Sometimes we all must do things we are not proud of.
Introduction xxxxxA troubled teen recently thrust into a completely new situation, in more ways than one, that she is trying to cope with. History xxxxxBorn at the turn of the century to a couple of immigrants in New York's China Town, Mai has never actually been to China, but still is quite well-versed in its culture and traditions taught by her parents. Her father had a small martial arts dojo, though still most of their income came from the restaurant her mother was working in. Her early life was fairly uneventful, though it did allow her to learn kung-fu from early age, and she also became quite decent cook herself without even specifically trying just by helping her mother every now and then, and of course made her learn to speak both chinese and english fluently. As she grew to her teen years, she started getting more influences of the western culture to her life as well, hanging out with friends both chinese and american alike in the city that never sleeps. Still the one thing she kept up with from her heritage was her training in martial arts, becoming adept at both hand to hand combat and the use of various melee weapons, swords, tonfas, and her favorite weapon of choice, the shortspear. Few months ago however, her life changed quite tragically, when while returning from grocery shopping with her parents, they were unfortunate enough to walk right into the middle of fight between anti-mutant extremists and the police. Presumably there had been mutants at the site originally too, but when her family walked there it was a shootout, her parents were hit by stray bullets, though through some miracle, as it seemed at the time, none hit her, despite standing right next to them when it happened, and after that took several moments just standing there in shock before she realized to cover. Afterwards, she was checked up by medical personnel and did not have a scracth on her, they thought she had just been ridiculously lucky to survive, though in truth, it was her mutant powers she did not know existed having awakened by the adrenaline, that had protected her with a telekinetic shield raised instinctively, deflecting the bullets away from her body. It took a few weeks after that before she actually came to realize she had these new powers, and since then, she has been exploring them and learning to use them in different ways, in much the same manner of how she practices her martial arts skills, in fact, she has somewhat merged the two, using telekinesis to enhance her martial arts moves. After reading from the news about the attack she was in and learning what the people behind it were representing, she has started to suspect (wrongly, but when are people rational in moments of tragedy?) that they were there specifically because of her and she was the target, which has made her to start to harbor growing distrust and hatred towards such groups, and even to lesser extent towards non-mutants in general. Young, confused, and angry, she is now living in a small cheap apartment, paying the rent with a part-time job at a convenience store, her future could lead to several directions, depending on what kind of company she will end up with. Powers xxxxxTelekinesis: She has the power to apply physical force with her thoughts, able to lift, push, pummel, and otherwise affect both people and objects from a distance. xxxxxFlight: She is capable of flying by simply lifting and moving herself with her telekinetic powers, and can make others fly in the same manner as well. xxxxxShield Projection: Another way she can apply her telekinesis is to form a barrier that pushes everything away from it, most often around herself, but with concentration she can form it a distance away, deflects attacks that rely on a kinetic force. Skills xxxxxShe is highly skilled in martial arts, both hand to hand and with associated melee weapons. She is also fairly decent cook, even though she doesn't really make a number out of it. She speaks both English and Chinese fluently. Connections Friends Anette - So beautiful wings, and cool person too! Fiona - Dragons! Also one of Mai's best friends. Marinov - A cat person, always friendly, also a friend of Paige. Paige - So nice to everyone, helps Mai all the time. Tag - An old family friend, gave Mai a job, so colorful now! Foes Shane - What must I do to make him see we are on the same side? Acquintances B - Shane's sister? Seemed nicer person than him, but rather prejudiced. Blink - Purple hair! Also said she can teleport, would love to see that. Desi - Could actually be a nice person, but prejudiced thanks to Shane. Dusk - A friend of Tag, seemed cool. Eric - Pretty hot, also a cop, but nobody is perfect! Flicker - Has metal tentacle for arm, how cool is that?! Also, seemed kind of shy? Heather - Really strange, and really fast. Can't quite figure this one out. Hive - Seemed okay. Melinda - Seemed like a really nice person, takes care of the poor. Sam - Really tall, does charity work, can respect that. Taylor - Creepy as hell, thats not really his fault though. Pretty bad start with him, hoping to fix that. Trivia Despite being fairly knowledgeable about chinese culture and history, she has actually never been there, having lived her whole life in New York. She is a huge fan of old Hong Kong martial arts movies. Likes drawing a lot, is decent at it though by no means professional level, hopes to some day be and get actual education and profession on the subject. Repressed Anger - Due to what happened to her parents, she is very hostile towards any openly anti-mutant organizations or people and could very well lash out against such if opportunity presents itself. Everyone needs a friend - Is very much lost and lonely and could use a friend she talk with openly.| Bookworm - Has a job at the Jin Hua Yuan Bookstore in Chinatown, and could well be found there if anyone feels like going to book shopping.
