Introduction
|
xxxxxDescription: Lia is small girl, almost childlike, with a slight frame that stands a mere five feet two inches in height--and that only when her dancer's posture holds her spine fully erect. She was destined to be a slip of a thing even before the near-malnourishment of her formative years. Her large brown eyes are set wide, their distant and often haunted gaze jarring in her thin child's face, lending her the air of a prey animal. Her hair typically falls loose and unkempt past her shoulders in deep ash-brown waves. A stranger to the sun for her many years of captivity, her skin is the pale porcelain of a Victorian doll, right down to the tracery of scars that spiderwebs across much of her body like cracks.
xxxxxPersonality: Eight years in the gentle care of Project Prometheus will take their toll. Lia's behaviour is erratic and more appropriate for a child than a young woman of seventeen. Having suffered significant and prolonged psychological trauma, she presents with identity and memory deficits, often confusing her own history with stories from books or ballets. While typically shy, skittish, and obedient, she is prone to unpredictable outbursts and changes in demeanour. She can be mulishly stubborn when she sets her mind to it, even succumbing to violent tantrums at times. When given the opportunity, she is playful, imaginative, and bears a child's capacity for delight and wonder. Lia is found in the near-constant company of Coppélia, an old-fashioned look-alike doll that was created in the image of Lia at the age of six. The doll is the one possession that she retains from her past, allowed primarily for the purpose of calming her without the need for sedatives or other more troublesome interventions.

History
|
xxxxxBackground: Lia was the perfect daughter expected of a wealthy gated-community family: bright, polite, and excelling both at an expensive private elementary school and lessons with tutors in French, piano, and ballet. Her life centred primarily around her three obsessions: books, dance, and an eclectic collection of dolls. Just before her eighth birthday, she began to present with unprovoked catatonic episodes of increasing frequency. Lia was paraded through an endless series of clinics and hospitals with the sort of access that only substantial wealth can obtain, yet none of these were able to so much as diagnose a clear underlying psychiatric or neurological condition responsible for the episodes.
xxxxxDesperate for treatment by any means possible, Lia's parents finally admitted her to an unorthodox residential psychiatric facility that demanded extended isolation of the patient from the outside world. When Lia's mutant status was discovered, rather than sharing this information with her family, she was pushed into the custody of Project Prometheus for the exciting opportunity to study the manifestation and development of mutant abilities longitudinally. Lia's parents' concerns about their daughter were eased with false reports, claims that visitors would upset her condition, and general medical-legal trickery until such time as inquiries dwindled to mere habitual pretense.
xxxxxLia remained in Prometheus custody for nearly eight years with her mutant abilities under intense scrutiny and testing all the while. Her actual abilities did not manifest until after she was taken. She transferred facilities and handlers several times as different specialists were thought best to manage the particular stages of her development, but she had no contact with the world outside of the Project since her admission. Lia was freed from a Prometheus facility in Virginia during the October 2013 raid.
xxxxxSkills (Prior to Xavier's): Lia's practical skills are extremely limited. She has the formal education of a precocious third grader, but no more. She is conversant in French only from lessons in early childhood. Similarly, she plays piano passably well for one trained through the age of eight but has since had minimal access to such instruments. Lia's knowledge of dance is extensive and she is capable of reciting and reenacting plots from a vast array of ballets. Her own skill in dance is surprisingly well-developed from having started lessons at an early age--then being provided additional training by one of her Prometheus handlers as an experiment in how motor learning translated through her mutant ability. Lia was a voracious reader prior to her captivity and continues to read whatever books she is allowed, such items being her rewards of choice for 'good behaviour'. She demonstrates particular deficits in scientific and mathematical knowledge, and her understanding of technology is notably near to a decade out of date. Most of the training and education that Lia has received in her life has been directly related to her mutant abilities, which are extremely refined. Lia's new skill sets since enrolling at Xavier's come mostly from the many classes and extracurriculars with which she has been involved since that time, as well as a lot of one-on-one attention from a school psychologist.

Telekinetic Doll Animation/“Puppetry” and Doll Possession
xxxxxDolls: Dolls are defined, for the purpose of Lia's abilities, as non-sentient three-dimensional humanoid representations that are within normal limits for human proportions and that possess the basic configuration of head, torso, arms, and legs designed for bipedal locomotion. She requires a body shape in her Dolls that she is capable of controlling with her own sensorimotor map. For example, she could control a winged gargoyle statue fitting the above qualifiers, but could not operate its wings in any fashion, nor fly. Types of Dolls include, but are not limited to: toys (toy soldiers, action figures, plushes, dolls, etc.), figurines, mannequins, statues, anatomical models, skeletons, and corpses. She is /not/ able to affect living humans or mutants with her abilities, much to the disappointment of Project Prometheus.
xxxxxTelekinetic Doll Animation/“Puppetry”: Lia is capable of controlling Dolls in a telekinetic manner, given complete concentration and direct line of sight with the Doll(s) in question.
- Size Limitations: Small Dolls such as toy soldiers and action figures require simple concentration, larger Dolls such as those typically given to young girls would take complete concentration, and life-sized Dolls or mannequins would take extreme concentration and exercising of willpower.
- Multiple Target Limitations: While she is capable of controlling more than one Doll at a time, this is only possible for small Dolls and mostly limited to performing actions in concert (for example, a handful toy soldiers could march in formation rather simply but she would experience extreme difficulty or failure in making two of the soldiers 'attack' one another). The greater the number she attempts to control at once, the more difficult this becomes.
xxxxxDoll Possession: Lia can project her consciousness into a Doll, for all intents and purposes possessing the Doll. She is capable of hearing and seeing through the Doll, moving the Doll as if it were a human being, and speaking through the Doll (though this is always with her own voice).
- Transference of Consciousness: To transfer her consciousness to a Doll she has not possessed before, Lia must have direct line of sight with the Doll. This works easiest if she has eye contact with the Doll. Once possessing a Doll, she is able to transfer to a new Doll by line of sight in the same way that she could in person. For known Dolls that she has possessed in the past, she is capable of returning her consciousness to that Doll provided she knows its physical location, even without line of sight.
- Catatonia: While Lia is possessing a Doll, her own body enters a catatonic state presenting as catalepsy with waxy flexibility, non-responsiveness, mutism, and slowing of autonomic functions. She is only aware of her own body and its circumstances if she concentrates on this deliberately and is quite vulnerable in this state. Due to psychological trauma suffered while in captivity with Prometheus, she will sometimes respond to extreme stress by entering a catatonic state without her consciousness leaving her body.
- Size Limitations: Dolls of her own size or smaller are simple to control. As they grow larger, this becomes more taxing for Lia. She is unable to animate objects that fall outside of the norms for human proportions or that are larger than the norms for human size.
- Mobility Limitations: Small or light Dolls are capable of moving swiftly and with great dexterity. Larger or heavier Dolls may prove slower and more ponderous in their movements.
- Material Limitations: The Dolls remain constructed of whatever materials from which they had been made and can be damaged or destroyed accordingly. If a possessed Doll is destroyed, Lia's consciousness returns automatically to her own body.
- Multiple Target Limitations: Lia can only possess one Doll at a time.
- Distance Limitations: Lia has yet to discover any limitations on the distance over which she can control a Doll through possession.

Help
- Teddy: Used to be in a room. Very soft. Fuzzy. Pettable. Promised to keep safe. Changes colours. Came to school.
- Dragon-Prince Jeremy: Used to be in a room with me. Strings are
tangled cut. Mouth shut! Teaches hand-talking. Came to school.
- Ventriloquist: Mind-talker. Promised to play.
- Duskwings: Has stars. His sky is soft, and is. Will help keep the sky and happy thoughts. Talks same hand-talking.
- Mr. Fairyjax: All of the light and the fairy dust and the map to Neverland. Maybe help to fly and have happy thoughts. Finds me classes and dancing.
- Rainbowman: Name is a thing and a verb. I think he knows the Man in the Moon.
- Dirtboy: He knows all the dirt smells. Makes food from the ground, but not a farmer. Used to be in a room. Dirt is good.
- Puppeteer: Was in a room. Moves things. /Dances/ things! Came to school.
- Onefish: Also Bluefish. So very blue. Knows about school.
- Twofish: Also also Bluefish. Maybe they did not read the book. They are not doing it right. Pretty clothes. Pretty robots. Pretty pretty. Thinks that I am helpful.
- Manyarms (Taylor): I am not sure if I am supposed to shake. Shake and say hello.
- Flowerboy-Kellygreen: Has plants that move with him. Promised not to pick me up, even if I am a monkey. Talks to Jeremy. Bleeds green--blood, not sap. Friend?
- Princess Ducky: Has birdtalk powers. Sometimes she is a bad statue and it startles the birds. Her friends are pretty, but do not help her with chores or baking.
- Mr. Shinyman: Is an official teacher. Of art things. Lets me play with clay. Shiny.
- Ms. Israstars: Has things for looking at the stars. If you're good. And wings like Duskwings.
- Robot Teacher: Taught me computers for things other than panda videos. Jeremy says that she is a Secret Robot.
- Nom: Laissez les bons temps rouler.
- Chameleon: A student. And an actor. And a boy. Sometimes a chameleon. He turned me into a book! And thinks I would be a good faery.
- Ghostjack: Not actually dead, just invisible. He should have all the food and try all the new things.
- Kaine: Swims very fast. Likes cold. Wants to be full of holes that /aren't/ for shiny, which seems odd.
- Lost-Boy: Makes an invisible and a teleporting and knows about trees and foxes. Still stays at the school even though he graduated...Lost Boys get to stay in Neverland, I think.
Harm
Exist
- Fireman: Very scary for a 'friend'. Smile is not smiley. Smells like fire. Was in a room.
- Magician: It is no longer a room. Don't touch!
- Shadowgirl: Roommate? Likes to scare people. Picks me up when I am little, even if I do not want her to. Does not like light.
- Movie Villain: Maybe a Bad Guy? Maybe a student? Confusing. Shane is also confused with this one, I think.

Lab Rat - Lia was well-known around Prometheus as a long-termer. Her tenure was nearly 8 years and she had been passed along through a number of their facilities. She was freed from a facility in Virginia during the October 2013 raid.
|
Dolled Up - Lia has a Thing for dolls. She is rarely seen outside the company of her doll, Coppélia, who looks like a miniature version of Lia at age six. Lia may also show up wearing any manner of Doll in place of her own body.
|
Dance - Lia is obsessed with dance, particularly ballet.
|
Storytime - Lia is in love with stories and is an avid reader, though she sometimes confuses her own background with plots from works of fiction.
|
Not the Doctor - Lia has a love-hate relationship with doctors. They have been her primary caretakers for half of her life, but also a source of much suffering. She is never quite certain whether they are going to help her or hurt her.
|
New Kid in School - Lia started up at Xavier's in November 2013, during the zombie apocalypse. It isn't so much that Lia is new to school as that...school is new to her. She hasn't had a formal education since completing the second grade. There is much overwhelming and confusion associated with this for her.
