Backstory:
AJ qas born to Erin Ferris (human) and Kiyoko Hayashi (mutant). Her first five years were marked by her mother's reclusiveness due to her visible physical mutations and suspicion/fear of her. Despite this, AJ was well-cared for abd loved by both of her parents.
On May 17th, 2014, Kiyoko went missing after she out to get a sick AJ some cough syrup. Her purse would be found a block away from their residence in Queens, Police investigating the case would mishandled evidence, fail to locate witnesses and brush off AJ's dad with statements indicating a heavy anti-mutant bias. The case would quickly go cold, leaving AJ with a single parent. The disappearance of her mother would leave AJ with a deep-rooted anger and anxiety. About her own possible future mutation Her father tried to continue giving her the life she deserved, but became extremely overprotective
AJ would spend most of her remaining childhood at her father's music shop, where she'd teach herself the guitar and piano, developing a mastery over the instruments. She would be popular among her peers at school due to heroutgoing and personable nature, but had only a couple of situational friends due to her father's restrictions on where she could go and for how long. This cultivated in hef entering middle school as a social parish with no friends to speak of.
On March 6th, 2019, AJ was dining in her school's cafeteria during lunch when her mutant powers activated, resulting in several students to recieve chemical burns and a third of the cafeteria to be destroyed. Police were called and, in a gross mishandling of the situation, arrested AJ. She was released to house arrest but hid in the basement away from her father in fear that she'd harm him. Despite the attempts of a lawyer to plead her case, AJ was convicted of six counts of assault with a deadly power and one count of private property damage. She was sentenced to one year in juvenile detention.
