Night gathers, and now my watch begins.
Introduction xxxxxBoyish and bright-smiled and winged, but the sharp-clawed bat-wings and wickedly fanged smile put few people in mind of an angel. Dusk tends to live his life with a fierce passion. It's -- hit or miss how much that passion is tempered with any kind of good judgment to guide it, though. Description xxxxxDusk is a skinnynerd conglomeration of sharp angles and gangly limbs. His lanky-lean build conspires to make his 5'10" look taller than it actually is, longboned limbs and sinewy muscle. His usual pallor is only accentuated by the darkness that surrounds it, a mop of messily curling waves framing his angular face; his jaw is often shadowed too by a dark scruff of beard. His eyes are large, dark as well and given to a reflective shine in low lights. Behind his thin lips, wickedly sharp elongated canines are prominently noticeable, longer in the upper set but no less sharp below. Most notable of all are his wings, enormous and wide and dark as well, ribbed with long fingerbones and tipped with talons at their points; they call to mind a bat in their membranous fuzzy-soft flexibility. Reputation xxxxxDusk is a well-known face around New York mutant community; not in the fame sense but in the "probably a friend of a friend" sense, extroverted to the core and kind of a ho; for anyone active in mutant circles in the city, likely even if they do not know him they know plenty of people who do. Known to be a giant nerd, extremely friendly, invaluable help if your computer is broken, and probably dtf. xxxxxIn the Brotherhood, an extremely competent hacker who is usually more use behind the keyboard than on mission front lines despite being well known to be staggeringly strong. Together with B Helps a lot with intel-gathering during mission planning. xxxxxIn Prometheus community, anyone who came out of the lab raids definitely knows him -- he makes sure to touch base with every Promethean they have ever rescued and does his best to keep in touch with any and all the ones who are willing to keep in touch with him -- after having several people re-disappeared after being rescued, he is determined not to let others slip through the cracks. History xxxxxOnce, was not a vampire. Now, is a vampire. Powers xxxxxVampire bat. Skills xxxxxDusk's skillbase is largely nerd-oriented. He is cutthroat in board games, has large amounts of minutiae of various roleplay systems practically memorized (though he likes Shadowrun the best) and a fantastically impressive M:tG collection. He's excellent with computers; a freelance webdev by profession and with a keen interest in security by hobby. xxxxxHe's pretty good on a skateboard and can fix his own bike, though homelessness --> Prometheus --> NYC (and a set of wings that can shuttle him around pretty quick) means he's never actually learned to drive. He's fluent in ASL and Spanish and passingly familiar with Thai and Vietnamese. He's also fantastic with a sewing machine; nearly a decade of having to tailor his own clothes to allow for giant wings meant this started out as simply a necessary skill to learn but has evolved into an enjoyable hobby. xxxxxTime spent in Prometheus (and later on the Prometheus raid team and in the Brotherhood) has left him very practiced in combat. Living with (and training with) a pair of telepaths means he has many years of practice guarding his mind from psi-folk, though he has no greater than usual resistance to psionic manipulation or probing from anything more than passing scans. Connections Brothers Akihiro - He didn't have a word for "home", but he knew it was something to be defended. B - In the aftermath of war, when the slaying is long done, the greatest miseries come home to roost. Carnage - Because I am incapable of tears does not mean I have no need to shed them. Erik - I will not live as a slave. If you would be free, then fight alongside me. Heather - Either I know just the spell I need, or I'm about to. Ion - I don’t know why people say a double-edged sword is bad. It’s a sword. With two edges. Isra - When emotions rain down, what rivers will be born? Leo - There are many kinds of duty, and mine is to see our world grow and endure. Regan - Reality has exiled me. I am no longer bound by its laws. Scramble - Her voice is the wilderness, savage and pure. Clan Dawson - Wrath is no vice when inflicted upon the deserving. DJ - No rest. No mercy. No matter what. Hive - I know this world, from canopy to roots. Ian - Everything comes with a price. Especially revolution. Jax - Each year that passes rings you inwardly with memory and might. Wield your heart, and the world will tremble. Joshua - I've heard it said that a Planeswalker is someone who can always run from danger. But Gideon's right: we're also the ones who can choose to stay. Kitty - Our people are torn by infighting. Until the two sides reconcile, our laws can carry no meaning. Matt - Behold, blessed perfection. Ryan - Its mood changes with the weather, and vice versa. Skye - The things I once imagined would be my greatest achievements were only the first steps toward a future I can only begin to fathom. Shane - My family protects all families. Spencer - When your pack is nowhere to be found, you form a new one. Steve - Honor, guide my step. Herd Lily - The smallest seed of regret can bloom into redemption. Lucien - If I wanted your opinion, I would have told you what it was. Mirror - Try to pretend like you understand what's important. Foes Malthus - By the time your knees have worn through your robe, you may have begun to learn your place. Trivia Perfectly happy to be called by his legal name (Ryan), but at this point in his life very few people in mutant circles habitually call him that; he got the nickname Dusk as a joke shortly after getting out of the labs specifically because people in Prometheus circles were tired of having to clarify Which Ryan they were talking about. The louder and more flamboyant Ryan won Ryan Primacy in their friend group and Dusk's nickname stuck. Not a Certified Interpreter but an extremely competent one, frequently offers ASL interpreting services for mutant-specific events, due to the scarcity of available interpreters in the city willing to work at them. Was the only hearing member of his immediate family; both parents and both his younger and older siblings are all Deaf. ASL is his native language; he didn't actually even learn to speak (orally) until after starting elementary school. Has a Youtube channel where he performs songs in ASL. It's not exactly a secret in that, you know, it's videos of him on the internet, but he does not generally actually tell anyone he knows in person of its existence. Is a very active Ingress agent on the side of the Resistance. (Agent name: DarkwingDusk) Is Puerto Rican on his mother's side of the family and has a huge amount of extended family in the Nuyorican community in the area, though he's on complicated terms with many of them on account of Vampire.
