passion for art motivates him. He strives to live in the moment, and sometimes takes significant risks on a whim.

xxxxxTag was born in Shanghai, the eldest child of working class Chinese parents. In his sixth year, Tag's family moved to New York City and opened a modestly successful bookstore in Chinatown. Though his parents took great pains to conceal it, Tag knew their relocation was funded by a Triad boss. To this day, however, he does not know what service they could have performed to gain the Triad's favor.
xxxxxHis younger brother and sister were born in the States, and he was very dedicated to mentoring them. He read voraciously and did well in school, but chafed at his parents' strict adherence to Chinese traditions and suppression of his artistic interest. A neighborhood Quan-Yin shrine served as his sanctuary, where he would seek solace in sketching and painting.
xxxxxHe received a scholarship to attend Columbia University and, in obedience to his parents, went pre-med. Upon graduating, he 'came out' to his family. When his parents reacted with disappointment, Tag's powers manifested: everything in contact with him turned stark, gleaming white. Fleeing his parents' home and abandoning plans for medical school, Tag trainhopped down the East Coast.
xxxxxHe befriended punks, anarchists, queers, and mutants of all stripes; he also learned to acquire various controlled substances on the street. After returning to New York, he took up residence in a communal house. He earns an unsteady income through a combination of his power and his art, and makes no real attempt to conceal his mutant status in the company of friends.
xxxxxThough estranged from his parents, he checks in with his siblings now and then. His sister had graduated from law school and his brother is pursuing an MBA, both under the auspices of the same boss who helped their family relocate, and who had once offered to pay Tag's way through medical school. Tag worries that they will be drawn into organized crime, but cannot persuade them to do without the Triad's assistance.

xxxxxTag can modify the surface pigmentation of a wide variety of materials. He calls this 'tagging', and employs it extensively in his street art. The pigment change is permanent, though superficial and thus easily effaced from most materials. His visual range extends into near-infrared and near-ultraviolet, as does his tagging ability, since he can replicate any color known to him. He can even cause a tag to fluoresce, but only for a short time. His control over the patterns created diminishes with distance. For detail work, he must touch the surface, although he does not need to physically trace the design. Tagging very large areas or very fine detail requires more time and concentration on his part.
