xxxxxBy day, Matt Murdock is a blind attorney who seems to specialize in representing the less fortunate, particularly those people who, either by their nature or by their lack of wealth, are ignored by other lawyers. So long as they are innocent. By night, the Daredevil keeps watch over the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York City, beating back injustice one thug at a time. There is only one other person on the planet who currently knows that these two men are one in the same, and priests never speak of confessionals to any other living souls.

xxxxxRaised by his washed-up boxer turned muscle for hire father Jack "The Devil" Murdock, Matthew Michael "Matt" Murdock experienced a lean childhood, sharing a one bedroom apartment with his dad in the somewhat notorious Hell's Kitchen neighborhood in New York City. At 12, Matt was exposed to a bad chemical spill that took his sight, but triggered his mutation. The rest of his senses became superhuman, and he also gained a kind of echolocation or radar sense that allowed him to "see" the world through sound waves.
xxxxxTurning his life around, Jack returned to the ring with great success. When he refused to throw a fight, though, he was killed, and Matt was left alone in the world. He spent the rest of his teenaged years in a Catholic orphanage, studying hard and learning martial arts (under the guise of protecting himself). Once out of high school, he went on to college and then law school, and founded the tiny law office of Nelson & Murdock with his best friend, Foggy Nelson. They specialize (much to Foggy's chagrin) in representing the needy: the poor, mutants, just about anybody that other lawyers consider to be untouchable. So long as they are innocent.
xxxxxAt night, Matt assumes the role of the Daredevil, a vigilante crime-fighter hell-bent on driving the corruption out of the neighborhood he calls home. One way or another, justice will be served.

Matt's mutation has manifested in two very distinct ways:
xxxxxThe first is that his senses have all become superhuman. He is capable of hearing a human heartbeat from 20 feet away, can pick up on scents about twice the distance of the average person, is able to detect even the subtlest of tastes, and enjoys a heightened sense of touch that also grants him a much greater balance and awareness of his surroundings, heightening his agility and giving him cat-like reflexes. If he had not gone blind in the accident, there's no telling what his vision would have been like.
xxxxxThese all have a downside, though. Loud or high-pitched sounds can be absolutely crippling to Matt, even the most pleasant smell can be utterly overwhelming if strong enough, and spicy food is usually too intense for his palate. He does not really go in for Indian food, alas.
xxxxxThe second is that he has gained a kind of echolocation or radar sense. Matt is able to visualize his surroundings based on sound waves bouncing off of objects around him. This gives him a picture of the world at any given time, depending on how much and the type of sound waves happening. There are limits to this sight: he can only make out shapes when decently strong sound waves occur (regular, repetitive sounds make it easier for him to "see"), a lot of different noises at once can create confusion for him, and he cannot "see" things like colors, printed words, or intricate details.

| Biggest client - Nelson & Murdock's biggest client is Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Occasionally, he might visit the school. And although they are free to seek out their own legal counsel, staff, faculty, and students of the school can all go to Matt for legal advice and/or representation free of charge.
