Officially, Zarita is Caleswood's personal assistant. Unofficially, she's the Daedalus staff telepath. She's the odd one out among the three, female and significantly younger and from a background she doesn't like to talk about but that appears to be rather lower class. (They did some digging; apparently she was born in Spain, but spent some years off the radar.)

In addition to actually functioning as Caleswood's aide, Zarita provides mental shielding and communication services. While she lacks the brute power of some other telepaths, she has a knack for maintaining telepathic connections and routing signals through them and often operates as a sort of switchboard for Daedalus operations, linking important staff members to facilitate discreet communication. She's even able to maintain multiple simultaneous and independent channels, provided the total size of the network isn't too large.

A side effect of this service is telepathic security: while her communication channels aren't secure in the presence of a telepath, it's difficult to read a client's mind if she's sending a constant stream of nonsense at them. With practice one can learn to tune her out, making one's surface thoughts very difficult to read and more serious intrusion /very/ difficult to manage without alerting the watchful Operator.

In person, well, she's...enigmatic. In the flesh her manner is laconic and professional, speaking only when she needs to and vastly preferring business to small talk. Mind-to-mind, however, she is cheerful and talkative and almost always amused by /something./ It's clear she vastly prefers to communicate telepathically rather than verbally, but unfortunately her position requires her to keep abilities relatively quiet, something she's annoyed by but resigned to. And also apparently lots of people don't /like/ suddenly having a chittering, chattering not-quite-human voice in their heads?

Since arriving in New York she's apparently struck up a friendship with a friendly young courier, though in response to well-meaning inquiry from her employer she stated that their relationship is strictly platonic.
