Kaori Takahashi
Description

xxxxx Kaori is a tallish, young Japanese woman. She's about 5'6", maybe 120 lbs. Her hair is generally dyed some wild, neon Color Of The Week. Left alone, it would hang to her mid back, but it is often split into pigtails, twisted up, or set into various other wacky styles. She has a very athletic build, and looks to be built for martial arts or pro sports.

xxxxxOften, she is seen in tanktops, cargo pants and vans shoes. Typically her clothes are dark colors, perhaps to set off her bright hair choices.

Personality

xxxxx The best way to describe Kaori is 'happy go-lucky'. She is an optimist in every sense of the word. She's only recently put together that she's a mutant, but her ability has been benefitting her for years. She is happy, and positive, and peppy in every new endeavor, because she's the girl who can do anything!

History

xxxxxKaori has led something of a charmed life. Growing up as an X-Games athlete in Tokyo, she almost didn't notice when her ability first manifested. She just started nailing the tricks she had been trying so hard at. At age 16 she took the summer X-Games by storm, in both BMX and skateboard events. In the winter, her snowboard half-pipe performance was unbelievable. She never particularly excelled in racing events, which she was only able to explain to herself much later. But anything related to tricking was on lock for the girl.

xxxxxTwo years later, she finished school, and turned 18 the following September. Finally able to compete in the adult division of the X-Games, her success continued to soar. She was also recruited to Japan's winter Olympics team, which she shows up for when required, but they are very lenient with her time. She also juggles multiple sponsors, and rarely has to buy any of her own equipment, though her primary sponsor is RockstAr energy drinks. This is lucky, because she's hyper anyways, and really likes their drinks. She's basically their perfect spokesperson. She is also sponsored by Stark Enterprises for various pieces of equipment.

xxxxxNow, coming up on the ripe old age of twenty-two, Kaori is just living the life of a professional athlete who really doesn't have to show up very often, and doesn't need a regular job. She splits her time between coffee house hopping, clubbing, and sleeping in.

xxxxxShe's also recently taken up DJing and mixing. Partially she likes it because she can't just use her ability to learn it. She has to practice, and experiment, and perform to get feedback. This makes DJing a truly authentic experience for her, when most of her other endeavors kind of feel like cheating when she stops to think about it. On the club circuit, she's known as DJ Spinster, and has started getting some notice around New York.

Powers

xxxxxSkill Soak: Just by watching someone perform a physical activity, Kaori is able to instantly transfer the movement to herself as a form of muscle memory. If she continues to practice it over time, it can become a permanent memory, as if she had practiced it for years. However, she does have to keep up the practice for anything she wants to keep. Just like if Tiger Woods slacked off, he would get worse. Kaori just doesn't need all the practice on the front end for any given movement. Obviously, she can only use her power for any physically observable skill, possible for a normal human to perform. This wouldn't let her jump any farther than normal, and certainly doesn't make her strong enough to lift something too heavy for her, even if she sees the right form for lifting.

xxxxxSkill Transfer: This is a more recent discovery for Kaori. She has found when she concentrates, she can transfer her muscle memories to people watching her. Often this results in very minor compulsions in the observers to perform those movements, but it's not any kind of real mind control. Anyone can walk away if they don't want to do the dance, or other movement. Also, the transferred skills fade very quickly from memory, within minutes, and would only be useful as a teaching tool if observers were taking long classes from Kaori at regular intervals for the lessons to really take hold. However, Kaori has had great fun 'encouraging' different dance moves when she's DJing, or just clubbing. She's also had some success teaching extreme sports tricks, but if the students don't practice continually for the rest of the day, the memories fade too quickly to be useful.

xxxxxDrawback, 8-Track Mind: Because Kaori's body is constantly aware of everyone's movements around her, she is often distractible, and comes off as twitchy, hyper, or having ADD sometimes. Additionally, she can only hold a few new skills at a time in her body. Brand new things that she hasn't had a chance to practice will get shoved out when she learns new movements, and she picks up new stuff all the time, just because she sees something cool that grabs her attention.

xxxxxDrawback, Adrenaline Junky: Kaori feels a kind of compulsion when she absorbs something new and cool. If she watches a program about skydiving, she'll be on a plane the next day, diving head first out the door. If she watches a pickup game of Ultimate Frisbee in the park, she might drop her schedule for the day and ask to join in, playing until utterly exhausted. She's /addicted/ to learning new movements, and wants to use anything cool she picks up.
