Introduction xxxxxStarting over in the land of the free. Or so they said. History xxxxxPedro was born to a villager on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands. His life was good, if simple. At the age of eight, he began to help his father climb trees and harvest bananas. And he would help his mother sell the bananas in the market, to tourists usually. Until he reached puberty, where his mutation began. As his appearance began to change drastically, the villagers became violent, worried that the young man would scare off tourists and thus their livelihoods. Despite his mother's protests, he left the village only a few steps ahead of the mob forming. The young man spent several years surviving on his own, sneaking back into town in the middle of the night to visit his mother. He was comforted by the fact that she adored him still, unlike his father, or the other villagers. He also found it ironic to learn that some tourists were now visiting the area in hopes of seeing the 'batboy'. From time to time he made a point of going through the market and making off with a farmer's bananas, or a tourist's wallet, to stir things up a little. Over time, his mother began to encourage him to leave the islands. Find somewhere he could live more freely, instead of hiding and only coming out at night. She worried that someone would go hunting Pedro, and end up killing him. Eventually he agreed, promising to return to bring her to his new home. His first attempt to sneak on board one of the big aircraft that land on the runways of the island's airport was unsuccessful. The second attempt injured him enough that he spent almost a year recovering, building up strength. For his third attempt, he used his aerokinesis power to carry him higher, where it was easier to intercept the aircraft. The journey across the Atlantic nearly finished him though, and it was a very weary mutant who slipped from the plane somewhere over New York State. Pedro did manage to find his way to New York City. Where he was constantly amazed by what lay beyond each corner. His first summer was almost heaven, though he had a more dim view of the merchants who sold their wares in the various farmer's markets. Leaving all that fruit out for other people to fondle, and they get mad at him for stealing the fruit that's almost beginning to spoil. He was doing them a favour. The first winter was almost his death, having never experienced such cold before, he was totally unprepared. Much of it spent being chased out of one attic or disused building after another. He first came to the attention of the Brotherhood of Mutants when he came to the assistance of a mutant being arrested by police. Pedro wasn't sure why the police wanted the mutant, but when the cops started beating the young woman, Pedro grew angry. He used his powers to knock the policemen over, and then decided to flip their car over for good measure. Now with their full attention, Pedro led them on a merry chase down back alleys, and through a couple of shops. He only just managed to escape them. The second time he witnessed the police getting carried away, he once more interceded on the mutant's behalf, not only knocking them down but using debris to keep them distracted while he and the other mutant escaped. Pedro soon found this to be an entertaining way to keep warm, and distracted from his difficulties, and carried on lending a hand where he could. Always being certain that there was a quick way out. Nearing the end of his first winter in New York City, he managed to find a safe place to roost, where he was not immediately chased out. He did not know that it was used by other mutants from time to time. Upon discovery, he was offered the safety of the Brotherhood, being recognized as someone actively working for the mutant cause. With his second winter away from his home fast approaching, he is better prepared for it, with a little help from his friends.. Powers xxxxxPedro is able to fly, has the ability to echolocate, and has aerokinesis: he's able to control and create wind from gentle breezes to galeforce winds. Skills xxxxxPedro's first language is Spanish, and he has also picked up English and French along the way. He's also a natural green thumb, he enjoys growing plants and can coax them to grow in places you might not expect. About half of his hidden stashes of plants are some kind of fruit. Pedro has also been learning and practising kick boxing. Given that his hands and wings are delicate, and complicated, his thinking is that it is better to use his feet to protect himself.
