"My common sense is tingling."
Introduction

xxxxxUncle Ben isn't dead. Peter's parents got divorce--not killed. And if you even *mention* radioactive spider bites, all you're going to get is a funny look followed by 'RADIATION DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY'.

xxxxxFor the most part, he's still the same kid. The only real difference is that tragedy doesn't define him: Rejection does. His parents couldn't be arsed with him; in school, he's been punished again and again for being absurdly smart--for standing out. The only people who even acknowledge he exists are his uncle and aunt--and as much as he loves them, they don't understand him. He's learned--time and time again--that being special is something you're supposed to hide.

xxxxxThen one day he woke up and found out he could punch through walls, leap across rooftops, and notice when a fly rubs its feet together on the other side of the room. Is it any wonder he's keeping it to himself?

History

xxxxx When Peter was six, his parents got a divorce. As part of the proceedings, they entrusted him to Aunt May and Uncle Ben (the latter being his father's brother) temporarily, until the process could be concluded.

xxxxxThat was 9 years ago. His parents haven't bothered with him since.

xxxxxSince then, he's lived in New York City--working during the day as a city courier and using his powers (which he's kept secret from everyone) during the night to perform amazing feats of acrobatics around the city--even videotaping the events and posting them online. He does this under strict secrecy, always wearing a red hoodie and red ski-mask when he goes out. Online, he's gained a bit of a following on the blogosphere and various youtube channels, where he's referred to as 'the New York Spiderman'.

xxxxxRecently, he's upgraded his nocturnal activities to acts of low-level vandalism and breaking-and-entering. He'll often take challenges posted online--places people say he can't possibly reach--and proceed to go there and leave his 'tag' (a spider) on the wall. He never steals anything, and never does any real harm--but police have probably started to take notice, and may be monitoring some of his online activities.

Powers

xxxxxPeter Parker has two powers: Muscle density and hyper-awareness.

xxxxx The former grants him strength roughly above that of a well-built man twice his size. He couldn't throw a car, but he could probably manage to lob a motorcycle. His strength is the source of his speed--he can (and does) leap incredible distances and move so fast he sometimes becomes a blur. His muscle mass also affords him a certain resilience to harm--he's a *lot* tougher than he looks, and can take a lot of punishment. But a bullet will still do to him what it would do to anyone else.

xxxxxThe latter is a bit more complex; Peter has ADHD[1] on steroids. The part of his brain that lets him ignore things is absent--which means Peter operates on a 24/7 information overload. His brain has to run a mile a minute just to keep up! This makes him incredibly twitchy, easily distracted, and a pain for telepaths (one of whom compared reading his mind to watching 8 TV channels--all in different languages--simultaneously).

xxxxxThe upside is that he's an effortless multi-tasker, intuitively brilliant, possesses an extraordinary sense of proprioception[2], and has a constant 'vibe' for what's going on around him (basically, 'spider-sense'). He can extend this awareness farther when he concentrates--letting him 'pick up' hot spots around the city (places where violence is happening--or is about to happen). It also confers near-perfect muscle-memory and motor skills--Peter can learn in minutes what acrobats and stage-magicians require years to master.

xxxxxIronically, the more stimulation Peter receives, the less 'twitchy' he becomes--because his brain actually has something to do with all its processing power. This means that in intense situations--such as combat--he becomes level-headed and calm; in safe situations, he becomes twitchy and easily frightened.

Connections

Probably Superheroes!

  • Melinda - Sound advice concerning the inherent danger of bullets! Also, she sounds like she might be some sort of medic. Definite superhero potential!
  • Micah - HE IS TO PETER AS LUCIUS FOX IS TO BATMAN. Also, MIGHT be a cyborg.
  • Spencer - He builds a pretty mean TARDIS fort, which is pretty superheroic. Also, pretty much the first person Peter met who can out-hyper him.
  • Doug - He called his online antics 'stupid' but Peter forgives him because he's hax0ring his phone. Also who the hell puts EGGPLANT on their pizza?
  • Shelby - She gave back his phone, and also can make her tattoos move all pretty like--clearly superhero material.
  • Eric - Cop! Being a cop is like being a superhero, right? Seems like a nice person! Peter is *so* going to make up running off on him.
  • Tag - ohmygod he does graffiti too! Except much better than Peter's! And he said Peter was awesome! And he says he's not a superhero but PETER SUSPECTS HE MIGHT BE ONE ANYWAY.
  • Shane - OHMYGODWHYDOYOUHAVESOMANYSHARPTEETH
  • Sebastian - OHGODTHERESTWOOFYOU
  • Jackson - Bright! Shiny! Plus, he saved the mayor! The closest thing to an actual superhero Peter's met so far!
  • Alison - He doesn't think she has any powers, but she's kind of a journalist? That's a kind of superhero, right? Also, she was in a lot of movies Peter watches with Uncle Ben (for TERRIBAD movie night). Interested in the Spiderman!
  • Tatters - Totally a superhero. Also, entry in the Monstrous Manual.
  • Hive - WARNING: DO NOT THINK ABOUT NAKED PEOPLE AROUND THIS PERSON. He *will* know. Also, probably a superhero. Did Peter a solid by not ruining his internet fame!
  • Uncle Ben - Peter and Uncle Ben have a hard time relating (Uncle Ben is a pretty blue-collar, salt-of-the-earth type, and Peter is basically *ultranerd*), and they often get into verbal tussles--but Peter secretly looks up to him more than anyone else in the world.

Probably Not!

  • Jonah Jameson - Editor/owner of the Daily Bugle. Published articles about Spiderman being a 'menace' and encouraging juvenile deliquency. STUPID JERKFACE WITH HITLER-STACHE.

And everything in between

  • Richard Parker - Peter's estranged father. Works in the city. Doesn't really seem to care much about his son. Peter's not sure how to parse him.

Species Mutant
Affiliation Citizen
Alignment Neutral Good
Powers Awareness, Strength
Occupation Courier/Student
RP Hooks
Nocturnal Activities - At night, Peter is living a double-life as the 'internet hero', Spiderman. He regularly records himself doing crazy feats of agility and accepts challenges to break into places and leave his tag (a spraypainted spider). This is likely to draw all sorts of attention--both legal *and* illegal.
Daddy Issues - Peter wants a relationship with his father; he can't have that, so he's dedicated himself to finding out what his father *does*. Turns out his dad might work for Prometheus. Peter's decided to break in and find out more--this probably won't end well.
Surrogate Mentor - Peter will take any approval from anyone; he's desperate for it, and will probably end up letting himself be led (either astray or otherwise) by someone who knows how to give him the sort of acknowledgement he needs.
Science Whiz - Peter's inherited his father's genius re: Science; his intelligence is often underestimated. When he applies it, he can figure things out very quickly. One of the hooks I'd like for him: Finding/modifying technology that leads to the webslinger and the ability to cling to walls.
Familiar Faces - I'd *love* for some characters from Peter Parker's storylines--particularly villains--to show up. I'm particularly interested in Norman Osborn having something to do with Project Prometheus--and Peter's father.
