Introduction xxxxxAn old soldier-turned-spy who's probably sick of this bullshit. Description xxxxxA grizzled Black man with a cleanly shaven head, Fury is tall and broad, exceptionally fit for his age, and usually read as 10 years younger than he is. He sports a neatly trimmed Van Dyke beard, wiry black hairs shot through with steely gray. Among his many scars, the most prominent are three parallel lines (like a scratch from an animal's claws) across the left side of his face, extending from his forehead to his cheek across his eye, which the injury left clouded and sightless. He usually wears an eye-patch over his left eye and his outfits are, famously among those who know him, almost invariably all black. Reputation xxxxxFamous/infamous in the US and international intelligence community as a maverick bent on shaking up decades-old approaches, his particular focus on unconventional existential threats considered quixotic if not outright damaging right up until the Liberty Island Incident. As Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. he has a reputation for being an intimidating and mysterious hardass. He expects a lot of out of his people but also goes the extra mile for them, and seems to know every agent by name. Wild rumors abound about how he lost his eye, and to those who work up the courage to ask him directly he always replies that it's "classified." History xxxxxProbably was not born a superspy, but even those closest to him at S.H.I.E.L.D. know very little about his early life save that he's from Huntsville, Alabama and his father had also been an Army man. He enlisted in the US Army at age 17 and left it decades later as a Colonel when he was recruited to the CIA, then somehow made the jump to the intelligence arm of the UN Peacekeepers before he created S.H.I.E.L.D. from a combination of hand-picked agents and miscellaneous civilian personnel leftover from the now-defunct US Army Strategic Scientific Reserve. He doesn't show any signs of slowing down. Skills xxxxxFury began his military career as an infantryman and never allowed his marksmanship to lapse even after retiring from field work, able to reliable handle most small arms to reasonable effect. He is a master tactician and strategist who excels at lateral thinking in a variety of situations. xxxxxThough well-versed in field intelligence and surveillance techniques as well as some limited areas of electronic security, his real strength in the field of espionage is managing people. Decades of experience navigating frequently hostile military and bureaucratic hierarchies have made him an expert social engineer. xxxxxHe is fluent in English, French, and Spanish, conversant in Russian, Arabic, and Portuguese, speaks basic but serviceable German, Mandarin and Cantonese (with a sometimes hilarious tendency to transpose words between the last two), and is learning Xhosa and ASL. He is qualified to pilot fixed-wing aircraft as well as helicopters. He's a decent fisherman and plays a mean game of poker.
